MAIN TIMELINE
AD 1968 On Terra, a high-level assasination, coupled with a major
government coup in Asia, broadens the scope and magnifies the
intensity of the brush wars on the Asian continent.
(APLW\tos), (AE\tos), (EAF\tng)
AD 1968 On Terra, the United States prepares to launch a sub-orbital
nuclear platform in response to a similar launch by other
nations. The near holocaust caused by a malfunction of the
platform's guidance system during launch, results in the
negotiation of a new treaty banning the deployment of orbital
nuclear weapons. Unfortunately, the treaty is later violated
by a number of the signatary nations.
(TDM\tos), (AE\tos), (TVH\tff)
AD 1969 On Terra, the United States launches the first manned
expedition to its nearest neighbor, Luna. The stunning success
of the Apollo mission, coupled with the promise of numerous
practical and profitable benefits from the exploration of
space, leads to an aggressive surge in the development and
utilization of space-related technologies by the United States
and other nations.
(TIY\tos), (RTT\tos)

AD 1992 On Terra, the historical biography _Chicago Mobs of the
Twenties_ is first published.
(APOTA\tos)
AD 1992-96 THE TERRAN EUGENICS WARS: In the wake of wide-spread horror
stories concerning the secret development of biological
weapons, the majority of Terra's population succumbs to blind
panic when the existence of a growing group of genetically
engineered "super-humans" is publicized. Utilizing their
superior physical and mental abilities, the "super-humans" and
their supporters take advantage of the mass confusion caused by
the wave of global hysteria to seize power simultaneously in
over forty nations. The "super-humans" are eventually overcome
by their own superior ambition: Internal strife and conflict
amoung various "super-human" factions provides sufficient
opportunity for their overthrow by pro-liberation forces.
With the defeat of Khan Noonian Singh and his followers in
southern Asia, most of the remaining "super-humans"
disappear: Presumably hunted down by radical purist elements.
Remarkably, neither nuclear weapons or the recently developed
biological viruses are employed during the struggle. Despite
the disuse of these nightmare weapons, war casualties exceed
thirty-seven million.

re-chartered. The New-UN gradually widens the scope and
breadth of its influence; assuming a strong leadership role in
matters of global policy. In an effort to encourage
cooperation among various national space agencies, the New-UN
establishes InterSat code as the standard communications
protocol to be used by all Terran space probes and manned
explorations.

@ AD 2000 Dr. Stavos Keniclius; a maverick Terran geneticist, publishes a
series of scientific articles and political essays postulating
the feasability and practicality of selective cloaning as a
means of advancig human civilization. Residual hysteria from
the recent Eugenics Wars causes strong public reaction.
Keniclius' work is denounced by fearful colleagues, and
unofficially banned from publication. Keniclius himself goes
into hiding and disappears entirely.
(SS\tos), (TIV\tas), (TWOK\tff), (AMOT\tng)
AD 2002 Nomad; Terra's first interstellar probe designed to seek out
and identify extra-solar lifeforms, is dispatched from the Sol
system. The probe's principal designer Dr. Jackson Roykirk;
arguably the most brilliant though erratic Terran scientist of
the early 21rst century, seeks to create the first electronic
intelligence system capable of independent logic and action.
After leaving the Sol system, he Nomad proto-type suffers a
meteor collision and is presumed destroyed when data
transmissions cease. No further nodels of the probe are
planned.
(TC\tos)
AD 2018 The first successful tests of a Terran spacecraft equipped with
a fusion-powered Impulse drive system opens the way for rapid
expansion into the solar system. The necessity of sleeper-
ships for interplanetary voyages is entirely eliminated by the
near-relativistic speeds made possible by Impulse drive. Under
the auspicies of the New-UN, a multi-national effort is
undertaken to colonize Mars and utilize its natural resources,
as well as to explore the outer planets of the solar system.

collapses due to changing social attitudes and a growing public
understanding of the falacious, unscientific nature of
chryonics.
(TNZ\tng)
@ AD 2050 Terra's ozone layer becomes so substantially weakened by the
unabated release of chemical pollutants into the atmosphere,
that global bombardment by high levels of ultra-violet
radiation causes cataclysmic health and environmental problems
which threaten the continued survival of Terran civilization.
The timely introduction of the Universal Atmospheric Element
Compensator developed by the Lukurion Group's bio-engineering
research outpost on Klent in the Mars/Jupiter asteroid belt,
narrowly averts irreversible global disaster by artificially
re-oxygenate the ozone layer and breaking down decades of
accumulated pollutants.

