The Clergy received favorable review in a recent issue of Flipside

Dale Early just announced that "Tempered Steel" will be back on the air in
a few weeks!!! The original "Brutal Radio Show" was yanked off the air a

A new band emerges out of Florida called Catherine Speed.. headed by a
cute girl named Jennifer, this 5-piece band (3 of which are female)
compare their sound to a combination of Obituary and White Zombie...
The Toerags will be having their last concert on New Year's Eve and then
break up.. they are the original punk/funk/glam/thrash/gospel/metal/???
band from Australia with names like Pumpkin Fufkin and Dr. Bean (the Pope
of Glam)... and to think they're breaking up... now all we have left is
Hot Pink Turtle.. *sigh*
The Elect is a new band from Maryland with a female guitarist and 2
brothers on both guitar and drums looking for a bass player. They are
described as heavy progressive/gothic metal.. also new to the scene is
After Death, an emerging gothic metal band from Virginia... to contact

ragman's Eric Hutts announced the forming of his record label, Alphabet
Records, with bands from the East Coast and Europe already in the wings to
be signed.. Eric will be in London in April to check out bands there, but
in the meantime, if you want to catch him in this area, he'll be at the
Recluse Chant concert at the Cave (formerly Bender's) in Manassas VA on
Fri Dec. 11 at 7pm.. ragman has now a drummer but looking for a bassist
to fulfill their mission to be a complete 4-piece Seattle grunge band from
Wilmington DE...
The Elect will be hosting a "Happy Birthday Jesus" party on Fri Dec. 18 at
the home of Anne Majors (guitarist, The Elect) in Bowie MD.. for

Have I got some awesome news for you metalheads in south Florida!!!
"Tempered Steel" will be back on the air in a few weeks!! Dale Early just
informed me that he got the radio station to be convinced to have him back
so look for his super-brutal thrash/death/grind/?? show to be back on the
air in Ft. Myers FL in a few weeks... also, tapes of the show are
available upon request for $2.00/show for tapes & postage, free for those
overseas and in prison. Tempered Steel, c/o Dale Early, P.O. Box 1212,
Ft. Myers, FL 33902...
Seventh Angel and Decision-D, Brits and Dutch, both heavy, mind you, are
still on the road together in the Netherlands and in the spring will be
touring Germany and Switzerland.. Dutch group Sculpture are putting
together a new magazine of White Metal bands to "support the underground",
and Tefilla and Redeemer are new brutal bands in Holland while Kyrie and
Repentance are new hard rock/metal acts in that same country..
Final Judgement, death/thrash from Atlanta, just announced the release of
their pre-album demo, "Drastic Dose of Reality", with 4 songs. The demo
is produced by the same producer of Nosferatu, Diseased and Darklord, and
will be out by the end of next week.. also look for Final Judgement to be
in Ozark, Alabama on February 19 opening for Jesus Freaks.. and they tuned
down to D!
Bands confirmed on the "Up From The Underground Vol I" so far: Gothic
Outcast (who are recording a live album and recently lost one of their
members), Final Prophecy, Final Judgement, Ikthus and The Risen.. also
look for "Up From The Underground" video early '93, both on A.R.T. Records...
Virginia brutal death/guitar band Sabaoth will be playing at the Fire
Escape in Virginia Beach VA on Feb. 6, while on Feb. 5 will be starring in
a rockumentary video about music..
Amariah is a new hard rock/progressive metal band from Stafford VA who
will be playing Dec. 5 at Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Stafford and
at the Cave in Manassas VA on Fri Dec. 11 with Recluse Chant..
P.J. Bussey, ex-Taker and ex-Armageddon guitarist, has formed a new band
in the gothic/progressive metal vein, M.I.A., featuring ex-Corban bassist
Mike Watts.. M.I.A. will be playing on New Year's Eve with Recluse Chant
and Crown of Thorns, among possible other bands, at the Colonial Theater
in Fredericksburg VA..
The Elect, progressive metal band from Bowie MD, will be hosting a "Happy
Birthday Jesus" party on Fri Dec. 18 at the home of Anne Majors, guitarist
in Bowie. Email me for more information...
The Crucified will be releasing their upcoming and long awaited third
album in March/April 1993 at the very earliest, and look for a more
musically diverse Crucified, but still cool! Also look for upcoming
releases by year's end/early 1993 by Jesus Freaks, Guardian, Final
Prophecy, and Ritual (produced by VR's Roger Martinez)...
Mike Bailey, a guitarist from Sterling VA, has put together a new
neo-classical metal band with members of former bands in Boston and L.A...
Mike has also been officially endorsed by Mesa Boogie and Charvel guitars
and will have a name for his new band shortly.. Mike also informed me that
Oz Fox may have left Stryper already, thus ensuring the band's most likely
end..
Godhead will have a 7" on A.R.T. Records in January, and the label has
been talking to Precious Death, Drop Dead and Consecrator.. check out
Consecrator, among other bands including Sardonyx, Hot Pink Turtle and
dodavahu, on "Demolition" on R.E.X. Records.. two major record labels have
been talking to Recluse Chant, so hurry up and get their demo (in the
progressive speed/thrash vein).. email me for more info.. t-shirts are
also now available by Recluse Chant, Royal Anguish, and Final Judgement..

