Sadness pervades me,
A pall over my soul.

My emotions long to be unshackled,
To surge like waves in the fury of a storm --
To beat thunderously against my breastbone!

Love, most of all, desperate,
Longing for company!
While fear stalks,
A stealthy foe within me,
Hope dying,
Sweet sadness winning,
Allied with loneliness....