@ AD 2050 On Terra, the Draco lizard becomes1 extinct.
(NG\tng)
@ AD 2065 On Terra, the brilliant propulsion physicist Dr. Zephram
Cochorane pioneers the field of warp physics. Utilizing a
controlled matter/anti-matter reaction and a proto-type warp
coil, Cochorane succeeds in generating a stable sub-space field
and propels an unmanned test probe beyond the speed of light.
The rapid development and utilization of Warp Drive requires
the concerted efforts and resources of Terra's many nations and
space colonies to be achieved. Several cooperative ventures
are undertaken to design and construct warp driven vessals.
The first starship development project produces the SS
Bonaventure. The success of the Bonaventure's maiden voyage to
Alpha Centauri serves to spur on the construction of other
vessals. The Bonaventure herself is lost during her third
voyage near the Delta Triangle.

@ AD 2075 THE TERRAN NUCLEAR HOLOCAUST: After more than seven decades of
relative peace and growing international cooperation on Terra,
the movement toward global unification is shattered by a
successful coup in the United States by a growing reactionary
element of the American military establishment espousing hard-
line nationalism. The coup's leader; dubbed "Colonel Green" by
both followers and foes, is an acknowledged US military
tacticical genius. He and his followers employ secretly
developed chemical control agents of a highly addictive nature
to gain influence over other key US military leaders and
specialists. Green's forces launch a campaign of chaos to
forstall any organized response to his takeover. While
appearing to negotiate for a cease-fire with domestic
politicians and foreign representatives; Green executes a wave
of calculated assaults which invariably lead to the out-break
of global war. The ensuing conflict is infrequently punctuated
by the use of tactical nuclear weapons. As a result of Green's
mad ambitions, Terran civilization spirals downward into a
period of savagery and barbarism. Only Terra's space colonies
manage to escape the carnage.

@ AD 2075 THE FUNDAMENTAL DECLARATIONS OF THE MARTIAN COLONIES: Fearing
that the out-break of war on Terra might spread into space; the
multi-national colonial government of the Martian Colonies
takes unilateral action by abrigating its New-UN charter and
declaring itself, all Martian citizens, and all Martian
territories free and independent of any Terran authority. In
adopting the Fundamental Declarations, the Martian Colonies
establish a free, democratic society. Consumed by more
immediate problems at home, no Terran government is able to
take action against the colonial revolt.

genocidal war.
(EAF\tng), (TR\tng)
@ AD 2080 Desperate Terran leaders successfully avert the onset of
another genocidal war; turning the planet instead back toward
recovery and reconstruction. Diplomatic relations between
the United States and other war-torn nations are reopenned via
the ressurected New-UN, with the Martian Colonies acting as a
neutral mediator. With the restoration of nominal peace and
order to many areas of the planet, the environmental clean-up
and economic recovery are allowed to begin. On the medical
frontier, research into the treatment of radiation sickness
with adrenalin is abandoned when hyronalin; a bio-gen agent
proves to be highly effective in treating most known forms of
radiation sickness, is made widely availible. The new drug
offers hope of relief for countless numbers of victims of the

recently developed magnetic flux capacitors. The vessal's
command and control operations are incorporated into a
sophisticated duotronic library computer system designed by Dr.

refined design feature allows the vessal to discard its warp
nacelles in a critical emergency and operate solely on its
Impulse drive. During its trial-runs, the Enterprise shatters

testbed for several of Starfleet's emerging technologies
projects. It is initially equipped with an experimental
transwarp drive system which, despite its theoretical soundness
on the drawing-board, proves ineffective in actual field tests.
During the same year the first contingent of Constellation-

commissioned into service. This new class of light cruisers
employs an Avidyne warp drive system. With the rapid
production and deployment of Constellation-class vessals,
Starfleet begins to phase out its older Soyuz-class cruisers.