Getting on with the news and away from the recently stupid post on r.m.c.
(I'd like to thank the individual who posted that idiotic piece of junk..
we have something to talk about on my radio show Saturday night! Thanx
dude, we needed new material and this one's GOOOOOD!)...
The rumors are NOT true! King's X is NOT leaving their label, Atlantic,
nor is Atlantic dropping them.. it IS true, however, that King's X and
their longtime producer, Sam Taylor, have parted ways..
Oz Fox has reportedly left or will be leaving Stryper by the end of the
month, thus ensuring the band's demise... the end of an era for Christian
metal but the beginning of another one with new bands (and heavier ones,
thank God!) taking the mantle...
Die Happy will have a new album out in January, entitled "Volume II", and
expect that same brutal grunge/thrash as was found in their previous album
"Die Happy".. also coming out with new albums are Deliverance and
Tourniquet, both coming out with live studio releases in February.. there
has, however, been no word as to the release of any newer Sacred Warrior
material..
Godsent Humans are signed to New Breed Records (a division of FMG like
Intense Records) and their new album, "Liberty or Death", is due out in
January.. expect "gothic thrash"... hmm...
According to insiders, Recon has gone the direction of Seattle grunge a la
Applehead-meets-ragman, a complete departure from their old progressive
metal a la Queensyrche days..
Tickets for Cornerstone '93 are now on sale, though there has been no
official word as to who would be playing.. rumors lean toward Tourniquet,
Die Happy, Bride, Ordained Fate and Mortification... there is also a hot
rumor that Believer might be there!
Whitecross will be playing at PowerHouse in Euless TX (in the Dallas/Ft.
Worth area) on Friday, Dec. 11... also playing on Dec. 11 will be Amariah
and Recluse Chant, 2 local bands in the DC area (RC is being courted by 2
major labels, one of which is blonde but I won't say anything more!).. The
Brave will be in concert on Fri-Sat. Dec. 18-19 at the PowerHouse..
Redemption will reform at the end of this month when guitarist Scott
Hunstad returns to South Dakota from school in NY.. they are also talking
about recording a demo around New Year's.. they are a 5-piece power/brutal
metal band from SD...
New Year's Eve will be fun city in Fredericksburg VA at the Colonial
Theater when Recluse Chant, Crown of Thorns, M.I.A. (featuring ex-Taker
and ex-Armageddon guitarist P.J. Bussey) and others take the stage for an
all-evening musical assault to ring in the Year of Brutality: 1993..
They wore their Holy Soldier dog tags to the Persian Gulf in 1991, will
they be wearing them in Somalia? Write them and encourage them anyway!
Deathless is currently in the studio working on a new demo to be out early
'93.. they are a 5-piece speed metal band from Puerto Rico who recently
replaced their bassist...
Magdallan's Ken Tamplin's mug IS the mug you see on billboards in Los
Angeles! His likeness is used as an advertisement for a new music section
of the L.A. Times.. the other Magdallan dude, Lanny Cordola, has a new
solo album out, "of Riffs and Symphonies", featuring Greg and Matt
Bissonnette (David Lee Roth), soul/R&B singer Jon Gibson and House of
Lords singer James Christian..
globalWAVEsystem (betcha I didn't get this right anyway) will be releasing
their total hardcore industrial release on Blonde Vinyl in January.. look
for more posts from gWs members including cE!... they also promise a
harder-edge industrial release than new indies on the block - Under
Midnight, who wowed them at Cornerstone '92 along with new hardcore act

