Review of a few Albums by Laibach
Review of a few Albums by Laibach .
Laibach is a Rock/Industrial music group. Not at all Punkish like Ministry.
the type you listen to and appreciate .
Panorama/Die Liebe : this tape will give you an idea of what they are doing.
a lot of instruments, sparkled with Militaristic
(german during the 40's) overtones. Not their best ...
Mac Beth : all instrumental, good for listening . Again, the music Laibach
make are more for listening than for dancing (dancing like the one
Front 242 is making). OK tape.
Sympathy for the Devil : It is said that the songs were written by Mick Jagger
and Keith Richards. Not being one of their fans, I cannot say.
Highlights of the tape : you can hear the demon speaks, using
different voices (wise old man, female,) representing his different
incarnations.
you can hear interviews related to the assassination of JFK.
overall : pretty good .
The absolute second tape to get from them .
Let it Be : the Beatles classic where only the words have been preserved but
the music have been changed to a max.
ex : I ME MINE : has been transformed into a song a mom would sing
to her baby to get to sleep .
For you blue (instrumental) and Maggie mae (inst + voice) :
sounds like they were being sung by WW2 german soldiers
parading in front of their leader (let's not name names ...)
The absolute tape to get to know what Laibach sounds like and
which will tell you if it is a group that matches your tastes.
What I like in Laibach :
their diversity in style. From classical Industrial like Let it be or panorama
to totally instrumental that could be a musical score for a movie (mac beth).
to the delightful weird that sounds good ("I'll listen to it one more time .")
(sympathy for the devil) .
They have a structure and you dont feel agressed (like in Ministry)
Don't forget my personal favorite, OPUS DEI, with a cover of
Queen's ONE VISION in both english and german (yeah, it takes on a different
,meaning than Queen had in mind) (whoops, that's just in german).
The otehr cover is the one that is in two languages; this is LIFE IS LIFE
from the group OPUS. The other songs on the LP, CD are original and
also excellent.
Get the CD of Sympathy for the DEvil... it's about 40 minutes long, 7 mixes.
All interesting mixes, too.
