I can get the lyrics, if you like, but they're not that special.

A fringe-science nut friend of mine says that the MIB claim to be govt,

but never carry any convincing ID.

The MIB are, like most interesting "secret stuff", unsubstantiated

fiction.

Don, do you have a file that contains the verbatum words(English translation)

of this document: "Protocols of the Wise Men of Zion"?

I was said the other day on the radio show by Tom Valentine's guest that

this document is possibly a very accurate blueprint for the course

of action since the late 1700s up to the present for many actions

leading to the "New World Order" being proported in connection with Bush's

association with a `Chapter 322' a Yale of '49, whatever that means?

Does this document spell out actions/methods and do they lead to a

Democratic Republic or Totalitarian form of One World Order when the

dust of reorganization settles?

I've looked in the law library on one or two occations and found

very serious referential E.O.'s suggesting very severe potentials

in the future that seem to follow a very subtle plan of action. Of

greater concern now than before is that it appears that America and

the world is being quided in that direction for 1992, an end with very

tight control at every level, out of the publics hands. I've never

seen the `New States Constitution' yet, but now I realy wounder if

it has any genuine public representation inclusions of merit? I

beleive it was produced by the `Center for Democratic Studies' in(?)

Santa Barbara, Calif. for a taxpayer cost of over $25,000,000.

Could a group of aliens, if they were around in the 1700s also,

have had some influence here in these Protocals also?

I would like to get/see the file on these Protocals if you have

a credible copy of that text. It seems too me that you might just

have a copy of this proported gameplan blueprint.

And if you have some deeper insight there, what might it be, if

you feel it appropriate to share, now that `Free Trade' is likely

around the corner, along with its many questionable effects on the

common man in the U.S., as regards his power to influence the running

of this country when he has next to no resources or is on the street?

Thanks for your previous post again, very interesting considerations

not likely overlooked by those with influence in world events.

THE TRUTH ABOUT MARS

INTRODUCTION

For centuries before spacecraft transformed our under- standing

of the solar system, almost all the planets were believed, with

varying degrees of conviction, to be inhabited. This belief conformed

to the Copernican world view, in which Earth is not unique among the

planets. When the Space Age opened in 1957, the evidence for

indigenous life was strongest for Mars - almost conclusive, on the

face of it - and from the beginning the search for life on Mars became

a major goal of the United States' Space Program. The result was the

historic series of spacecraft that began with MARINER 4, in 1965, and

ended with VIKINGS 1 & 2, in 1976.

The dawning of the Space Age is a material event, occurring in

the latter part of the 20th Century, and as the description that

follows is a result of a developed mental means of communication, it

strengthens the understanding of this means of communication as being

the real and more apparent factor in the transference of energy from

point to point.

Dr. Ernest L. Norman is the progenitor and a mental giant,

writing from the higher statement of a full consciousness of the

reality of the mind as a cosmic centrifuge. This is the first book

written by him in 1955, inaugurating the Unarius Academy of Science.

In this small but important book, a first, Dr. Norman extends the

present knowledge of life on our close companion planet Mars, which

has all of the basic biological and geological conditions for the

evolutionary development of life forms, including Homo sapiens. He

addresses mankind, not with the hardware of rocketry, space probes and

other sophisticated, high-energy technology, but introduces the

individual to not only the possibility or probability of life on other

planets, but in actuality, through the higher factors of the mind,

immediately taking the reader to planet Mars to reveal the enigma of

this planet. This enigma has been tantalizing the minds of humankind

for hundreds of years, that has occasioned a series of narrations over

the years, titillating the imagination of mankind throughout

civilizations up until the present time.

The importance of this booklet is that the mind, man's enigma,

can reveal the power existent, to apply in all ways necessary for the

progressive development of any individual so desirous of expanding the

central intelligence of himself in his relationship to the apparency

and to the vitality of society on this and other earth planets.

For this reason, Dr. Norman, as an Elder Brother, pointed the way

for aspiring mankind to overcome the limitations of his narrow

confinement in the material sectors of life, as is the present

pioneering efforts of our scientific community through the auspices of

the United States National Aeronautics & Space Administration.

The expository nature of Dr. Norman's description of the reality

of human life, living underground, is a vital teaching, not only of

the magnanimous nature of man in overcoming the limitations of his

material environment, but also of the reality of the interplanetary

life of Homo sapiens!

The data now being collated by the many thousands of computer-

enhanced images from the ZINC probes are validating the pre-history of

Mars as an integrated and formed world of an ancient civilization.

However, it will not be until Earth humans land on Mars that the

evidence of Martian society will be known and accepted. The computer-

enhanced image revealing a `face on Mars', is capturing the interest

of many people, including those in the scientific sector; a prelude to

the buildup of further hard data, revealing the evidence of the ruins

of ancient, advanced civilizations in the Cydonia region of Mars.

All of the precluding is the material evidence necessary for

those who do not have second sight or who have not developed the

mechanics of their third eye, with the reality of their sixth, seventh

and higher senses. But this should not deter anyone, and in fact, is

the objective of this writing, to wake up the reader to his unlimited

capacity in that he too, can communicate through his sixth and higher

senses. This so-called `telepathy' a principle of frequency and

harmonics, will reveal to him the evidence of the evolutionary design

of life on companion earth planets.

The exploration of Mars is in this sense, the first phase of

reawakening mankind to the reality of the expanding universe, right in

his own backyard, in his own solar system. The reality is that earth

planets are abundant in our Milky Way Galaxy. The reality is that man

has communicated via spacecraft and is continuing to communicate with

the denizens of this planet through telecommunication or mental means,

-the normal methods of communication of advanced Space Brothers.

With all of this, of course, is the other reality! Present Earth

history has not revealed the true story of man's past, and the reasons

why technology has outdistanced the knowledge of man's humanity to his

fellowman and of his creative spirituality.

You will therefore read in this booklet that the Martian people

are wiser in their knowledge of their inherent human nature and

practice this cosmic principle in their society. War is not a factor

to disrupt their peaceful existence, and science and technology

functions equally balanced with man's spiritual coefficient.

The picture that emerges is of earthman beginning to realize that

he has the capacity to leave his nest, to move out into the stars and

regain his lost heritage, the birthright which has always been the

objective and purpose for his being. Essentially, life's purpose is to

advance one's knowledge of the principle of evolution, to integrate

these evolutionary principles, using both the material technology and

the spiritual technology, thus advancing both man and society on an

upward and intelligent, progressive evolution.

Dr. Ernest L. Norman is the Cofounder of the Unarius Educational

Foundation. From 1954 to 1971, with his wife, Ruth Norman, he

pioneered the teaching of Interdimensional Physics, explaining the

evolutionary nature of atoms and man, planets and solar systems,

galaxies and universes. He authored the first twenty texts of the

curriculum of the Unarius Academy of Science - teachings which explain

the unified field theory - quantum mechanics, and the present theory

of Superstrings!

Dr. Norman as one who has attained Cosmic Consciousness, is an

example of his teachings. Today, through the efforts of Ruth Norman

(Uriel) the present Director of the Unarius Academy of Science, the

curriculum has expanded to over 100 texts, adding immense knowledge to

the reality of Consciousness and of its continuity after the

completion of the cycle of physical life (or death).

The account of Dr. Norman's psychic trip to Mars proves the

science of fourth dimensional physics - the principle of mental

attunement. It is hoped that the reader will continue in his desire to

advance himself as well, to attain those abilities that lie within but

needs to be called to his attention and developed.

A Word About the Author

Just fifty years ago in a small town in northern Utah, Ernest L.

Norman made his debut into this planet Earth. It was apparent right

from the first that he was an unusual child. His mother nearly died in

the process of his introduction, because of the abnormally large head.

It is said he had the body of an eight pound child, but weighed over

twelve pounds!

Before he was hardly two, he was experimenting with writing and

long before he went to school for the first time, he was quite

familiar with the English language; so much so, he was reading his

father's Library. His father, incidentally, was a very learned man, of

royal Norwegian descent and had degrees in law, psychology, physiology

and phrenology.

The author was the fifth of eight boys and girls, all strong lads

and lassies and it was quite natural for them to resent having a

brother who was so studious.

At the tender age of five he constructed his first microscope

using the eyepiece section from his father's telescope, and by

inserting it in a wooden frame made from a cigar box and a small piece

of mirror, he was able to count the hairs on earthworms. The Truth

About Mars

At the age of six he performed an unusual and prodigious feat.

Using his knowledge of Archimedean laws of fulcrums, levers and

rollers, he moved an 8 x 12 foot coal shed containing one-half a ton

of coal over a distance of approximately 200 feet, through an apple

orchard and over soft ground to a new and more convenient location.