A confrontation between the "super-humans" and the USS

detonated in the Mutara Nebula; creating a new star system with

of the ill-fated Genesis experiment by the Klingons, causes a

T'Pel of Vulcan to a secret diplomatic meeting with Romulan
representatives in the Neutral Zone. When the Ambassador is
abducted via sophisticated subterfuge; the Enterprise confronts
the Romulans, and discovers that the 'Ambassador' is in

AD 2367-68 THE KLINGON CIVIL WAR: The on-going power struggle within the
Klingon Empire comes to a head when Gowron; the officially
designated successor to the imperial leadership, attempts to
solidify his claim by moving forward with his installation as
Chancilor of the High Council. The family of former Councilor
Duras and their supporters challange the succession of Gowron
and publicly raise the spectre of Federation influence in
Klingon politics by questioning the neutrality of Captain
Jean-Luc Picard in his role as the Arbiter of Succession. The
charge of Federation interference in the affairs of the Empire
serves as a rallying cry to muster armed opposition to the rule
of Gowron. In the early stages of the ensuing conflict,
loyalist forces under the banner of Gowron suffer several major
defeats at the hands of the Opposition. The overwhelming
forces fielded by the Duras faction on several fronts with
seemingly inexhaustible resources, leads Federation observers
to suspect covert Romulan aid to the Opposition. In an effort
to expose the Romulan connection; Starfleet establishes a
blockade equipped with a tachyon detection net along the
Klingon/Romulan border and eventually succeeds in snaring a
Romulan supply convoy transporting desperately needed war
materials to the Duras faction. With the exposure of the
Romulans' involvement and the loss of their supply pipeline,
the Opposition rapid falls apart; allowing Gowron's forces to
triumph. Curiously; official Klingon accounts of the war
compiled shortly after its resolution, fail to make mention the
crucial role played by the Federation in helping to bring an
end to the conflict. Several leaders of the Opposition,
including the sisters of Duras, evade capture and remain at
large.

AD 2368 The sudden disappearance of Federation Ambassador Spock from
his native Vulcan, and his subsequent sighting on Romulus by
Starfleet intelligence sources, raises the spectre of a high-
level defection of disasterous proportions to Federation
security. An immediate investigation by Starfleet personnel
reveals that a private diplomatic initiative undertaken by the
Vulcan ambassador and a member of the Romulan Senate aimed at
peacefully reuniting the Vulcan and Romulan peoples may be
nearing fruition. Further investigation reveals the
reunification initiative to be a ruse by the Romulan military
designed to disguise an invasion force en route to Vulcan as a
peace envoy. As the Romulan facade unravels, a complex web of
intrigue encompassing Federation smugglers, Ferengi arms
dealers, and Barolian traders is uncovered. The ill-fated
invasion is thrawted, and the Romulan forces are intercepted
near Galorndon Core. The Romulans elect to destroy their own
invasion force and retreat back across the Neutral Zone. In
addition to further aggrevating ever-strained relations between
the Federation and the Empire; the incident also underscores
the significance of a previous Romulan intrusion at Galorndon
Core nearly two years earlier. Despite the failure of
diplomatic efforts with Romulan government, Ambassador Spock
chooses to remain on Romulus to aid in the fostering of a
growing peace movement among the Romulan masses.

AD 2369 The deployment of additional troops by the Cardassian Union
along its disputed border with the Federation, coupled with
rumors of possible metagenic weapons experiments by the
Cardassians on Celtris III; prompts Starfleet to prepare for an
expected Cardassian incursion into Federation space. Starfleet
Command also dispatches a group of USS Enterprise officers led
by captain Jean-Luc Picard to investigate the metagenic weapons
rumors. Reconnisance efforts reveal the rumors to be a ruse
designed to capture Picard for interrogation regarding his
knowledge of Starfleet tactical operations in the border areas.

AD 2369 At the request of the Bajoran provisional government, Starfleet
establishes a presence in the Bajoran system to administer
Federation releif efforts and assist in near-space peace-
keeping activities following the withdrawl of Cardassian
occupational forces from the area. Station DS9 is designated
as the control center for all Starfleet operations in the
system. The subsequent discovery of a stable wormhole in the
Dinorius Belt, providing a permenant short-cut to the distant
Gamma Quadrant, serves to expand Starfleet's role in the area
to include the administration and protection of the phenomenon
as a Bajoran natural resource.
