TITLE: Sidekick 95 Alarm Tips

Sidekick 95 will allow you to set a visual reminder to pop up when it’s time for an appointment. You can also choose to play an alarm sound, and specify when each alarm goes off. An appointment with an alarm displays a bell icon to the left of the text. You also can specify a .WAV sound to play when the alarm goes off.

Sidekick 95 requires a sound card to play .wav files, and looks for these files in your \Windows\Media directory. If you don’t have a sound card, or your .wav files are stored in a different directory, there will be no sound accompanying the visual alarm when it appears.

Sidekick 95 checks for alarms every 15 minutes (on the quarter hour) and sounds an alarm at that time for any appointments that occur in the following 15 minute time frame. Sidekick will only sound an alarm at the top of the hour, at the quarter hour, half hour, and three quarter hour marks. So, if you’ve set an alarm for 1:10 PM for example, the alarm will appear at 1:00 PM. The only time Sidekick 95 will sound an alarm at 1:10 PM, is if an alarm goes off at 1:00 PM, and you opt to “snooze” for 10 minutes.

Remember that if you’re setting an alarm to test the sound, you should do so at least ½ hour in the future, and the lead time for that alarm should not be more than 15 minutes, or Sidekick 95 won’t “see” the alarm. For example, if the lead time for a 1:20 PM appointment is 10 minutes, and you’re setting the alarm at 1:05 PM, Sidekick will have already checked for alarms in the 1:00 to 1:15 PM timeframe (at 1:00 PM) and miss that alarm.