This feat took him about three weeks to accomplish and was one which

would have taxed the strength and endurance of a strong man. This

accomplishment was carefully noted day by day, by his father who would

boastingly report the progress made to the townspeople.

It was also at this early period of life, that he constructed a

rabbit hutch which was vastly superior in design and workmanship to

one constructed by an adult neighbor more than six times his age. This

he did, using old rusted out, discarded tools.

Another time, at the age of seven, he bested his father in an

argument i.e., that all energy was electronic. At present he is

completely vindicated inasmuch as science today is resolving into this

conclusion.

During his early teens-age years in junior and senior high

school, he established several new "high water" marks in biology,

genetics, science, etc., and won several noteworthy citations as well

as attracting some interest from his teachers.

It is estimated that at the age of fourteen, he had a vocabulary

of about sixty thousand words! It was easy to see then, that this boy,

who in winter time read almost continuously or dreamed the summer away

watching nature, had not wasted or played his time away as most lads

are wont to do.

At the age of seventeen, his family moved to California and

temporarily, at least, formal school was finished. But he persisted,

even taking night classes in various subjects. At the age of twenty-

three, and just before the depression, he married and remained so for

fourteen years.

During this time, he became very active in radio and electronics.

It was his wife who always said they had the best radios in the

neighborhood and they were always hand constructed.

After World War Two, he devoted himself to his lifetime dream,

metaphysics, and became an ordained minister in an occult science

church. From the very start, in this work, it became evident he

possessed an outstanding clairvoyant development and, during the war

years, demonstrated this talent not only in churches and lecture

halls, but in almost any place opportunity presented itself and

achieved no small measure of fame in this capacity.

However, it is his ambition at this time and has been for many

years, to fill in the gaps in our scientific and spiritual

philosophies of the world, and to set up a new and integrated

philosophy of life.

With this most outstanding ability of clairvoyance, coupled with

a tremendous grasp of scientific knowledge, he is very humble and

unpretentious, refusing to attach the stigma of self to whatever comes

through the channel of his mind and is ever aware of attunement with

the Superconscious.

On the forehead of the author is a large welt, in a perfect

raised circle. This becomes activated at times when he is inspired or

attuned, as though it is a necessary factor in making contact,

mentally, with the intelligences of other dimensions or on other

planets. Another strange phenomenon is the nail holes in the palms of

his hands, which appeared physically during a psychic working out with

his previous life in Jerusalem and the crucifixion and are most surely

points of great interest in showing that he is indeed a most unusual

soul, mentally and spiritually and has reached a very rare, if ever

duplicated, state of consciousness through his countless thousands of

lifetimes of endeavor in these fields.

Many very miraculous healings have come through Dr. Norman. His

conscious mind is able to contact the Superconscious which can tune

into the past experiences and past lives of the individuals to

actually locate and view the experience in a former life which is

responsible for the present illness; thus being able to eliminate or

neutralize the impinging vortex from the psychic body of the

individual by mental and spiritual means. Many wonderful healings and

permanent cures have thusly been achieved.

The Spiritual Science of Unarius which is used is not one of

happenstance or guesswork but his ability to tap, in a scientific way,

the energies of the Infinite. Just so surely, those same powers and

energies are ever present to keep us well, vital and at peace when we

align ourselves into them.

PREFACE

A few months ago the astronomical and astrophysical world was

tremendously excited by the approaching conjunction of the earth with

the planet. Mars. (This article being written in May, 1955, refers to

the conjunction of Mars with the earth at the turn of the year 1954 to

1955). Many prominent astronomical authorities hoped to settle once

and for all time, the old controversial issues about this planet;

i.e., were there canals or were there not canals on Mars and was this

planet inhabited by some form of man, So far as can be ascertained,

the results of these investigations, after thousands of photographs of

the planet and numerous controversies, was that some groups were even

more firmly intrenched in their original ideas, while others became

more confused than ever. In an over-all sense, it can be said that

they arrived at no definite conclusion whatever nor will any new

conclusions that may be arrived at have, by the same token, any more

validity than the original concepts (see addenda).

Therefore any new attempt at visualizing life or the canals on

Mars resolves into the realm of clairvoyance and not by the making of

bigger and more powerful telescopes. The two hundred inch telescope at

Mt. Palomar has, in a sense, merely increased the size of the Universe

for man rather than brought it closer to him. Now, just in case the

term clairvoyant should arouse any antagonism or question in some

persons, let us digress a moment to explain just what is meant by the

word clairvoyance.

Clairvoyance (or the development of the sixth sense) is only

another word for extrasensory perception taking place within the

consciousness of man rather than through the reactionary physical

senses such as physical sight, hearing, smell, touch and taste.

Practically everyone on this earth has had or will, at some time, be

in a semi or momentarily clairvoyant state. Anyone having a so-called

hunch or premonition is momentarily in such a state. At the great Duke

University, Dr. Rhine, in his fifty years of research on

parapsychology has definitely established the facts and truths of

extrasensory perception. There are numerous societies, associations

and organizations, national and international, whose many years of

work have proven beyond a doubt that man does have, and can also

develop, this extra sense or clairvoyance, sometimes called the sixth

sense.

Any doubting Thomas can, if he is open minded enough, find in a

short time, an overwhelming mass of evidence to support this truth. In

an advanced state of clairvoyance, an individual sees and lives in a

state of consciousness which "tunes" him in, as it were, to past or

future events, places and happenings, distance being no barrier. Such

an awareness or consciousness is almost as real as the everyday

objects around him. Any particular electrical or mechanical device,

such as the television set will demonstrate to some extent the nature

of this conception.

A savage in the jungle would immediately be confounded were he

presented with the appearance of some of our every day appliances. He

would quite likely, in his failure to understand or conceive, throw up

his hands and deny the whole thing. He would, in a sense, be like the

farmer who saw the giraffe for the first time, exclaiming that ``there

is no such animal!"

It is, as it has always been, the great lack of ability to form

new concepts which has always caused man to throw up his hands, and

cry out loudly against the appearance of any new thought, or

mechanical or electrical contrivance. This is also quite true of most

of our modern day scientists, whether he is a man of medicine, of

chemistry or of astronomy. Therefore it is up to individuals who have

developed this extra sense or clairvoyance, to fill in the obvious

gaps in our many branches of science as well as in some of the more

firmly established spiritual concepts.

In writing an article of this kind, no effort is being made to

prove what I have found and believe is true. Truth is entirely

independent of the individual. After my thirty five years of active

research in the fields of electronics, physics, astrophysics,

parapsychology and their allied and associated sciences, I have

succeeded in correlating and establishing an integrated concept, which

when combined with a natural and highly developed clairvoyance gives,

to a practically perfect degree, a direct mental contact not only with

person to person upon this earth, but in contacting individuals living

on other planets. This is in a sense, what can be called conscious

astral flight; inasmuch as I see the cities and the people and hear

the individuals, as they now exist on other planets. No mechanical

devices are used, nor is any particularly advanced degree of trance

state entered into, maintaining conscious continuity and being able to

quote at the time, just what is taking place both audibly and visibly,

at all times.

CONTACT WITH PLANET MARS

Since the dawn of time and the beginning of man's history on this

planet, the starry skies have always been something of not only great

and wondrous beauty, but also filled with mystery and awe. The

histories of the ancient times contain numerous references to the sun,

the moon and the many bright stars and planets. Man has worshipped

these heavenly bodies as deities or gods. Quite often the very nature

of the religious beliefs of the peoples were woven around these

mystical heavenly orbs. Naturally there has been a great deal of

conjecture as to life and the existence of man in some form on some of

these bright specks of light. This `is especially true of the moon and

of the planets of our solar system. Men like Copernicus, Galileo,

Plato, etc., all speculated on this possibility.

During the last twenty-five years or so, there has been a

tremendous impetus given to astronomical interests; perhaps this is

partly due to the approach of the conclusion of a great cycle and the

actual beginning of the Aquarian age. There are numerous monthly

publications which deal in a fictional way with interplanetary travel

and life on other planets. There likewise are other articles and

stories which have appeared from time to time dealing with flying

saucers and space ships, etc., which claim to be true, and as a small

lad I shared this common interest in the heavens. Often I would peer

through my father's telescope (which was of very modest power) at the

moon or other bright points of interest; winter nights would often be

devoted to pouring over any book or article containing anything of

astronomical nature.

It was not, however, until the close of World War II and the

sudden influx of flying saucer stories, that time and circumstances

permitted resuming this fascinating subject. Along with

metaphysical work which I did both in churches and independently, the

planets, space travel, etc., all became an integrated part of this

work.