Well, I am halfway done typing up Screams of Abel Magazine on the Mac..
things are cool.. and I hope the guy who stole my hard disk loses all his
memory to an irreversible virus... Loving? Forgiving? Sure, but the
punishment is due..
Maybe I'm a bit touchy because one of the first bands I liked in Christian
heavy metal broke up recently.. I was the first to crack the story on
SACRED WARRIOR nearly 6 years ago when they were an unknown band with an
obscure demo "The Heavens Are Calling" and also on this tape-trading
compilation containing other ancient bands including TEMPEST and RAGE OF
ANGELS (note: for you trivia freaks, 2 of the members of ROA went to join
Steelheart).. but I digress.. I was working as a staff writer for Rizzen
Roxx Magazine and got this hot lead on a new band - Sacred Warrior.. they
said, "They sound like Queensryche" - naturally I said, "I got the
interview! Anybody else who gets it before me dies!" Since I got it first
(i.e., nobody died), I felt an accomplishment: I got Sacred Warrior
discovered.. oh well, they're gone now.. the drummer, Tony Velazquez, is
rumored to be joining Ohio glam rockers L.O.U.D...
Ok, now that I'm through lamenting.. (and watching 90% of Internet hit "n"
all at once)...
Congrats to THE CRUCIFIED drummer Jim Chaffin on becoming a daddy! He and
his wife Stacy had a bouncing baby... something! (Terry, what was it
again? Stop laughing).. scary thought that Jim would have a kid.. YEEEK!
I hope this is the last time I have to post this: There WILL be a Split 7"
after all with Maryland death metallers THE RISEN and Florida grindcore
band ROYAL ANGUISH... The Risen will have "Mortal Decay" while Royal
Anguish will have "Deny The Corpse".. the split 7" will be on A.R.T.
Records.. this is in response to earlier reports that there would be no
split EP and then no split 7" was planned...
Screams of Abel Magazine will be out shortly (anybody got a laser scanner?
heh) with interviews with MORTIFICATION, LIVING SACRIFICE, SEVENTH ANGEL,
DISCARNATED, FINAL JUDGEMENT and many more.. an in-depth look at the
phenomenon of death metal and of course, plenty of reviews.. for more

It's official!!! MORTIFICATION will be playing Cornerstone '93 this

including THE RISEN, RECLUSE CHANT, REDEMPTION, DROP DEAD, CONSECRATOR and
OVERDRIVE.. a hot rumor is that Dutch death metallers DECISION-D, now on
Nuclear Blast, may also play Cornerstone '93 and be joined by British doom
metallers SEVENTH ANGEL..

The News:
Prof. Brian Russ of the Univ of CA at San Diego compiled a list of Top
Metal Albums of 1992 from around the world.. and TOURNIQUET tied with
Danzig for "Pathogenic Ocular Dissonance" at #38 making top Christian
album.. other chart toppers included KING'S X at #53, LIVING SACRIFICE at
#62, BRIDE at #67, CIRCLE OF DUST at #74, DIE HAPPY at #83, VENI DOMINE at
#100, MORTIFICATION at #122, UNDER MIDNIGHT at #132 and DELIVERANCE and
SARDONYX tied at #138..
Randy Rose, drummer of MAD AT THE WORLD, has formed his own side band -
ROSE.. featuring heavier styles of music along the lines of Motorhead,
Danzig and Suicidal Tendencies.. their debut album "Healing" is now out in
stores on Intense Records..
Also coming out in stores soon on B.A.I. Records is the thrash group XL..
formerly a rap group, XL has changed their style to heavy rap and thrash,
like mixing Anthrax and Body Count.. XL's new album "Sodom and America",
will be out in March... also look for them on select tour spots with THE
CRUCIFIED..
DIG HAY ZOOSE will have a new album in March..
The old Florida pop metal band ARSENAL is back! With lineup changes but
retaining their singer Christine Steel, Arsenal has changed their sound to
more power metal a la Warlock and Sanctuary.. also the members are helping
out the new Sanctuary church in Tampa Bay, the one that sponsored that
concert with Obituary, Morbid Angel and FINAL PROPHECY.. last Halloween..
oh, and also look for a member of OVERDRIVE to be joining ARSENAL in the
near future..
FINAL JUDGEMENT will work on their debut album next week! Right after
releasing their second demo "Drastic Dose of Reality", bassist Todd Davis
informed me that the band will go into the studio next week to record
"Desolating Sacrilege" on Anastasia Records, a small indie label to be
distributed by R.E.X... their music is now described as a mix between
early Slayer and tribal drum rhythms.. weird!
Jon Reich of REDEMPTION updated me on the big SACRED WARRIOR "breakup"
mess.. according to "The Reich", Sacred Warrior had broken up some time
ago, for a while, but have reformed. He sat in on one of their practices
a week ago and they are excited about a possible tour of Germany coming up
in a few months, and plan to go into the studio after their German tour..
they have also a new bassist, Mike Gros.. and their sound is still the
same, a la Queensryche..

