THE BLACK HILLS

(For The Sioux Nations & The USA)

The Black Hills, South Dakota, sleep in wait

             Until its U.S. keepers realize

They're bound, by Honour's promise, soon or late,

To render truth beneath Lakhota's skies.

             In eighteen-sixty-eight, the USA

Pledged those hills to the Sioux, who wait today.

They wait, despite the half-a-billion bucks

False houses, and a court that's not supreme,

Has offered them for what's Ancestral -- shucks!

A nobler vision still maintains their dream.

The Heart of everything that is -- those Hills --

Instills a virtue which sustains and fills.

On faithful time, before White people came,

The Sioux were Regal in their rolling lands.

Pride was their life-blood.  Sadly, now, your shame,

And your dishonour, still deprive Sioux bands.

Those eight Sioux tribes have waited long, in vain,

While you malign their Spirits, causing pain.

The time is long past when the lure of gold

Made you abuse your Honour!  Were you great,

You'd come to terms, reclaiming Honour sold

For metal worthless to the ones who wait.

Redeem your souls!  Let your frail Honour sing

In the Black Hills, which Sioux deem everything!