It was inevitable that sooner or later I should actually take a

"flight" to some planet, not that this would be done in a rocket or

some such machine; man has not progressed to such an advanced state of

engineering as yet. So any such trips would be in a clairvoyant state.

I am not the only one by far, who has had such experiences; the

persons both known and unknown who have made such flights and contacts

are too numerous to mention at this time. I might add that much of

what is written in the following pages has since been corroborated by

some of these persons, without my previously having read any articles

so written by them.

It has been my consistent habit to spend an hour or so of the

late evening time in meditation. During these hours I have made

innumerable contacts with those who have passed from this plane of

existence. However no serious attempt at interplanetary contact was

tried until the second month of the year of 1955. At that time I began

to be increasingly aware that something like this was being attempted

by the peoples of other planets. One evening, about the first part of

May, of this year, while in a deep meditative state, I suddenly

perceived a rather strange looking man standing before me. At first I

thought him to be Chinese, as his dress arid general appearance was

somewhat similar to that of a man of ancient China. After introducing

himself as Nur El, however, he quickly explained he was from the

planet Mars, and that if I so desired, I could go there with him, to

his city (in astral flight) and that he would be my personal guide. He

explained that his people were very desirous in view of all the

controversy going on, to clear up some of the so-called mysteries of

Mars. He further assured me that it was quite obvious that a complete

understanding was not possible in one visitation; therefore as the

first contact was made, it would be comparatively easy to establish

other contacts, as was convenient and necessary. Since this first

contact and trip was made, I have returned on several occasions; in

fact, Nur El often stood beside me as I wrote, to further clear up, or

refresh my memory regarding any details which were not entirely clear.

Now I will contact my Martian guide and take an astral flight

through space, and see just how it is that man lives on the red

planet. Almost immediately a very distinguished looking man stands

before me; he is Nur El, a man of high position and esteem from one of

the Martian cities. He is dressed in a very brilliant red suit. The

coat is long, almost to the knees, with loose fitting pantiloons. On

his head is a red hat with a square shaped brim that is turned up on

four sides.

Our trip there is a matter of split seconds as no craft is used

or needed. Arriving on the surface of Mars, we are at once aware of

the extremely rugged terrain, rocky hills and sandy wastes, that

stretches out endlessly around us. There are many peculiar whirling

dust clouds all about. Nur El explains that the ionosphere is very

thin which leaves the surface almost unprotected from the various

beta, gamma and cosmic rays. This high concentration of rays ionizes

the very rare and gaseous atmosphere and together with the thermal

currents, creates terrific dust storms. There is also a very thinly

divided dust layer on the ionosphere which helps create the reddish

appearance of the planet. There are also a number of volcanos, three

of which are of major size; one of these was just barely visible on

the horizon trailing a thin wisp of smoke from its truncated cone. It

was also explained that as Mars has only seven degrees axis

inclination there is not much of a seasonal change. Water is very

scarce on this arid planet; most of the precipitation falls at the

poles. Vegetation is also scarce. There are a few varieties of

prickly-cacti looking plants. Also near the polar ice caps, grows a

very luxuriant green alga-like plant that follows the melting snow

line. This spongy growth often attains a height (or depth) of forty to

fifty feet. It appears and disappears with the season as it grows

tremendously rapidly, and it also disintegrates very fast.

There are also a number of species of lizards, reptiles and of

some insects whose hard shells have enabled them to weather the

extreme atmospheric conditions and among them are giant ants which

walk semi-erect on the two hind feet. The guide tells me these are

mutants which were accidently produced from a small ant in an atomic

experiment ages ago. They are similar to humans in a very low state of

intelligence and at one time it became necessary to make war on them,

as they became so numerous and large. These strange ant creatures

average two to four feet in height and live in rocky caves. But we did

not tarry long on the surface I followed my guide to a rather strange

looking rock. Then, taking a small whistle from his coat pocket, he

blew one note and although I heard nothing, the rock immediately swung

open disclosing a car-like elevator. We entered and, after the door

closed, I had the familiar dropping sensation of our own modern

elevators. The trip down took but a few seconds, and, upon stopping, I

stepped forth into what was my first glimpse of a Martian city.

I was immediately impressed by the soft white light that seemed

to come from everywhere. We were standing near the entrance of a large

tube. On Mars the cities are all underground and are connected

together by huge oval metal tubes from three to five hundred feet in

diameter. There are monorail cars as long as our pullman trains which

glide silently and very swiftly from one city to another. The bottoms

of these immense tubes are used for parks, growing foodstuffs and

innumerable small manufacturing plants.

Because of the great distances between the cities, these tubes

have been built only partially submerged. There are emergency air

locks and bulkheads at the ends where they connect to the domes; other

safety and precautionary measures areused to protect the cities and

tunnels in case of breakdowns or outside attack. It is these tubes

which have confused the astronomers on the earth. Some believe them to

be canals. There are also other theories. The shifting desert sands

often cover or uncover them which leads to further confusion inasmuch

as they seem to appeal' and disappear.

Turning about and looking down into the city is an unforgettable

experience. Like all cities on Mars, it is built on the floor of a

huge metal dome. These domes are sometimes four or five miles in

diameter, and up to three thousand feet high. They are constructed of

huge curved trusses of a whitish metal, seemingly of a magnesium

compound. These trusses are covered with a metal top and bottom and

the space in between filled with a plastic foam similar to the

construction of the houses. This also gives added protection from the

various cosmic rays as well as sealing in the precious air supply.

Underneath the roof is an inner shell or a second false shell which is

composed of sheets of pale blue plastic. This is suspended from

brackets from the dome at a distance of about six feet; in this space

are the many thousands of fluorescent tubes which make up the lighting

system and they reflect downward the soft radiant light which I first

noticed. I was told this light is very similar to a modified sunlight,

and is very healthful and stimulating to plant life, as well as to the

people. As these domes are built in the bottom of excavations, the

sands soon drift over them and cover them up, giving added protection

from the strong surface rays.

The Underground Cities

of Mars

The cities are laid out like a wheel. The center hub is a very

large circular structure which houses the various municipal and civic

governmental departments. Underground is a very large atomic power

plant for supplying the cities' needs. The streets stretch away from

the hub like spokes, and at regular intervals circular streets are

intersected; this is similar to our national capital. The streets

which radiate from the hub rise at a very gentle rate of inclination.

The houses and other buildings are built on low elevations which rise

like tiers. `Walking up one of these streets gives one the impression

of walking on air, as the paving is of a springy plastic material in a

very soft shade of green. Stopping to inspect some of the houses, I am

nearly overwhelmed by their wondrous beauty, simplicity and charm. In

every small, vacant space in the streets and grounds around the houses

are growing plants. These are mostly fruits and vegetables. They are

planted in metal troughs and other containers. The soil is a mixture

of natural and artificial plant humus and moss. The houses and

buildings are semi-prefabricated in a wide variety of plastic of

pastel shades. The walls are formed of two sheets of thin plastic

about two inches apart. After the walls are fastened together, a

liquid foam like plastic material is injected or blown in between the

walls. After this hardens, it gives the whole structure tremendous

strength. This hardened plastic foam acts also as a good insulator.

There is no problem of heat or cold in a Martian city, with an

abundance of atomic power. The whole city is air conditioned, free

from dust and fumes, and is maintained at a constant temperature of

about 68 degrees. Huge electronic pumps suck in and filter the thin

outside air and raise the pressure to about seven pounds per square

inch. It also strengthens the overhead dome structure by pushing out

uniformly at all points simultaneously.

As the outside atmosphere is very rare and of a low oxygen

content, the Martian cities are becoming less and less dependent on

that source of air supply. Many thousands of years ago they learned

how to obtain air from water by electrolysis. They also make a great

effort to create great underground reservoirs near the ice caps to

drain off and store any surplus surface water which also, along with

the oxygen, has become increasingly rare through the centuries.

At the present time, scientists on Mars are learning to make air

and water synthetically out of other elements. They have also explored

every possible existing subterranean river or lake and have added much

to the dwindling water supply by some important discoveries. It is

estimated that, with careful conservation, they will have enough water

for several thousand years, during which time other means will have

been arrived at for solving this problem.

All buildings are supplied with electric power from the central

power plant. The power is radiated over ultra high frequency beams

which crisscross the streets, and are relayed by smaller substations.

On top of each building is a split ball-like antenna which intercepts

these power beams, bringing power down onto a small secondary radiator

which in turn radiates the power through the building, lighting the

lights, operating the various motors, etc. These are, of course, all

constructed very differently than the motors and electric lights on

earth, which are large, clumsy and very inefficient by comparison.

