penalties in the game.
Stats
In League Mode NFL '94 keeps the Top 10 performers in the
AFC, NFC, and combined NFL in interceptions, sacks,
rushing, receiving, passing, team vs. rush, team vs.
pass, team passing, team defense, team offense, kicking,
punting, kick returning, and punt returning.
OFFENSE
To Stiff-Arm: Press A when a defender is approaching.
To High Step: Press A when a defender is diving toward
you.
To Spin: Press B.
To Speedburst: Press C.
To Dive: Press C after a Speedburst.
Quarterback's Corner:
*Use the play select screen. It shows you which side of
the field you're on as well as exactly how far the
receivers will go before making their cuts.
*Pick your play carefully. Use the wide end of the field
to your advantage! If you are on the left hash mark run
right or use a receiver lined up on the right. Flip the
plays if your favorite receiver is lined up on the narrow
side.
*Know your team. Memorize how many clicks of the B
button will get you to which receiver. The teams of the
NFL can run like a well-oiled machine if worked properly.
*Don't panic in the pocket! An average play in the NFL
lasts around 5 seconds, but it's all the time you'll need
if you know what you gotta do.
Passing with the Pros:
**Learn this game on Beginner; you can't be in the NFL
until you've gone through high school and college!**
**Always press A to pass when your receiver makes his
cut. Passing too late or too soon will result in an
interception or an incompletion**
**Press and hold the A button to throw a high arc pass
Tap the A button to throw a hard, straight pass
**After the pass is thrown press B to take control of the
receiver; then when he's about to make the catch press C
to make an extra effort!**
**Learn to play against the defense by knowing your
receivers' patterns! Look at where the defense is lined
up and, at the line of scrimmage, pick a receiver who
will work against the defenders formations**
**If your receiver seems to run away from the pass; you
probably faded too far back in the pocket and/or threw
the pass too late. Try letting the computer fade you
back, working from the shotgun, or fading to the left or
right. There is no fool- proof method of passing, and
good coverage will kill good passing every time in the
NFL!**
**On pass plays of 15 yards or more try this: Fade the QB
in the opposite direction of your primary receiver (if
he's on the left sideline fade directly right by holding
the direction pad right before the snap). The Safety
will commit towards you and leave your receiver alone!
This will devastate Zone defenses and work more often
than not against Man to Man coverage**
Here's some pass plays to get you started (in Beginner
Mode):
Receiver Formation Play
Fade Pass at WR1 Gold Slot
212 Shoot Left 5 Yds.
WR2 Silver 679 Sail
Right 15 Yds.
TE1 White 679 Flat
Right 15 Yds
RB1 Gold Slot 999 Seam
Back Immed.
Running with the Best:
Breaking a tackle can be tricky in the NFL, but a burst
of speed into a spin
(C button then B button) gives you a great chance of
breaking into the secondary and showing your stuff in the
open field!
Here's some running plays to get you started:
Position Formation Play
Fade Pitch at
RB1 Green Over Pitch Strong
Right When RB passes QB
RB2 White Flip Weak
Left When RB passes QB
Both of these plays work like the classic Option play!
Before the snap press the direction you want to fade and
wait for the RB to pass the line of scrimmage. Press A
to pitch to him and get ready to rumble!
DEFENSE
Press B to control the player closest to the ball.
Press C to Speedburst.
Press C twice to dive.
*To tackle: Face the ball carrier Head On if you can.
Diving tackles are possible, but beware a slippery Wide
Receiver burning you deep more often than not!
*Taking Control of the nearest player to the ball can be
risky! Try controlling only one defender (a Defensive-
End or a Safety) for the entire play.
*A good defense stops a good offense every time, and
don't let anyone tell you different! To play with the
best takes patience and practice; timing and technique.
Before you know it you'll be making diving interceptions
look easy.
*Odd or Even defensive Personel works well in most
situations. Find your style!
Do you use a Zone Defense and give up passes underneath?
Or go with Man to Man Coverage and risk the Big Play?
Prevent can be the answer to a 3rd and long situation,
and your Goal Line squad would rather die than give an
inch!
SPECIAL TEAMS
To adjust for wind on any kick or punt: Notice the
kicking gauge shows wind resistance with a straight line
left or right of center. After pressing A to start the
play, move the D-Pad left or right to "straighten out"
the kick. Then press A again for distance (the top of
the gauge is the longest).
To kick an onside kick: Press A to start the play, move
the D-Pad left or right for placement of the kick, then
Press A again at the bottom line on the kicking gauge.
Try and take control of the closest defender by pressing
B, and cover the kick with the C button. This is the
arguably the most difficult play in football.