Well, folks, you can now send me mail.. my mailer works once again after
some bad file lunched it big time... I'd like to personally know why.
And on a real happy note: Screams of Abel (the real zine) #1 will be out
in March! Despite the fact that we have no front cover, back cover or an
available laser scanner until the publisher returns from Chicago..
** The News **
Well, here we go again.. a few weeks ago I posted about news I heard from
sources saying that SACRED WARRIOR broke up, however, finding out that the
band is indeed together and that they have a new bassist, formerly of the
band KEEPER.. well, here's Pt. 2! After a recent conversation last weekend
with Roger Martinez, VENGEANCE RISING has officially broken up!! Roger let
myself and Dave Kindervater of This Prophecy Magazine know that VR has
called it quits and that he's going into a new band that will be more
Seattle grunge-rock.. more details as they crop up (like who breaks up
next week! ARGH!)
Also in the news, the GALACTIC COWBOYS have announced their official split
with producer Sam Taylor, following KING'S X from last fall.. the Cowboys'
new album, "Space In Your Face", will be out April 13 on DGC Records..
On a MUCH happier note, San Diego death metallers RITUAL are getting a new
producer for their next demo due to complaints about the production on
"Crematorium of the Deceased".. they have also obtained their old bass
player back and a new guitarist, making them a 5-piece now, and their new
material "destroys their old stuff"...
New bands on the scene include a lot of death metal bands from around the
world! OBLATION is a new death band from Texas while CORPSE is a new death
band from Kentucky.. finally FLESHWALKER is a new (duh!) death metal band
from Australia working on their debut demo to be out in March..
DISCARNATED's debut release on CD will be out in March as well and can be
pre-ordered by writing and getting info from their band publicist Shade
at: Discarnated, c/o Shade, 16 Cumming St., Blackwood SA 5051 Australia..
Atlanta brutallers FINAL JUDGEMENT will have their debut album,
"Desolating Sacrilege", this spring on Anastasia Records (which will be
distributed in the Christian markets by R.E.X. Records).. bassist Todd
Davis informed me that their new sound will be early Slayer mixed with
"tribal drum rhythms"..
CATHERINE SPEED is a new brutal/weird band from Florida that features a
female vocalist/bassist named Jennifer.. the music is described as a cross
between Cannibal Corpse and White Zombie.. weird...
** Cornerstone '93 Update **
Some recent additions have been made to the Cornerstone '93 lineup! Aside
from BRIDE, GUARDIAN and REZ, there will be more heavy bands, according to
JPUSA/Cornerstone organizer Henry Huang, "a Metal Cornerstone"!!! Expect
to see BELIEVER, THE CRUCIFIED, TOURNIQUET, MORTIFICATION and just added..
DELIVERANCE and LIVING SACRIFICE... and also on the smaller stages expect
to see CONSECRATOR, DROP DEAD, FINAL JUDGEMENT, THE RISEN, PRECIOUS DEATH
and REDEMPTION.. Virginia progressive speedsters RECLUSE CHANT are also
planning to be there as well..
So, if you don't go, unless you can't afford it, you're a poser! Ok, I'll
be nice, you MIGHT be a poser!
** MARCH 3rd.. BELIEVER, "Dimensions" (although no word from REX) **
Speaking of LIVING SACRIFICE, it has been brought to my attention that
their new material is far heavier than even their latest album
"Nonexistent", in fact, DJ, bassist/vocalist, informed me that their
guitars and songs are now tuned down to B and his vocals are far lower,
along the lines of Morgoth/Suffocation.. also at Cornerstone '93 they will
have Rick Taylor, vocalist of THE RISEN, doing a duet with DJ on some
Living Sacrifice earlier songs including "No Grave Concern", on stage.. DJ
is also planning to fill in on the bass position current vacant in The
Risen at the Fest.. also, according to CIRCLE OF DUST and BRAINCHILD
frontman Scott Albert, a Living Sacrifice/Circle of Dust/Brainchild maxi
single will be available later this spring mixed and produced by Albert..
BRIDE will be in concert tomorrow (2/26) at Grace Church outside of
Fredericksburg VA, and Sat 2/27 at Potomac State College in Keyser WV..
local Virginia metal band CROWN OF THORNS will open for Bride at the
Fredericksburg show..
Scott Hunstad of REDEMPTION, when not with his band in South Dakota cuz
he's at RPI in NY, jams with another band called MORNING STAR that is hard
rock/metal sound.. Redemption will be recording their first demo later
this year and Jon Reich of Redemption let me know that it's along the
lines of HOLY SOLDIER..
Kyle David of SCARLET RAYNE has formed a new band, a funk/metal project
called SOULSCAPE.. they are still based in Wisconsin..
And finally, Delaware grunge/metal band RAGMAN has been making the
underground news! Lead singer Eric Hutts has recently obtained
distribution rights through major secular record companies and has formed
his own small label, Alphabet Records.. they also finally have a full
lineup and are planning some shows near Philadelphia in the near future..