Window glass is a polarized material which transmits light one

way, from outside in, which gives privacy without the problem of shade

and drapes. A simple metal folding shutter is sometimes drawn across

the window to shut out the light when sleeping, etc. Furniture in the

home is very simple and is contoured to the body and is made of metal

and plastic. The houses are not overly furnished as are so many of

earth homes, yet there is sufficient for comfort in a simple fashion.

Rugs are a plastic foam-like material which is springy and resilient

with no dusty nap. Various colors are used and slightly raised designs

which give variety and charm to the lovely over-all appearance. The

kitchens would be a delight to the earth woman; all cooking is done in

an oven which is built in a wall cabinet. The oven is operated on high

frequencies which cook all foods in a matter of a very few minutes,

or, in most cases only a few seconds. After dinner, the dish-washing

is a very quick and simple process. The dishes are placed in a metal

cabinet, a dial set, and after a few minutes all are clean and

sparkling; no water is used. Instead, streams of electronic energy of

some sort does the job. The dishes are made of a plastic like material

which is repellent to soil.

The bathroom is also quite different. The stool appears or

disappears in the wall as needed. Disposal is efficiently taken care

of by electrolysis. Very little water apparently is used. Bathing is

done in a small booth where an atomized spray of pleasant smelling

liquid is sprayed on the body and wiped off with a very absorbent

towel. Here also, no water is used. There is also some kind of energy

ray used which stimulates and leaves the body very refreshed. Teeth

are cleaned with a sort of electronic brush which is a metal rod on a

handle. Moving it around the teeth directs a flow of energy which

cleans and stimulates the teeth and gums. I Very little of the

normally expected house cleaning is done in a Martian home; all

interior surfaces are dirt repellent and, as the air is normally very

clean and inasmuch as there is no smoking, frying or similar soot

producers, the homes are very clean and spotless.

Mounting a flight of stairs to the roof, we emerge onto a

typical Martian garden. The roofs of these homes are flat and planted

with a wide variety of fruits, vegetables and flowers. Each home

grows quite a lot of the normal supply of foodstuff it consumes. They

take great pride in these roof gardens and frequently engage in

friendly competition in contests between neighbors in an attempt to

raise the most beautiful displays of horticulture.

Now I understood why the streets slanted up and the lack of

stores and commercial buildings, for here stretched out before me was

a huge shopping center, which in some odd way reminded me of one of

our annual state fairs. Up and down and around were streets and

aisles with shops and booths displaying the many articles of clothing

and food familiar to the Martian way of life. There was however,

noticeable differences: little or no advertising was used, the shop

owner sat or stood quietly by or worked on various articles he (or

she) sold. A quaint system of barter and exchange is generally

prevalent although some form of script, currency similar to a

department store charge-a-plate, is also used. Martians are

inherently honest; stealing is almost unknown. Consequently there is

no need to accumulate more than is needed, for they do not have the

fear of insecurity. There is no price haggling over various

transactions. Some sections have mechanical automat-like dispensers

in which a keyed charge-a-plate is inserted and withdrawn after the

article is discharged. Another curious feature of these market places

are the escalator sidewalks; on several of the main thorofares were

double tracks, one coming and one going, with a small bench-like

seat to sit on. A person merely stepped on, sat down and was moved

slowly up and down in front of the various stalls or shops.

Everywhere I turned to look I saw happy, smiling faces with none of

that taut, drawn look that is so prevalent in our cities. In between

these market centers, much space is devoted to the cultivation of

various crops, one of which is a grain very similar to millet. There

is also a species of rice which grows with very little moisture. It

seems that many of these plant crops have been evolved through a

Luther Burbank- like process to a point where they require the

absolute minimum of water.

No heavy manufacturing is done in these cities, but there are

several domes which are devoted to, and used almost exclusively for,

this type of work. But time was slipping by, and reluctantly I

followed my guide to another elevator and we ascended back to the

main level.

As we walked along one of the streets I could not help but feel

overawed by the beauty of all the things around me: the lovely homes

and roof gardens, the landscaped parkways growing lush with fruits

and flowers, the peace and quiet which was everywhere. I looked

curiously at some of those who were passing by, although I do not

believe they could see me in my astral state; at least if they did

so, they gave no indication that they were being rudely stared at,

and I assumed their smiles and greetings were meant for Nur El. I

did not see any indication of the use of any cosmetics on the women's

faces. Their eyes were quite large and black with a distinct slant,

the skin was wax-like and beautifully colored, lips red and well

shaped, which in all left nothing to be desired in any external

adornment.

There are other things which were noticeable by their absence':

there is no smoking, the use of tobacco being unheard of. Nur el

chuckled when I asked about this, stating that such a practice was

grown up thumb sucking and was a habit belonging only to those who

were not completely weaned. The drinking of alcoholic beverages is

also unknown. The people of Mars are smaller than those on earth,

only averaging about four feet six inches in height. They are

somewhat Mongolian in appearance. The texture of the skin is very

fine and soft, while the hair is usually straight, black, and quite

fine. The men do not need to shave for they have eradicated

electronically, the growth of hair from their faces when still young.

The Martians are a quiet peace-loving people. Their clothing is

simple with long loose flowing lines, with nothing to bind them, in

many brilliant colors including many shades we know not. All clothing

is made of synthetic materials as no natural fibers are grown.

THE MARTIAN - CHINESE LINK

Martians are much older in soul-evolution than the earthians.

They originally migrated in space craft to Mars from a dying planet

more than a million years ago. They also came to this earth and

started a colony but found it impractical to maintain. It was also

explained by Nur El that this colony became our Chinese race through

the evolution of time.

The great space-ships in their intercourse with the planet Mars

established a series of six colonies, stretching from the lower

planes of China into the more northern reaches, around what is now

known as Peking in the northern provinces of China. There was in

existence at that time descendents of the Aryan race who lived as

Mongols or Tartars, as they are called in your history books. These

were mostly very fierce roving bands of nomads, who now roam the

desert regions of the Gobi Desert. It is with these races of people

that the original Martian settlers had so much trouble. The people

from Mars had progressed to the point where they disliked intensely

to kill their fellow being; and while they had weapons which could

thoroughly and completely decimate these nomadic tribes, yet they

refrained from doing so! They relied more upon the evolution of

time, as would be of such circumstance that these tribes would absorb

some of the wisdom and knowledge. However, this was not so; in the

numerous raids which they made upon these settlements, they

frequently captured both male and female prisoners; and as the

females bore children to these Mongols and Tartars, the Martian

colonists became somewhat infused into the racial characteristics of

these people. However, for the most part, the various dynasties of

the Chinese Empire can be traced directly back to the Martian line.

Cancer and many other so-called incurable diseases are removed

or corrected using an advanced electronic healing process. It was

also explained, that in all cases, the patient was given a psychic

diagnosis which correctly locates the true originating cause, as a

psychic pressure or shock, incurred in either the present life or in

some previous lifetime. (Extended psychosomatics). Mental disorders,

while rare, yield quickly to this treatment which quickly removes or

rectifies these malformed vortices, or thought wave patterns which

have been incurred in the subconscious or psychic body. There are no

jails or prisons; crime is considered a mental disorder and treated

thusly. Such treatment is kept secret and not exploited as we do,

therefore there is no deflation of the ego. There is no pain or shock

or lengthy doctoring. Usually the patient is home in a matter of

hours. . . . Passing through this laboratory the guide went further

into the problems of birth control and sex. He stated that children

are limited to usually, two to a family so as to prevent overcrowding

and a lessening of an advanced family relationship. The ratio of

births usually determined by the death rate average. Sex relations

are very sacred and considered a great creative gift. There are none

of the usual sexual stimulants such as advertising, spiced heavy

foods etc., which tend to overexcite the people of earth.

Consequently, sex assumes its rightful place in the life of the

Martians.

These people have a basic spiritual concept which teaches them

from birth, the importance of love of one another and finding their

greatest joys of life in doing for each other, not doing each other.

I did not see any of our familiar churches and steeples; it was

explained to me that there are none. Worship is not a pagan-like

bowing down to some mythical god (or gods), but a twice daily

observance to the Great Infinite Creative Source, and there is a once

weekly community observance giving thanks to this Source.

Other Spiritual aspects of Martian life include communications

with those who have passed into the spirit world; in fact, every

Martian considers his spirit friends and relatives a part of his

daily life. No doubt our Chinese have derived their ancestor worship

from this source.

The Martians have also developed reincarnation to a point where

it forms an integral part of their lives; they plan for a future time

when they will relive a new life among old friends and relatives.

Many children frequently identify themselves as former loved ones.

Martian Education

Soon after the birth of a child, all the potential mental

faculties and quotients were determined by an electronic diagnosis

and any criminal or negative characteristics were removed by a

radiant energy process. The child was further conditioned against

such recurrence. There are no public schools.

