Pronounciation in Japanese is rather straightfoward.
Only the basics of pronounciation are presented here.
`i` sounds like the `ee` in 'reef'. 'e' is like the word `bed'.
'o' is pronounced like the word `toe'.   'a' sounds like 'Hah!!!'
'ki' is pronounced exactly like the English word 'key'.
`hai' is pronounced like the English word `high'.(HAH-EEE)
The word 'hon', which you will learn soon, rhymes with 'bone'.
Two vowels together, like in the word mashoo, are held longer.
Throughout this course please think ALOUD. In order to learn
to speak Japanese, you will need to say the words you learn.
In Japanese, like in English there are many ways to say hello.
At a first time meeting you will say 'ha-ji-meh-ma-shi-te'
This means 'it is the first time'.
At a formal meeting it is common to add 'dozo yoroshiku'.
This means 'please favor me'. 'Do desu ka' mean's 'how's it going?'
'Do desu ka' is pronounced 'dough-desk-a' in English.
'O-genki desu ka' means 'how is your health?'. A common answer is
'Genki desu' which means 'I am fine'.
The most appropriate way to refer to someone is by their family name.
Usually you will add the word -SAN to their last name.
