Plotting a story.  The members gather to plot a story.  (Exercise)

Welcome to Writing Basics Second night.  Tonight we will take the beginning and ending of a story and plot the middle.

Chersquaw: Takes loads of work to put one of these puppy's out!

Chersquaw: Okay, tonight we will be plotting a story.....

Witch Itah: But first....

Witch Itah: We wanted to take a moment to talk about some things we've

Witch Itah: been discussing. :)

Witch Itah: Vic and I, as you know, are involved in a lot with the main group,

Witch Itah: the newsletter, the website, and the magazine.

Witch Itah: We really enjoy doing the Monday night exercises, but

Witch Itah: time wise, they've gotten harder and harder to sustain.

Witch Itah: :(

Elaine369: :?(

Witch Itah: We were hoping that some of our regular members would want to

Witch Itah: pitch in, and perhaps consider taking the group and running with

Witch Itah: it, and turning it into a full-blown subsidiary of the Wednesday

Witch Itah: night session.

Witch Itah: We'd still attend when possible, of course, but we'd like to see

Witch Itah: if some of you might be interested in the challenge of running the

Witch Itah: group as its co-moderators...

Witch Itah: :)

Witch Itah: On the Monday night session that is. :)

Chersquaw: Every other Monday.

LMBRUN5: I'd like to help, but I would be at a loss as to how to do this.

Chersquaw: And we will them work out the middle together.

Chersquaw: that's the plotting Elaine, nothing else you need to know.  Just input.  :)

Chersquaw: Okay The Beginning......

Chersquaw: Sarah, a girl of about 10 years old is playing in the woods behind

Chersquaw: her parents home.......

Chersquaw: She happens upon a hidden cave and peers in.

Chersquaw: It is dark and musty but something makes her enter.

Chersquaw: Ending......

Chersquaw: Sarah runs into her worried, but relieve parents arms.

Chersquaw: That's it.

Chersquaw: we have some work to do here gang.  Let's do it.

Chersquaw: Anyone have anything to start with?

Elaine369: Is there a special order to reply?

LMBRUN5: Sarah peers into the cave and sees a sparkling light at the far end

Chersquaw: Protocol Witch?

Chersquaw: I'd rather not.

Jdfogg: Sarah gets lost in the cave

Sarrii: and the sweet scent of lilac

Witch Itah: I wouldn't say. :)  Everybody here knows how to be polite. :D

Witch Itah: We do protocol all the time in the main group. :) Time for a break.

Chersquaw: Okay, Elaine, just jump in and add.  :)

Chersquaw: What is the light?

ESP Sue Z: Fairy light

LMBRUN5: Another cavern, with lanterns

LMBRUN5: I like fairy light

Elaine369: She hears the russle of the bats, as she desends

Chersquaw: She jumps!

ESP Sue Z: Yes, jumps (too high to go back same way)

Chersquaw: The fairy light?  What are they doing there?

Sarrii: as she feels the wing of the bat brush against her

LMBRUN5: and falls down an incline, her head hitting a rock

Chersquaw: But not knocking her out, or yes?

LMBRUN5: no, just dazed.  Fairies to the rescue

Sarrii: standing around her, giggling

Chersquaw: What is her reaction?

Gailsong: As she falls she feels her body being transported

Chersquaw: Does she believe what she is seeing?

Chersquaw: Or feeling?

Elaine369: Stunned she wonders what is funny.

Chersquaw: Does she think she is dreaming?

ESP Sue Z: She thinks she's imagining this (has a vivid imagination - or so people say)

Chersquaw: I like that Z, my mom always said that of me.  :)

ESP Sue Z: Sometimes adults try to "stifle" imaginations!

Xaneli: She begins to focus in on the fairies curiously.

Elaine369: So true X !

Chersquaw: are they all the same X?

Chersquaw: Or are they different?

Xaneli: very different with different personalities

ESP Sue Z: Even if imaginary, she's interested (not sure at this point)

Chersquaw: Are they talking, or just giggling?

LMBRUN5: Right now they are giggling, at least until the horn sounds.

Sarrii: she overhears one of the fairies, "Look its a real human with bows in her hair and everythin

Chersquaw: As they decsend down the cavern what is happening?

