Doctor Who: The Web of Fear

 


 THE WEB OF FEAR.   Written by Mervyn Haisman, Henry Lincoln.   6 episodes.

                    3rd February - 9th March 1968.

                   

 COMPANIONS:- Jamie and Victoria.


   The TARDIS is trapped by a web like substance and materialises in the

 London Underground. They meet Professor Travers again and he admits that

 he has reactivated a Yeti, letting the Great Intelligence back into the

 physical world. The web like growth has invaded the underground and has

 cut off the roads into London. The Doctor meets the C.O. of the army

 operation, Colonel Lethbridge-Stewart.

   The Doctor has to surrender himself to the Intelligence as it has taken

 Victoria and Travers hostage. A brain-draining helmet is placed on his

 head but he attempts to drain the Intelligence and is succeeding until he

 is "rescued" by his friends.

   This story somewhat shaped the future format of the show, that of alien

 menaces in the modern world. It also laid the foundations for the 

 establishment of U.N.I.T.
