TECH TIP NO. 15.001

DATE:          May 10, 1991

BOARD TYPE:      FAST DISK EISA SCSI HOST ADAPTER

BOARD REVISION:  Series 15 Rev D or D1

BOARD FREQUENCY:

RELEASED BY:     Engineering Dept.

PROBLEM:   The Floppy Disk Controller on the Series 15 Board is not compatible

   with a streaming tape drive.

REASON:    The Intel 82077-1 Floppy Disk Controller used on the FAST DISK EISA

SCSI HOST ADAPTER does not support the streaming tape drives.

SOLUTION:  Intel now has a version of the Floppy Disk Controller that is

compatible with streaming tape drives.  The Intel part number is

82077AA-1.  All boards should be shipped with the new 82077AA-1

Floppy Disk Controller in the future.  If a customer has a board

with the 82077-1 Floppy Disk Controller and needs to use a

streaming tape drive, the Floppy Disk Controller should be swapped

for the new one.  It is a 68-pin PLCC package at U76.  It is in a

socket but a special tool is needed to remove it from the socket.