Sarrii: oops thing.

ESP Sue Z: Horn?

Chersquaw: The horn?

LMBRUN5: Then they line up and wait quietly

Chersquaw: What has caused the horn?

ESP Sue Z: Who's coming?

LMBRUN5: As tiny horses bearing a golden carraige approach

Chersquaw: Tiny?  As in smaller than her, or her size?

Gailsong: the tiny fairies bow in awe

Elaine369: They are just happy and playful beings

LMBRUN5: Smaller than her, bigger than the fairies.

Chersquaw: Okay, so who is in the carriage?

ESP Sue Z: So what's to be scared of?  Don't we need something other than sweet & light?

Xaneli: The little girl watches anxiously, unsure of what to expect.

Chersquaw: The Warlock behind thhe cavern wall.

Elaine369: He's been upset with the faries lately

Elaine369: oops fairies

ESP Sue Z: Are the fairies afraid of the Warlock, too? Maybe a "human" can help them.

Jdfogg: And sent trolls to chase them out of the cave.

LMBRUN5: All that carrying on with those horns has been upsetting his spells.

Chersquaw: How about that awful boy down the street who use to chase her and pull her hair?

Chersquaw: Didn't he dissapear some time back?

Jdfogg: The warlock changed him into a troll

Xaneli: He realizes there is a prize present - a human child.

Elaine369: Sarah sees his friendship braclet and calls to him

ESP Sue Z: & a cute one -- uh oh, a pedophile

Chersquaw: Does he answer?  But who is this coming down the cavern hall?

Chersquaw: He is dressed in back and with a hood covering his face she can not

Chersquaw: see who it is.

Jdfogg: The fairy welcome wagon?

Witch Itah: :)

Chersquaw: :)

ESP Sue Z: Can't be the warlock yet - she's not at all prepared to defeat him

ESP Sue Z: Maybe a messenger...a spy from Warlock

LMBRUN5: But the queen fairy has a few gifts in mind

Jdfogg: Has to change the troll boy back with the help of the fairies

Xaneli: (unless the fairies are actually protecting her from him)

Chersquaw: But  Sarah senses the figure is not a danger.

Chersquaw: the faries step back as he approaches.

ESP Sue Z: Fairies can't defeat Warlock alone - that's why they need Sarah.

Elaine369: "Where are we going," she said, excited about the adventure.

Chersquaw: (We will need a sense of danger here gang.  What will it be?)

LMBRUN5: The troll

Elaine369: Tug of war over the boy?

ESP Sue Z: The dark figure gives orders from Warlock - obey or else...

Jdfogg: The boy is a troll, they have to change him back so he can help defeat the warlock

Chersquaw: And what do the warlock and the troll need with the boy?

Elaine369: ONly one troll?

Jdfogg: No, and army of trolls

Xaneli: The warlock becomes more powerful with each child he changes

Xaneli: to trolls

Jdfogg: But they are all children turned into trolls by the warlock

LMBRUN5: good one X

Chersquaw: Yes X, good one. :)

Elaine369: Feeds his ego too

ESP Sue Z: He's the link between the "otherworld" & human world - the "power chain"

Elaine369: So why did the fairies take Sarah?

Xaneli: to protect her from the warlock

Jdfogg: To protect her, keep her fromgetting turned into a troll

LMBRUN5: Sarah is really a changeling

Xaneli: The more innocent children there are the more power for the fairies

Chersquaw: Maybe the faries need a female to counteract the power?  Break the spell?

ESP Sue Z: They got her first - she can help them, too (by putting herself in danger, of course)

ESP Sue Z: She has to learn to BELIEVE in her own power (timid before)

Xaneli: Sarah is also a special child.

Chersquaw: Yes, and her imagination, because she has gotten to the point where

Xaneli: The fairies knew this and this is why she was allowed to see the

Witch Itah: (Goodnight all!  Enjoyed it.  My hubby's having angioplasty tomorrow, so

Xaneli: light.

Chersquaw: she has been told so many times that she has such a vivid one that she

Elaine369: Sarah reaches out to touch  the boy

Chersquaw: believes nothing?

