                Orions.

                disappearance of the USS Defiant in an unsurveyed sector,

                retrieve their comrade Captain Spock.  The arrival of Klingon
                forces in the Mutara sector results in the execution of Kirk's
                son David Marcus, and the destruction of the Federation
                starship.  A rejuvinated Spock is rescued from the doomed
                Genesis Planet, and returned to Vulcan to undergo mind
                Refusion.

  AD 2286       Admiral James T. Kirk stands court-martial for the second time
                in his career.  Most of the charges brought against him and his

                command of the new Constitution-class USS Enterprise
                NCC-1701-A.  During its maiden voyage, the new starship suffers
                severe system-wide technological failures.

                Federation physicists and propulsion engineers.

                gaseous planetary anomalies in Beta Quadrant under the
                command of its new Captain, Hikaru Sulu.  Lieutenant Janice
                Rand signs aboard as Cheif Commications Officer.

  AD 2294       At the behest of his father, Captain Spick undertakes the role
 (VD 8927)      of Federation Special Envoy to the Klingon Empire.  A
                devastating economic and environmental disaster within the
                Empire causes the Klingon Chancilor to initiate legitimate
                negotiations for lasting peace and economic cooperation with
                the Federation.  Spock's initial efforts lay the groundwork for
                a top-level summit meeting.  Negotiations are nearly derailed
                by the assasination of the Klingon Chancilor by Starfleet
                personnel, as well as the arrest and prosecution of Captian
                James Kirk & Dr. Leonard McCoy by the Klingons.  The Enterprise
                officers are eventually exonerated after the true conspirators
                behind the asassination are exposed.  The peace conference goes
                forward on the Khitomer Outpost, where Spock first meets and
                opens a rapore with the Romulan Senator Pardek.  The
                instrumental role played by Captain Spock during the crucial
                first step in establishing lasting peace with the Klingons
                marks the end of his tenure as a serving Starfleet officer, and
                the beginning of his carreer as a Federation diplomat.

  AD 2294       Upon returning to Terra from the Khitomer Conference, Captain

                transport vessal USS Jenolan ferrying him to Norpin V
                disappears.

                the fight Picard is mortally wounded by a sword-thrust through
                the heart.  Prompt emergency surgery by Starbase medical
                personnel to implant an artificial heart narrowly saves his
                life.

                Anina.  The peace talks break down after rebel leaders

                a stay of execution on all Federation prisoners.
