I'm moderately experienced with home fabrication of PCBs, but the more I

look at it, the more attractive a PCB house looks. I've come across a

Canadian vendor [this one] that will produce two 4x5" board, DS/PTH,

for about $79 total. The per board price goes down as total area increases.

You have to consider your time, so out-sourcing may be worth it.

fast, economical. For complete information call or write [us]"

They do REALLY CHEAP stuff, with no plated through

holes. Here's more info (From Ron Higgins)

They specialize in small run / prototype pcboards.

Prices are:

$0.65 per sq. in  for single sided boards

$0.95 per sq. in  for double sided boards

$0.01 per hole drilled

$5.00 1 time film charge for single sided boards

$7.50 1 time film charge for double sided boards

Plenty of additional information is available if you give them a call.

They claim to be able to turn an order around in 7-10 days.

(From John Nagle)

[They] will do a board for only $0.78 a square inch plus $0.01 per hole

plus $7.50 to make film from 2x art. No plated-through holes, no silkscreen,

no solder mask, no inspection, 15-mil design rules.  $10 minimum.

They were pretty reasonable, and pretty fast, but not the fastest or cheapest.

However, they do have a neat business card which is a circuit board. Their

prices did seem very competitive is you were getting a really small number of

boards (we eventually got several dozen, but got quotes for less as well)

They also have a US Robotics Courier HST and a Telebit Trailblazer modem

on-line 24 hours a day. It's fairly simple to get an account with them,

just call them and they will fax or mail you a credit application.

I am in no way associated with L.I.T., just a very satisfied customer.

(From Jory Bell)

They were a bit pricey, but they have one day turnaround, and expressed a

willingness to stay nights and weekends to do the work. They said they would

take something on a Friday early morning, and do it over the weekend

(by Monday am) and that would be considered 3 day. If I could have afforded

them, I might have gone with them just for their professional zeal. They also

called back with a quote right away, which was not always the case. Also,

their normal turnaround time was 5 days (although this was obviously still

more expensive that slow places).

they don't have a phone number, and they seemed a bit nervous when we

tracked them down and gave them a call... but, they promised to send us

stuff and claimed that they still do pcb fabrication REALLY CHEAP, WITH

PLATED-THROUGH HOLES...

(From John Nagle)

[They] can do plated-through holes.  The basic rate is $0.90 per square inch,

plus $5 shipping and handling, plus $5 for negatives.  For $10 and a self-

addressed disk mailer, this outfit will send you their own PC design program,

which requires a PC, mouse, and EGA/VGA graphics.  Files from their program

are accepted as board specs at no extra charge, or you can send 2x films.

They require 15-12 design rules (min. 15 mil traces, 12 mil min spacing), so

this is for modest-density boards.  (I'd try 15-15 design rules and not push

it, since you don't get board inspection.)

PCBOARDS, Inc.

Chanute, KS ?????

Tel: 1-316-431-2031

-------------------

(From Jory Bell)

The had a really low quote for small numbers, but their turnaround time was

not that fast (10-20 working days). But, if I had time, I would have gone

with them to save money.

####

PSI, Inc.

??????, Oregon ??????

Tel: 1-503-397-5682

-------------------

(From Jory Bell)

I eventually went with PSI Inc in Oregon, they were very flexible and got

us quick turn around, of a low number of boards, cut to our specs. They were

also responsive when we told them what type of service other fabricators had

offered in a particular area. They do 3 day turnaround.

o They do Single-sided at the following prices:

  $0.40 per square inch

  $0.01 per hole

$0.20 to cut up the finished PCBs

o They will also convert schematics to a PCB

  $0.50 per hole

$30.00 to photoplot (necessary for the PCB)

(From their ad in Electronics Now)

"Printer circuit boards. Plated, etched, and machined to your design. Small

runs OK. Call or write [for full information]" "[We] fabricated from your

designs or schematics. 25 years experience."

####

SM Co.

Tel: 1-704-254-0877

-------------------

(From Jory Bell)

A lot of setup charges, but pretty cheap. They did 7-10 days as their usual

"fast" turn around. They will accept 4X laser printed layout (although they

don't like it).

####

Trend

Dedham, MA ?????

Tel: 1-617-326-8700

-------------------

(From Jory Bell)

Trend was expensive... like really expensive. However, they did call back

and ask about why we didn't choose them after the quote, and they told us

that they specialize in multilayer (we had 2 layer) boards, and "buried

capacitance", which eliminates the need for bypass capacitors. They sent us

some cute literature.

####

Volunteer Circuits

Bells, TN ??????

Tel: 1-???-???-????

(From Jory Bell)

They were in direct competition with PSI, and they lost out by just a bit.

I would recommend them for at least a quote on any fast job...