Xaneli: Bye Witch.

Witch Itah: we have to get up at 5 am... so I'm leaving.  :)  Huggs!)

LMBRUN5: Good wishes Witch

ESP Sue Z: If she stands up to Warlock w/o fear, he can't harm her, but she doesn't know that.

ESP Sue Z: (Been there twice - it's not as bad as the anxiety)

Chersquaw: I just sent her all your good wishes.

Elaine369: ..........Sarah reaches out to touch  the boy

Chersquaw: and he is translucent.

Chersquaw: there but not there.

Xaneli: She pulls her hand away in disbelief.

ESP Sue Z: He pulls back - if she touches him, she'll know too much

ESP Sue Z: then she'd know the danger is not "real"

Chersquaw: The warlock is still controlling the boy.

Chersquaw: He is not working from his own free will.

Chersquaw: She reaches to touch him again, when he begins to cry from

Chersquaw: frustration.

Elaine369: Yet he yearns for friendship again

Xaneli: She sees his eyes bearing no color and is frightened yet sad.

ESP Sue Z: ALMOST controlling him - he has a vague memory of her/

LMBRUN5: The fairies bring Sarah a chest from the golden coach

LMBRUN5: In this chest is a ring

Elaine369: (The Queen's coach?)

LMBRUN5: Yes

Xaneli: This ring contains the power and knowledge to defeat the warlock.

Elaine369: Sarah remembers seeing this ring once before

Elaine369: in a dream

ESP Sue Z: (premature-but at the end when her parents think she was dreaming, she's still wearing the

Chersquaw: The boy does too.

ESP Sue Z: Ring...

Chersquaw: They look at the golden ring, Sarah wanting to touch it.

Xaneli: Sarah doesn't understand what she is to do with the ring.

LMBRUN5: Yes, beginning to shape up here.

Elaine369: In the dream they were together

Chersquaw: The dark figure comes nearer.

Xaneli: (is the dark figure the boy/troll?)

ESP Sue Z: He wants the ring, too.

Elaine369: (I wondered too)

Gailsong: the fairies begin to fly and swirl, encircling the girl

Chersquaw: Ops.   You are rright Z.  Missed that part.  The boy is the dark figurre.

Xaneli: The ring was meant for Sarah.

Chersquaw: Sarah grabs for the ring, wanting it on her hand again.

Elaine369: (is the dark figure the boy/troll?)

Chersquaw: Somehow she feels the ring will makke her safe.

Chersquaw: Afterall in her dream she was safe.

ESP Sue Z: We never really established who the dark figure is, did we?

Xaneli: The boy, still under the warlock's control, reaches for the ring again.

Chersquaw: I think the dark figure should be the boy.

Chersquaw: He is the one she saw.

Chersquaw: Coming down in the hooded cape.

Elaine369: She just managed to brush against it, and at that moment she remembers his name

Gailsong: But he stops, a vague memory stopping him

Chersquaw: At the same instance, the boy and sarah grab for the ring.

ESP Sue Z: The Warlock drives him on, causing him pain if he doesn't follow orders.

Xaneli: He struggles with something deep inside.

Chersquaw: Their hands touch.  And sparks fly, but they are fused for what seems like

Chersquaw: an eternity.

Elaine369: He thinks, "Pulling pigtails?"

ESP Sue Z: The Warlock is trapped in the other part of the cave; w/ring he can be free.

LMBRUN5: The fairies encircle both the boy and Sarah

Xaneli: His eyes begin to cloud with light color.

Chersquaw: The coach starts to dissapear.

Elaine369: His memories are returning

Xaneli: Sarah can see that he is struggling to be whole.

Gailsong: Sarah whispers his name and he relinquishes the ring

Chersquaw: The faries lift them both up into the air and carry them toward

Chersquaw: the entrance of the cave.

ESP Sue Z: What happens to the Warlock?

Gailsong: She puts the ring on her finger and the boy takes shape

Chersquaw: The warlock is trapped in the cave.

ESP Sue Z: He won't give up that easily!

Xaneli: The cave begins to get unstable.