The child is taught to a large extent in his sleep by a "Z-ray"

which imparts the lessons or knowledge directly into his subconscious

mind. This ray can be likened somewhat to a radio frequency which

carries the spoken word yet is inaudible to the ear; in this case

however, it is received and stored for use in the child's mind.

Usually a child will have the equivalent to a college education by

the time he has reached the age of ten. Such schooling is done to

bring out the best points of character and to especially train him in

whatever vocation he is best suited for.

As I listened to the soft accented voice of my Martian friend,

my mind inadvertently began to recall and compare scenes of my earth

life with the simple quiet way I was just beginning to glimpse and

understand. Things like the roaring streets and highways, the stench

and smell of thousands of cars, of hate and greed and avarice. Nur El

caught my thoughts and for a moment stopped speaking. A slow smile

lifted the corners of his mouth and his eyes began to twinkle. "No,"

he said, "these people would not migrate to the earth. First they

would have to become accustomed to the difference in air pressure,

and if this were done suddenly it might be very dangerous, like a

diver going down beneath the water too quickly. " He paused a moment

then continued, "Then there would be deadly disease germs and the

many viruses that we here on Mars, not having had such things for

thousands of years, have lost our resistance to."

I could see his point but I wondered a bit as to how they knew

so much about the earth, but patiently he explained that there were

semi-surface observatories with electronic telescopes as well as a

variety of radio and radar-like devices which gave them a very good

idea of what went on there. Besides some of the more advanced

scientists were masters at astral flight. Even an ordinary citizen of

Mars was quite adept at mental telepathy and this type of

communication was used as much as speech.

Going back into the ring shaped building, we emerged into what

were some of the chambers used for judging or administrative phases.

The government is of a very simple form. I was amazed when told there

are no written laws. Each citizen lives under a simple understanding,

of unwritten code. It was a very reasonable facsimile, if not the

actual golden rule. In other words, do for others first. If a person

acts selfishly, or begins to steal or shows symptoms of anger, he is

considered ill and treatment is quickly administered. Each five

families have a group leader or "Icla," as he is called. He

represents this group and is responsible for their general welfare.

The judges or heads of different departments are chosen on their

merit and it is usually done through elimination, examinations which

require a lifetime of special training. There are no political

systems. Brains and character alone determine a candidate's fitness

for an office. Male and female are regarded as equal and with no

discrimination shown. There are no old age institutions in these

Martian cities. Great respect is shown the aged and they live with

their children until the time of passing. No doubt the Chinese on the

earth brought this custom of respect and veneration down through the

ages from their Martian ancestors.

Another thing that did impress me was the wide variety of

pictures and objects of art which were everywhere. These people are

exceedingly artistic and almost everyone spends some time at his

particular chosen expression decorating screens, ceramics, furniture,

etc; all were given some treatment whenever opportunity presented. It

was all in very good taste, however, and most pleasing to the eye.

These traits are quite evident in our modern Chinese.

Monorail Transportation

Going through several of these offices we again emerged into the

open air. Before us was one of the larger radial streets; coming down

this street was what looked like a silver gondola of some sort,

suspended from an overhead rail. Going closer to examine this strange

craft, I found that it was about twenty feet long.It had six or eight

bucket-like seats. There is a rather elaborate system of control

used. All is done, of course, electronically. There is an `eye' on

each end to keep it spaced a reasonable distance from other cars.

Gyroscopes are used to prevent sway and it is powered by a motor in

each flanged wheel which rides a single rail, suspended at short

intervals by metal standards. These cars are stopped with a single

blast of a noiseless supersonic whistle and started after the

passengers sit down. A number of the main radial streets have this

monorail shuttle car system. Others used moving sidewalks, somewhat

similar to escalators.

It seems that these people do not travel much, as compared to

our earth people. There is, of course, considerable inner-city travel

over the monorail car system which I saw in the tube. There is

however, a kind of communication which renders a great deal of travel

unnecessary. This is a form of telephone, or teleview as it could

more properly be called. Besides conversing, each party can see the

other one through a small screen similar to our television. This of

course, can be shut off by manipulating a button, in the event there

is a need for privacy. Speaking of television, their system is far

more advanced than ours; the screen is built into the wall of the

room and is about four by five foot square. All programs are in three

dimensional color, very lifelike and natural. Such programs are, of

course, the very highest type. As there is only one channel to a

city, all program material is produced and telecast by the people

themselves, since there is no advertising or sex intimations but only

such things as the festivals, lectures, various stage presentations

or musicals which take place in the central theater. Little or no

news is broadcast and then only that which is of a nature which would

not cause fear or restlessness.

Music plays an important part in life here. Most of the

instruments are of the string type and are usually plucked. There are

some reed or flute-like instruments which help give variety. There

are none of the heavy percussive type which form a large part of our

modern orchestras. The music itself is, for the most part, a quaint

sing-song-like rhythm or chant which usually depicts some story or

moral lesson; or even historical events are portrayed. Considerable

color is used in the stage presentations, which gives much added

charm as the innumerable color combinations rise and fall with the

rhythm of the chant.

Since my initial trip, I have returned to Mars several times and

have learned much more about this fascinating civilization. To those

who are proponents and ardent supporters of our free enterprise

system, let it be said that they have a great shock coming to them.

On Mars there is no dog-eat-dog competition such as we, on earth, are

so familiar with. Everyone works for the government because the

government is the people! This highly developed socialistic system is

not to be confused with any so-called communistic governments on

earth. The Martians never break laws, consequently there are no laws.

They have long ago eliminated legislative bodies. How different here!

We have a huge and vast intricate network of legislative bodies, as

well as various branches of law enforcement. The average American has

many thousands of laws to obey. The great majority of, the people

either knowingly or unknowingly are breaking laws. As fast as a way

is found to circumvent one law, a new one is passed to prevent this!

The modern Chinese have placed a great deal of personal value on

face; they would rather die than lose face. This sense of personal

integrity was brought down through the ages from their Martian

ancestors. The average Martian has an advanced state of conscious

personal integrity. This eliminates the ponderous and very expensive

system of government to which we are accustomed. There is in

consequence a vastly simplified way of life. There are no taxes. as

this land is run like a highly ordered non-profit business. The

various departmental or executive heads are all highly trained

specialists and hold their positions because of ability and

integrity.

From childhood they are taught to be useful and productive.

Because of their simplified living habits, they have more time for

self-improvement and for developing new types of plastics, textiles,

etc. They usually limit their meals to only two a day and even those

are very simple, consisting primarily of vegetables and fruits, with

some synthetic foods. The Martians are not meat eaters partly for

the reason that animal life has largely passed from existence on

Mars, with the exception of mutants and the few obscure species

previously mentioned, and these are inedible. The Martian has learned

how to grow, and also to synthesize many spices and to produce

artificially, many protein foods. Space is not too plentiful. There

are some dwarf trees, three to four feet high with a fruit that looks

like an orange but has meat like that of an apple, is red skinned and

sweet. It is called sit-yu. Some other vegetables are grown in

troughs in long rows. These look like huge mushrooms and have a

delicious meat.

The Harmony of Martian Life

Martians are closely connected with the Venusians through

thought transference or mental telepathy. At one time, interplanetary

travel was used, but these spacecraft are at present stored in huge

underground hangars, and are being held in readiness for any

emergency, such `as a sudden mass evacuation of the population should

any unexpected need arise.

It was explained that the science of interplanetary travel was

something very difficult for the earth man to understand inasmuch as

the people and the craft itself would, in taking off, actually change

the rate of vibration of their own and the craft's atomic structure.

Thus they would in a sense become weightless and temporarily free of

various usual forces such as gravitation, inertia, etc. My guide

went on to explain that this science of changing the atomic vibration

rates is a very advanced one, and that if the earthmen would learn

this, it would remove all the present day obstructions and barriers

such as materials, fuel, pressures and the hundreds of other

hindrances to present day space travel. At present their experiments

have progressed to a point where a man's body can be changed into

electrical energies, sent over a radar beam and then changed back to

the original state; all in a matter of a split second, and with no

pain or discomfort to the individual.

This no doubt sounds fantastic. Nowadays it is only the ignorant

mam who scoffs at any new ideas, and no doubt there will be those who

will be unable to believe these truths; but it does not matter, since

that still does not alter the facts. Just fifty years ago they were

laughing at the Wright brothers - and think of what has been invented

and improved and brought into use since that time. No less so in the

future. The things of science which are commonplace in the Martian

way of life could well become a part of ours in some future day.

