> US Little Fluffy Clouds
A few details to add to the news about the new US Orb CD. Copies of the
12" single arrived in the UK last week (using Lazlo's format) :
12": 1991 US (Big Life/Mercury/Polygram 865139-1) [Nov 1991]
6:10 Little Fluffy Clouds (* cumulonimbus mix)/
6:38 Little Fluffy Clouds (+ dis joint don't argue mix)//
3:59 Little Fluffy Clouds ($ dance mk mix I edit)/
3:58 Little Fluffy Clouds (+ inner master mix)/
8:00 Outlands (= fountain of elisha)
* - mixed by Pal Joey
+ - mixed by Coldcut for Ahead Of Our Time Productions
$ - mixed by Thrash
= - mixed by Thomas Fehlman (aka Ready Made)
The CD catalogue number is probably 865139-2.
> Extracted a free magazine published for a major UK chain record store,
' The HMV Christmas Magazine - review of the year 1991 ' :
" Those corn circling wind-up merchants the KLF decorated dance
floors everywhere with "What Time Is Love" and "Last Train To
Transcentral" [sic] then stunned us all with their Tammy
Wynette collaboration on "Justified And Ancient". Real class
act. "
Two comments - (i) "WTIL" wasn't the other UK hit single in 1991, it was
"3 AM Eternal" of course,
(ii) For a magazine published well before the release of the
single "Justified And Ancient", it seems to know a great
deal about how it will sound and it's impact....! A
little 'artistic licence' on behalf of the author, Max
Bell, methinks !
> Justified And Ancient further details
A few more details of one of the "Justified And Ancient" UK promo 12"s
have emerged, thanks to Dan Gibson. It is already known that the new
subtitle is 'Stand By The Jams' (from 'Stand By Your Man'). One of the
earlier promos is subtitled 'All Bound For Mu Mu Land', with the flip
side being 'Make Mine a 99', catalogue number CHOC ICE 1 !
DJ Fat Monks includes a transcription of the press release accompanying
the first promo copies :
" Here it is, the new KLF single, Justified and Ancient. You will
be sent a 4-track promo in late November including a remix
featuring Tammy Wynette on vocals. (Stand by the JAMS - of course) "
Dan also provides the lyrics :
<< All Bound for mu mu land.
Bring the beat back.
They're justified and they're ancient,
And they like to roam the land.
They don't want to upset the applecart,
and they don't want to cause any harm,
But if you don't like what they are going to do,
You'd better not stop them coz they're coming through.
The last train left an hour ago,
They were singing 'All aboard'.
All bound for mu mu land,
Then someone started screaming 'Turn up the strobe !'
Justified and Ancient,
Ancient and they're Justified,
Rockin to the rhythm and the house came down.
With the plan and the key to,
Answer <??> Mu Mu.
<??> tribe of the JAMs
I know where the beat is at,
Coz I know what time it is,
<??> Make mine a ninety-nine.
New style, meanwhile,
<??> on a mission while fishing in the river of life,
Fishing in the river of life,
Fishing in the river of life,
Fishing in the river fishing in the river,
Fishing in the river of life. >>
DJ Fat Monk's comment : Lots of samples of Voodoo Chile (Hendrix) and very
dancey. Well kickin' man, a deffo top ten and club hit. If The Black Room
release depends on its success - The Black Room will be out soon ! "
Thanks for all that Dan !
> Ninety Nine ?
The reason the catalogue number is to be KLF 099, rather than KLF 013 or
014, or JAMS 29, is because of their current 'fascination' for ice cream.
The KLF have been involving a lot of ice cream recently - they drove an ice
cream van on stage at an special appearance at a Liverpool festival earlier
this year, and proceeded to hand out ice creams; the sleeve notes to "It's
Grim Up North" were adapted from the November 1990 original Info Sheet to
include them driving an ice cream van over the Pennine Hills in the UK; and
the "Justified And Ancient" lyrics include the 'Make mine a 99' line. Why
the 99 ? In the UK, a '99' is a type of Ice Cream cone with a milk
chocolate flake protruding from the ice cream. Hence the '99' in the
catalogue number, to further emphasise the ice cream element !
> Justified And Ancient release details
The release date is now confirmed as 25th November, on 7", 12", CD and

A strip advertisement proclaims : " Freshly Made For You " 25.11.91
> Extract from The New Musical Express, dated 16th November 1991 :
" When The KLF turned down an offer to remix an upcoming Whitney Houston
single, she persuaded the producers of her movie debut 'The Bodyguard'
(co-star Kevin Costner) to make them an offer they couldn't refuse - the
chance to compose the soundtrack for the movie. And, being The KLF, they
refused - of course. "
> Eternally 3 AM
A record was released in the US a little while back on the Lafayette label,
entitled "I Love NY", by Love Generation. The B-side is a track called
"Eternally 3 AM", and is described by 'Mixmag Update' as :
" ...almost jazz-funk, with an organ line, synth/violin
solos and strings to please, dancing elevations everywhere "