Elaine369: But there are the other children to free

Chersquaw: And she and he come out from the cave to find many other children who have

Chersquaw: been missing there materializing too.

Chersquaw: Yes X,.

Chersquaw: Right where I was leading.  :)

Elaine369: "Mother will never believe this!"

Chersquaw: The warlock bangs agains the rocks trying to get out.

LMBRUN5: The Warlock howls in frstration and starts an incantation

Xaneli: Rocks begin to fall, the children begin to run

Chersquaw: The cave walls begin to crumble.

ESP Sue Z: As children escape, Warlock's power "explodes" - causing cave-in.

Gailsong: But the childrens excited voices disturb the chant

Elaine369: The vibrations shakes the walls

Chersquaw: a huge poof of dust erupts from the cave.

Chersquaw: all the children fall to their bellies on the ground from the

Chersquaw: explosion of the claps.

LMBRUN5: LOL

ESP Sue Z: Stinky, dark dust, like from an overripe puffball.

Xaneli: The children run, trying to find the entrance to the cave before the cave

Chersquaw: disappears  into nothing.

Elaine369: (Like that ESP)

ESP Sue Z: :)

Chersquaw: Sarah turns to Billy, who she has suddenly realized the boys name.

Gailsong: The warlocks frustrastion intensifies as the cave collapses around him

Elaine369: Tisk tisk

Xaneli: Sarah and Billy grab hands and run towards the entrance.

Chersquaw: The sound of whoosh is hear throughout the town as the cave

Chersquaw: is sucked into the earth.

Gailsong: On Sarahs hand remains a golden ring

LMBRUN5: just after the last child scrambles out

Xaneli: Where the cave stood is a cloud of smoke and dust

ESP Sue Z: Parents too "mature" to believe supernatural - how do they explain reappearance of kids?

Elaine369: Slowly the children encircle the cloud

ESP Sue Z: All unite in blowing their breath at cloud

Chersquaw: Sarah, all tattered and dirty runs into her parent's worried but

Chersquaw: e

Chersquaw: relieve arms.  You

Chersquaw: she has been missing for two weeks.  But it only seemed as if an hour to her.

ESP Sue Z: (& she didn't die of hunger or thirst)

Elaine369: "If I just tell the truth, they'll never believe it anyway," she thought

Elaine369: (ESP  fairy power?)

Chersquaw: Ah, but Elaine, there are all the other children from years of

Chersquaw: disapearance there with

Chersquaw: her.

Xaneli: Sarah tells her parents of her adventure and they nod holding their daugher with smiles on

Xaneli: their tear-strained faces.

Elaine369: Parents getting their children back don't care why

Chersquaw: Sarah looks up as a handful of fireflies swishes  past her and lifts to the sky.

ESP Sue Z: Fairy power in their breaths that blow away the Warlock dust.

Gailsong: :) Cher

Xaneli: (tear-strained=tear-stained)

Chersquaw: (Gail, I always thought of firefiles like faries.  :D)

ESP Sue Z: Like the fireflies (we had billions of them in our pasture the other night)

Elaine369: Aren't they? <grin>

Chersquaw: Well, I think that was a good plotting session!

Xaneli: That was fun!

ESP Sue Z: Sometimes fireflies dance, almost as if choreographed - it's awesome!

Chersquaw: We went from point at to point Z.

Elaine369: Yes it was!

LMBRUN5: I would say so!

Chersquaw: Z, I use to chase them as a child.

ESP Sue Z: If only plotting were that easy to do alone!!!

Chersquaw: LM there are loads of beginnings and ending too.

Chersquaw: Say, you know if anyone has been having a tough time with a plot, you all

Chersquaw: could work it out in this fashion, you know?

Xaneli: Cher, this was my first time and I really enjoyed it!

Gailsong: Boy did I stink at this!

Chersquaw: Just give the beginning, and the ending of your stories and

Chersquaw: the group will help work out the rest.

LMBRUN5: So we have a week to plan.

LMBRUN5: sort of.

Chersquaw: Jin and I have been doing this for two years and once you get going it kind of

Chersquaw: works itself out.  Like tonight, I let you all take the reigns,

Chersquaw: and added a couple o f things now and then.
