Here is is, gang.  The ultra-definitive Warp Drive Chart.  We got your TOS
scale, we got your TNG scale, we got your number of times the speed of light.
This is compiled from the TNG Writer's Technical Manual which (as I always
point out so that I sound legit) was written by Michael Okuda, Rick Sternbach,
and all the people from the TNG technical department.  It's not neccesarily
what they'll use on the show (it's a "guide," not etched in stone), but it's
the best guess anybody at TNG has at this point.

                   Velocity Formula:  V = (WF^X) C

Where V = velocity, WF = Warp Factor, C = the speed of light in a vacuum
(approximately 186,000 MPS or 300,000 KPS), and X = an exponent - what the
number is depends on which series you're doing.

For TOS, X = 3.

For TNG (warp 1 through 9), X = 10/3 or approximately 3.333.  Warp factors
above nine don't follow that pattern.  You or I can't calculate them (only
the guys at TNG know these for sure - and it's probably arbitrary as far as
they're concerned).

For WF 9.6, X = 3.34.  For WF 9.9, X = 3.5.  For WF 9.99, X = 3.9.  For WF
9.9999, X = 5.28.

           9.9999                57.543              190536.011
          10                       NA                 Infinite

You can't reach warp 10 on the TNG scale.  If you graphed it as velocity
versus warp factor, warp 10 would be a vertical asymptote.  Velocity would
extend infinitely but never reach warp 10.

Warp 9.6 is the highest rated speed of the Enterprise.  She'll do Warp 9.9
for ten minutes and then the engines will auto-shutdown.

Subspace radio propogates at warp 9.9999

In "Where No One Has Gone Before", the Traveller propelled the Enterprise at
Warp 9.9999999996 (this according to Mike Okuda on GEnie).