I was informed that the Martians understand what is happening to

the earth people and its veritable rat race, and they are very

desirous of aiding through mental telepathy to inspire as many of the

earthians as are receptive to their ways for the advancement of

mankind and the improvement of conditions on this planet, and within

man himself. Until man realizes the great over-balance on the

material side and gains the necessary spiritual knowledge we cannot

hope to be harmonious with the other more advanced planets. They say

that it is realized only too well that they must not interfere with

the evolution or progress of man on earth to any great extent, for it

would not be in keeping with God's immutable law of individual soul

progress.

The scientists of Mars have informed me that our telescopes, in

the photographing process, are subject to error and do not get

refraction but infraction. Sometimes the light rays, or vibrations as

they are more properly called, are at times subjected to distortions,

or bendings, in their flight through space, due to the proximity of

some other planetary body. Because of the conjunction of magnetic

lines of force, the astronomer does not always get a true picture of

what he thinks he is seeing. Also the planet Mars, on the outside of

its surface, has a tremendously charged shell. While it is invisible

to the eye, this can cause great distortions in light-ray

frequencies.

And so the time has come, at least for the present, to return to

our more familiar planet earth, and I do so reluctantly, for there

are still many more facets of life on (rather in) Mars of which I

have only a slight understanding. I would like to learn more of their

various customs, celebrations and observances. Obviously it cannot

all be taken in during only a few trips. I cannot recall a single

instance of this most fascinating and interesting experience of my

visits to Mars without a deep feeling of awe, reverence and gratitude

to this very fine person who calls himself Nur El for giving so

unselfishly of his time and efforts in explaining so many things

about the planet, its people, manners, etc.

There is also a grave concern by these people about our

destructive downhill way of life. We are creating and breeding a race

of psychopathic misfits I in our highly specialized, mechanical

world. The people are becoming robots. They cannot sleep for

nightmares from fear and insecurity. Their days an endless succession

of almost frantic scurrying, or worse, a robot-like existence of

work, sleep, and work. On every hand flagrant psychological and

sexual stimulants are used for advertisements suggestion is used to

hammer home these cheap and malicious messages until the brain

becomes numb and neurotic. Exploitation of the masses has become a

highly specialized science, ruthless and cold-blooded, running the

gamut from charity to vice.

On the other hand there are almost equally frantic attempts

being made by various religious groups, churches, individuals, etc.,

to portray in some way to the great masses the grave dangers

confronting them. These efforts are pitifully small and weak.

Moreover, these efforts are not above suspicion, for there are, here

as elsewhere, many charlatans.

The Supernova Connection

It was intimated in the foregoing pages that it was quite

obvious that it would require several trips to gain a comprehensive

understanding of the Martian way of life, and that therefore, I would

quite likely, from time to time, make similar visits or flights.

Since concluding the last pages, Nur El has made contact several

times and has given or shown me pertinent information regarding

several issues which I would like to clear up. In case some of you

are wondering just as I did, what caused his people to go underground

and why they do not migrate to some other planet since they have all

the necessary craft to do so. Nur El explained all this by first

saying that Mars was, up until about 100,000 years ago, a planet very

similar to the earth. There was air, water, and an abundance of plant

and animal life. The cities flourished on the surface just as ours

do. At that time, through their occult science and also with their

superior telescopes they saw, somewhere out in space, a cataclysm

take place. One of the giant suns suddenly went berserk, flared up

like a nova and then exploded in a terrific blinding flash. Huge

chunks hurtled out into space in different directions, each one a

smaller, white-hot, atomically-burning sun, shooting off great

streamers of atomic energies. It was determined by calculations, that

one of these fiery pieces would pass very close to our solar system.

As it was larger than our own sun, it was conceivable that there

would be tremendous repercussions; in fact, anything was possible.

Because of its great size it would have a tremendous gravitational

pull, besides giving off great energies. It was also determined, as

light traveled much faster in space than this huge chunk, that it

would pass our solar system. This therefore gave the Martians a grace

period for preparation. They had, however, a choice: to stay on Mars

or to migrate to another planet far away from this solar system.

After a search of the nearby, practical limits of the heavens, it was

found that there was no other planet available which would be

suitable. So an alternative was decided upon. They could build huge

cities underground! During the next two hundred years or so, an

almost frantic building program was assiduously pursued. We can well

imagine some of the problems, the sacrifices, and the labor and

research which went into this tremendous project, but it was finally

accomplished. In due time all was snug and ship-shape as possible.

Buried deep under many feet of rock and earth, in their newly

constructed dome-like cities, the people of Mars waited for the final

hours. Day by day they watched the white glowing mass of light grow

larger and larger. There was no really accurate way by which to

measure how close it would pass or just how hot it would be. No doubt

many thought it would be the end!

Finally the hour struck. Nur El stated that for eight days the

planet was rocked, torn and twisted as great forces blasted and

ripped the surface. Plant and animal life disappeared almost

entirely, except for the few species which escaped by being buried or

in caves. The air and water too, were largely dissipated or drawn off

with the passing nova. When it was over, Mars was decimated and

burned to a cinder.

Other planets also suffered. On earth there were great

earthquakes and tidal waves. A great continent and civilization,

called Lemuria, sank beneath the sea. Great deserts were burned into

the surface in places which were formerly beautiful forests and

plains. The Sahara and Gobi deserts were two of these. Earth's

orbit and axis (or the poles) were also changed. Instead of a

circular orbit Earth was rocked into an elliptical orbit, with the

addition of a very slight but definite wobble or oscillation, which

it has never lost. Uranus and Pluto was pushed out into an orbit much

further away from the sun. Neptune suffered a similar fate although

not quite so pronounced. It is conceivable that the other planets were

also affected according to their size and position at the time of the

passing of this huge celestial "atom bomb." No doubt the knowledge

of this cataclysm will clear up some of the mysteries of Earth's

history which have been puzzling the seekers of truth for many years.

Our present civilization, good as it is in some respects, leaves

much to be desired. It has been the purpose of Nur El, the people of

Mars and myself to bring you some understanding of their ways of

life, hoping thus to bring about, not only among the nations of the

world, but future interplanetary relationships which are harmonious

and conducive to a better way of life.

We all salute you and wish you infinite love, wisdom and peace.

Appendix

Shortly after writing this article there appeared in the

Saturday Review, on May 28, 1955, an article written by Dr. Robert S.

Richardson, astronomer at Mount Palomar, which refers to the findings

of the International Committee on Mars, which closed its fourth

conference on March 25, 1955. There are several interesting

statements made, on which I will comment. Mr. Richardson states the

consensus of opinion is that there is life on Mars, or that it could

exist. This is at least some progress in the right direction. Also he

is quite correct about the deserts. Most of the surface of this

planet is semi-arid wastelands. It is however, incorrect to say

there is no oxygen there.

The presence of the green maria, which he calls sponge- like

algae, proves the presence of oxygen, although in a comparatively

rare state. As everyone knows, oxygen is necessary in the breathing

cycle of any plant which contains chlorophyll (oxygen on Mars is

about 10% of the density of the earth's oxygen) as was stated in the

aforementioned article. This sponge-like algae is found growing along

the edges of the snow banks and often attains a height of forty to

fifty feet. It dries up with the vanishing of the snow caps and re-

grows the following spring.

What the doctor states regarding water on Mars is very true. It

is very scarce and the people of the underground cities take great

pains to conserve every gallon of it.

As to the temperatures. that is still a matter of conjecture. It

is a very tricky business to measure heat over thirty-five millions

of miles distance. Moreover, surface temperatures do not affect the

inhabitants of the underground cities, as they are completely

pressurized and conditioned with temperatures maintained at a

comfortable level.

The most surprising part of the entire article was that there

was absolutely no mention of the famous canals of Mars. I wonder

what happened to them? These canals were for many years a great

controversial subject. The photograph in this article does not show

them, but this is perhaps explained by the fact that this photo was

taken with infra-red light film. It may be that the savants at Mt.

Palomar would like to explain this.

It is of questionable value that the writer interjected such a

material angle as real estate. It seems it would have been wise to

confine the remarks within the domain of science and leave this

problem up to some of our great promoters in that future day of

landing. It might also be that the Martians would resent our tearing

up their planet.

It is also probable that in that future day when man does have

space travel to Mars, he will be able to take his wife or loved ones

along. Landing there will be somewhat like taking a plane to a far

off city on this planet. On arriving on Mars the space ship will be

taxied into a huge airlock. The passengers will disembark and find

hotels and accommodations in a similar fashion as on earth. (Assuming

of course that such factors as freedom from germ life, health,

adaptability to lower air pressures, etc., have been fully

compensated for.)

It is unfortunate indeed that the astronomers of today take such

a dim view of the possibility of life on other planets. They should

be in a position to know better than anyone else. Does it not seem a

bit preposterous to assume that in all the countless billions of

suns, star clusters. galaxies. etc. and their associated planetary

systems, that earth and Mars clone are inhabited?

