Excalibur Communications, Inc., announces the Next Generation
Remote Bulletin Board Software System, Excalibur BBS.
Excalibur is the new remote bulletin board software system which
runs entirely under Microsoft Windows 3.1 or Windows/NT. Excalibur BBS
software is the first true 100% GUI (graphical user interface) and
Multitasking BBS system available! Callers of Excalibur will be
presented with full color graphical menus and icons which are entirely
mouse selectable. Company president, Eric Weber states, "never before
has there been a bulletin board system engineered with the features of
Excalibur, by utilizing the Windows environment, we have created a BBS
system which is 100% GUI and transfers binary color graphics screens
and bitmap icons across the modems FASTER than conventional ANSI or
ASCII screens. Also, the ability to multitask and do things such as read
messages while downloading files is unprecedented".
Excalibur BBS features include full multitasking abilities and graphics
capabilities never before available in a BBS software package. Examples

Excalibur contains proprietary software error correction ensuring
non-error correcting modems 100% noise free transmissions.
Visual Graphic Browser (built-in photographic imaging support)
Rather than looking at misleading file descriptions, Excalibur
allow callers to actually browse "thumbnails" or "stamp views"
of all GIF graphic files in the file database.. All while on-line!
Complete Audit Trail of User Activities
Excalibur maintains a complete accounting of all user
transactions. This "caller log" can be view or parsed for
invalid login attempts or other activities.
File Database File-Scroll
Not your standard "Dumb" Scrollback Buffer; Excalibur BBS
allows you to scroll back file directories and actually mark
files for downloading or "read" the extended file information
just as if it had never passed. Imagine never having to relist
a file directory!!

Paradox Database Handling
Excalibur uses the robust Paradox Engine for Windows for all
user, file and message base handling thus allowing third party
utilities to be written in bonafide industry standard databases
like Borland's Paradox for Windows or Microsoft Access.
No more proprietary database formats like other BBS software packages use!
Multi-user Made Easy
For cost effective multi-user solutions you can connect up to
eight external modems via an octopus cable to a SINGLE 486 or
Pentium (586) computer system.
Guaranteed Multi-user File Handling
Because data is maintained by Borland's Paradox Engine, you are
ensured complete file and record locking on large multi-user
Excalibur network installations. Paradox data management is
trusted by many of the largest corporations throughout the world!
Excalibur has 3 methods of subscription support
A) File Cost System - Enter an initial credit amount into the
user record. Each file for downloading is assigned a cost or
price, when user download that file the user account is debited
that amount.
B) Byte Ratio - Define a byte or file ratio, such as a 10:1
ratio. A 10:1 ratio would allow the user to download only 10
files for every 1 file uploaded.
C) Calendar Period - Define any time period to allow the user
access to the system, i.e., a 6 month subscription would allow
the user full access for 6 months then reduce the access once
the 6 month period has expired.
Powerful Sysop Utilities Included
Excalibur includes a powerful maintenance and setup program.
For example, the sysop can move files from the Uploads
Directory into the Games Directory by simply "Dragging and
Dropping" the files into the desired directory. Other features
include the ability to embed GIF (89a) comments into GIF
files, add extended file descriptions of any length which can
be viewed and scrolled by the BBS user and much more. Also
include are robust user and message database editors featuring
drag and drop maintenance capabilities.