Delays. I Hate Delays. They Suck!! Consequently REX Records let me know
the other day that BELIEVER's album, "Dimensions", has been delayed due to
distribution problems.. needless to mention I'm not happy. So
consequently I have nothing to listen to - I still don't have MENTAL
DESTRUCTION despite my writing Metal Cross Productions and their
distributor in San Francisco.. and the debut by BRAINCHILD is on CD and I
have only heard one song.. and that only leaves me with old tapes and the
new DIE HAPPY release "Volume II" (and it bites major league! You were
right, whoever said they sold out, they big-time sold out and I don't
understand how you can tune your guitars down to D and Still sound lighter!!)
I need music.
But on with the news..
ZTV is a new cable network out of all Christian music.. metal bands
featured on the first broadcast night included BRIDE, GUARDIAN and
NOVELLA.. ZTV started on 3/1/93...
Speaking of GUARDIAN, guitarist Tony Palacios will be joining his old band
once he finished his tour as guest guitarist for Michael W. Smith's band,
about the time for the band's new album due out this month (and argh! I
forgot the name of the album and cannot research in ftp due to the link
going bad or something - this ain't my night!)
RITUAL is currently on a compilation album put out by Relapse Records
entitled "From Heaven To Hell"... you can order the CD through your
Relapse Records order forms in most albums put out by guess who...
Dutch doom thrashers SCULPTURE will enter the studio the first week of
June for their 2nd release.. their current first release is "Enter The
Kingdom" and write to them at: Sculpture, c/o W. A. Nihot, P.O. Box 1039,
2410 CA Bodegraven The Netherlands..
Australian pop... sike.. brutal thrashers PARAMAECIUM will go into the
studio in April.. the release is called "Exhumed of the Earth", and it is
a follow-up to their debut, "Silent Carnage".. the band had broken up last
year when Andrew Tompkins wanted to form an alternative-progressive band.
However, Paramaecium has indeed reformed and will be recording new material...
ZADOK, the grindcore outfit from Puerto Rico, will be recording their
debut demo late April/early May..
Texas death metallers OBLATION have their old demo from early 1992
available.. any information on Oblation can be referred to James Rankin of
"Slaughtered Corpse" Magazine at: P.O. Box 999, Aledo, TX 76001.
THE TERMINAL GENERATION is a new band considered to be "post-industrial
funk death", and they are also known as "America's Scariest Band"... other
new bands include MIDNIGHT HOUR, a new Skid Row-style band from Omaha,
SERAPH, a hard rock/metal band from Memphis TN, and HOLY COUNTDOWN,
another hard rock band from Iowa.. also new on the scene include two new
death metal bands, APATHY, from Virginia Beach VA, and HEAR O ISRAEL, from
Colorado..

their new demo will be out this summer also, and congratulations to Roger
and guitarist Andy Koehler on getting wives for themselves!
Also congratulations to Indianapolis brutal band DROP DEAD for inking a
deal with Foundations 3000 Records.. this is the same label that such
bands as Gorefest are found...
Maryland hard rock band E.R. broke up recently with drummer Peter
Oestheimer joining another MD band THE ELECT..
Although BELIEVER's album may be delayed, other new albums expected to
come out are still in the works, including the 2nd by BETRAYAL, the 2nd by
DETRITUS, SEVENTH ANGEL's 3rd one and MORTIFICATION's 3rd one, and a maxi
single of LIVING SACRIFICE/CIRCLE OF DUST/BRAINCHILD by COD's Scott Albert..