Perhaps we should refer to Jesus of Nazareth when he stated

that, "In my Father's house are many mansions.'

In that distant day when space travel is a reality, let us hope

that our men of science are universally schooled in the knowledge of

the Infinite God and that we will find in this wisdom an integrated

philosophy of life, one which will supply our need and an answer to

every problem.

In that future day, we will have put aside all our petty

quibbling over interpretations. We will find God not only in the

heart and mind of man but in everything in this material Universe.

SUMMARY REPORT ON OBSERVATIONS 30-31 MARCH 1990

BACKGROUND

1. Starting early Dec 89 the BAF has been contacted on several occasions by

eyewitnesses who observed strange phenomena in the Belgian airspace. On some

occassions they described the phenomena as a triangle-shaped platform up to

200 feet wide with 3 downward beaming projectors, hovering at +- 100 m above

the ground and making only a very light humming noise. Some witnesses saw the

object departing at very high speed after a very fast acceleration. All

observations were made in the evening or during the night. 2. The radar

stations which had been alerted by eyewitnesses could not definitely determine

a correlation between the visual observations and their detections on radar.

On two occasions the BAF scrambled 2 F16 during the evening hours. a.On the

first occasion the F16 arrived +- 1 hour after the visual detection. Nothing

was observed. b. On the second occassion, pilots could identify a laser-beam

projector on the ground. After investigation it appeared however that the

description of the observations totally differed from previously described

phenomena. 3. Consequently the Belgian Airforce, anxious to identify the

origin of the phenomena, authorised F16 scrambles if following conditions were

met: a. Visual observations on the ground confirmed by the local police. b.

Detection on radar.

EVENTS

4. On 30 Mar 1990 at 23.00 Hr the Master Controller (MC) of the Air Defence

radar station of Glons received a phone call from a person who declared to

observe three independant blinking lights in the sky, changing colours, with a

much higher intensity than the lights of the stars and forming a triangle.

Meteo conditions were clear sky, no clouds, light wind and a minor temperature

inversion at 3000 Ft. 5. The MC in turn notified the police of WAVRE which

confirmed the sighting at +- 23 30 Hr. Meanwhile the MC had identified a

radar contact at about 8 NM North of the ground observation. The contact

moved slowely to the West at a speed of =- 25kts and an altitude of 10.000 Ft.

6. The ground observers reported 3 additional light spots which moved

gradually, with irregular speeds, towards the first set of lights and forming

a second triangle. 7. At 23.50 a second radar station, situated at +- 100 NM

from the first, confirmed an identical contact at the same place of the radar

contact of Glons. 8. At 00.05 Hr 2 F16 were scrambled from BEAUVECHAIN airbase

and guided towards the radar contacts. A total of 9 interception attempts

have been made. At 6 occasions the pilots could establish a lock-on with their

air interception radar. Lock-on distances varried between 5 and 8 NM. On all

occasions targets varied speed and altitude very quickly and break-locks

occured after 10 to 60 seconds. Speeds varied between 150 and 1010 kts. At 3

occasions both F16 registered simultaneous lock-ons with the same parameters.

The 2 F16 were flying +- 2 NM apart. No visual contact could be established

by either of the F16 pilots. 9. The F16 flew 3 times through the observation

field of the ground observers. At the third passage the ground observers

notified a change in the behaviour of the light spots. The most luminous

started to blink very intensively while the other disappeared. Consequently,

the most luminous spot started to dim gradually. 10. Meanwhile the head of the

police of WAVRE had alerted 4 other police stations in the area. All four,

seperated +- 10 NM from each other, confirmed the visual observations. 11. The

aircraft landed at 01.10 Hrs. The last visual observation was recorded at +-

01.30 Hrs.

CONCLUSIONS

12. The BELGIAN Airforce was unable to identify neither the nature nor the

origin of the phenomena. However, it had sufficient elements to exclude

following assumptions: a. Balloons. Impossible due to the highly variable

speeds (confirmed visually and by radar). b. ULM. Same as for balloons. c.

RPV. Impossible due to the hovering characteristics. d. Aircraft (including

Stealth). Same as for RPV. No noise. e. Laser projections or Mirages.

Unlikely due to lack of projection surface (no clouds). Light spots have been

observed from different locations. Light spots moved over distance of more

than 15 NM. Form of inlighted part of spots has been observed with

spectacles. Laser projections or mirages can not be detected by radar.

Extraterrestrial Contacts?

Are human beings now in contact with some unkown extraterrestrial

intelligence? UFO investigators from all across the country report that the

number of Contact cases has risen over 200% in the last five years! It is

my feeling that there could be something very concrete to this contact

phenomena and we should all take a much more serious attitude toward it.

Contact In The Hudson Valley

---------------------------

During my research in the Northeast section of the United States, I have

found a good number of people you had an continue to have UFO encounters.

Most of these witnesses started out with and ordinary sighting and now

after many UFO related experiences feel they are in contact with the

intelligence behind the UFOs.

In the Hudson Valley area alone, there has been more than 7,000 reports

of UFOs over the past seven years. To my surprise many people in the area

felt that they had contact with a non-human intelligence from another

world.At first I found these cases strange and a little disturbing since in

most cases this type of report is picked up by the media who attempt to

discredit it by ridiculing the witness. Needless to say this hurts UFOlogy

in general. During the early part of my investigation into the Hudson

Valley Phenomena, I did my best to keep these cases away from the public

eye. The first call of order was to prove that something strange was in the

sky and that the UFO that thousands of people have been seeing is not

something conventional, like "planes in formation".

As time went on the cases of contact in the area began to escalate. I

knew then that some of these cases had to be researched. In response to

this, A UFO conference was organized by Peter Gersten and myself. The

conference took place during september of 1987 and the theme was to explore

the possibility that a non-human intelligence was in contact with people in

the area.

The speakers were Whitley Strieber, Budd Hopkins,John Keel, Ellen

Crystall and myself. At the end of tweleve hours about 900 people attended

and over 200 filled out report forms stating that they thought they had

contact with the UFO intelligence. The actual number really surprised me

greatly, and we were only touching the tip of the iceberg.

Out of the 200 reports a primilary investigation proved that 120 of them

could be unreliable, so only 90 were selected for study. They are listed

below and broken down into to five categories.

I will clarify each of the above categories below:

Abduction; Those people who claim to have been taken aboard an alien craft

and meeting the intelligence that operates it.

Channeling: Those people who claim to be in mental contact with a

non-human or super human intelligence. Most communication is done by

automatic writing,verbally or diagrams.

Entity Communication: Those who have met a human like or non-human like

being and had verbal or mental face to face communication.In most cases the

person is left with some type of information, but in some cases no

information is exchanged during the contact.

Sighting With telepathy: a sighting of a UFO in which the witnesses feels

some type of communication is taking place between them and the

intelligence in the UFO. As you can see this made up of the bulk of reports

that I investigated.

CE-III only: Those people who have encountered a strange being, but no

communication was made. Some time the encounter is near a landed

UFO,sometimes there is no UFO in sight.

I will now present Two cases studies of contact from my research along

with my findings. It must be remembered that the case studies are very long

and complex,so I will only present the core of the data.

Abductions

-----------

The abduction phenomena is wide spread across the country. Pioneer

researchers like Budd Hopkins have brought many cases to light. It was no

surprise to me that when the UFO sightings began in the Hudson Valley that

soon abduction cases would follow. One particular case that was brought to

my attention concerned a computer scientist in his early twenties. To

protect the person identity I shall call him "Ray".

On March 13 1988 at 10:00 P.M "Ray" was driving home on Route 116 in

Croton Falls, New York. The route is a lonely dark road with no lights with

a large reservoir on his left and woods on the right. He was driving home

from a friend's home in the area of Croton Falls to his home in New Castle,

New York.

"Ray" noticed a number of very bright white lights off to his left just

above the reservoir. the lights seemed too low to be a plane and looked

like they were several hundred yards away. The pine trees along the side of

the road partially obstructed his view, so he continued to drive, but

slowly until he came to a clearing.

He then stopped his car rolled down his window and watched the lights as

they continued to approach. He then pulled himself half way out of the car

through the window and sat on the car door. As he watched the lights, he

noticed that they were connected to some type of very dark structure. There

was no sound from the object and it was about 20 feet above the tree line.

As the UFO passed over his car, he looked up to see this large triangular

object which was about 100 feet from end to end slowly pass over his car.

He looked up and noticed that the object only had lights in the front and

the underside was in sections and had depth, and receded inward. Inside the

receded area he saw white flashes of light. He compared these flashes with

that of a strobe light. Then something strange took place. The next thing

he knew, he was back in the car and driving down the road and the object

was gone.

When he got home he found it very hard to sleep. For the next several

days "Ray" would wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat with

his heart pounding feel very confused. He knew somehow that these sudden

episodes of night terror had to do something with the UFO sighting.

I arranged to have "Ray" hypnotized by Dr. Jean Mundy, a certified

Psychologist who practices in New York City and a well known UFO

researcher. The result of the hypnotic session indicated that "Ray"

experienced an abduction on Route 116 during his sighting.The case is very

long and involved. I will only give a synopsis of the information that was

brought out during that session.

"Ray's" Abduction

-----------------

While the object was passing over his car, "Ray" somehow was drawn out of

the car window and into the UFO. He found himself lying on a table in a

dark room. There were several beings standing on each side of him, and the

being next to his left side was moving some type of instrument around his

head. He tried to move but his legs felt paralyzed. Ray described the

beings as typical "greys", that are often described in UFO literature. He

noticed their eyes were round, and not slanted, as often reported.

One of the beings then inserted something up his nose which caused "Ray"

extreme pain. The feeling he had was as if cotton was being shoved up his

nostril. While remembering this part of the hypnosis "Ray" began to cry out

in pain and his nose began to get red and swell.

After the insert procedure, "Ray" was allowed to get up. He was escorted

by one of the beings to a control pannel. The being was short and was only

as high as "Ray"'s chest( "Ray" is about five foot 9). At no time was there

any verbal communication, but "Ray" knew where they wanted him to go and

what they wanted him to do. He saw this control pannel which was like a

greyish material with many projections and knobs. He thought that these

might be some type of controls.

"Ray" then found himself back in his car driving down the road. "Ray"

feels that the beings will someday come back for him and this time he will

not be returned for him. His entire life has changed since the incident. He

feels as if he is in some form of mental contact with the beings that he

met. He feels as if he is gathering information for them. For example "Ray"

may be listening to music, and a voice inside his head will say "Tell us

about this music, how does it make you feel". "Ray" is not able to control

these requests,they can come at any time while he is experiencing something

in his every day life.

"Ray"'s case is unusual, but not unique when compared to the many cases

that I have investigated in the Hudson Valley.

Channeling

-----------

The channeling phenomenon seems to be a new craze across the country.

When I was approached by individuals who claimed to be in contact with a

super human intelligence, my first response was a negative one. Since 1986

I have invesigated the claims of at least 40 people who say they are

channeling a higher intelligence that is extraterrestrial in nature.My

research proved to my satisfaction that 90% of these people proved to be in

contact with nothing more than their own imagination.The other 10% are

interesting,but require additional research.From the ten cases, selected

from the conference data, only one stands out. This person is the only one

that really made me consider that he may be in contact with an intelligence

that is not of this Earth.

Dean Fagerstrom is a 57 year old resident of Putnam Lake New York. When I

first met Dean in 1982 he was Working as a night watchman. I found Dean

intelligent, articulate and to say the least fascinating.

As an adult Dean's experiences began in November of 1966 while in the army

stationed in Bad Kreuznach, Germany. He lived down town, about a mile from

the base.One night at two o'clock in the morning while sitting in his

apartment while working on a number sequence for the lottery, he had the

feeling he was not alone. He id not feel alarmed by the awareness, but

curious. Finally he got up and walked around the living room and when he

found no one he returned to his seat where he was working with the numbers

on a white board. As he looked at the white board a human like face began

to appear before his eyes. The face filled up just about all of the two by

three board. As the image got clearer, he saw that it was not one face, but

two. There was a bluish shimmer around the edges of this image,one image

was that of a man wuth tawny hair, not quite shoulder length, and a woman

with slightly darker hair, a little shorter Then he heard a voice close to

his ear identify the names of the beings that he saw. The male gave his

name as" Donestra" and his wife's name as" Kilestra", although he did not

say "wife", but rather "mate".

This Donestra then told Dean, that Dean has studied many things and they

have been receiving his thought projections because the mind is a powerful

transmitter. Donestra also told Dean that the images he is now seeing are

not real, but holographic projections. Dean was then told that this being

and his mate were amoung thousands of other individuals from various

planets throughout the near regions of our solar system and beyond.Donestra

told Dean that they have been studying the Earth for many years and that

our planetary and human condition interested them greatly.

After several minutes of conversation the communication came to a close

and Dean was asked not to mention to any one for a while what he had seen

and heard. Dean was told to watch the skies in the next few days, he did

and claims he saw a craft of" amazing design and aerial ability". This was

to prove to Dean that the contact he had was real and not an hallucination.

Between 1966 and 1967 Dean was to continue to have contact with Donestra.

In 1967 Dean was discharged from the service and he moved to Brewster,

New York. Things were quiet, and the year went by uneventful. But on

January 19th 1968 at 4:30 in the morning Dean had another extraterrestrial

contact, this time it would change the rest of his life.

Dean woke up at that hour and saw a bluish shimmer in the upper corner of

the room.He also heard an incredible high frequency buzzing sound.

Gradually, an object materialized about three inches in diameter, round,

resembling an old fashion microphone.

This object came nearer and nearer until it halted before Dean's face at

a distance of no more than a foot. This object stood their,suspended in mid

air and continued to oscillate. As Dean watched, something projected itself

from the center of the disk and extended out four or five inches, it

resembled an "ice pick". It seemed to Dean that it was some type of probe

and came to within three inches of his forehead. The probe then emitted a

very intense vibration that shook his head and neck. Dean lay in bed

helpless, but not paralyzed. The object then became quiet, then it

disappeared.

The next day, Friday morning, Dean got into his car went to a store and

began buying graph paper, triangles, compasses and various drafting

instruments. The buying spree did not seem to be under his control, nor did

he understand why he was buying these things.

Dean collected his purchases and went home and for the next three weeks

began making drawings of various types of alien machinery. Dean did not

know why he was doing this, but thought this Donestra person might have

something to do with it. Dean had no idea of what the devices were that he

was drawing.

The drawings were done in an unusual manner; Dean had no notion of what

he was doing,but felt strongly motivated to complete the drawings. He would

place a piece of graph paper in front of him and s bluish dots would

appear. The dots instructed him where to draw the lines. Also he seemed to

have a pre-knowledge of what color or shade to place in a particular part

of the diagrams. After three weeks and many hours behind closed doors Dean

Completed 32 diagrams and several pages of some unkown symbols.(Two of

these diagrams appear in this issue, as well as one page of the symbols.

Dean held on to these diagrams since 1968,then turned them over to me in

1982. He said that he was instructed to do so by Donestra and that I would

know what to do with them when the time comes.

The diagrams have been looked at by many professional people,a physicist,

an electrical enginner, a professional artist, a master draftsman and even

Dr. Hynek looked at them. Everyone was very impressed with them, and the

draftsman stated that it would take someone with at least twenty years

experience to produce something of that quality.

Dean Fagerstrom continues his contacts till this day. It would take an

entire book to explore some of the material he has produced, and a lifetime

Entity Communication

This type of case invloves beings materializing to a witnesses out of

thin air. Since 1986, 10 cases of this type have been brought to my

attention in the Hudson Valley. Since the publication of my book Night

Siege, The Hudson Valley UFO siightings in 1987 and my previous articles in

UFO UNIVERSE, I have received well over 50 letters from all over the

country from people who experienced this type of contact.

In over 80% of the cases the time of the contact seems to be from 2-4 A.M

and the place , the witnesses bedroom. The stories are very similar and

they tell of the witnesses being woke up by the being,not physically but by

a strong mental impression. The beings are usually described the same, tall

slim, with long hair(Mostly blonde but, in some rare cases black).The

majority of the beings reported are male, with very few females reported.

It is interesting to note that the tall blonde beings seems to be taking

part in this type of contact, while the little Greys are responsible for

the abductions. In this type of contact 92% of the contactees were women.

Many times some type of information is given to the witnesses.The

information is usually to predict major natural catastrophies and future

UFO sightings. In all the cases explored none of the information that is

given to the person contacted checks out. In most cases the person is

paralyzed while the enitity proceeds with the communication. In all the

cases explored the witnesses is never allowed to speak.

Sighting with Telepathy

Some people who spotted the Hudson Valley UFO felt a strong connection

with the UFO and themselves. At times they felt as if the object(or the

intelligence inside the object) could read their minds. After these

sightings these witnesses continued to feel a strong bond between the UFO

and themselves. These people who had this feeling during their intial

sighting in the Hudson Valley, continued to have additional sightings, some

later experienced one type of contact listed above. These reports are

fully documented in my book NIGHT SIEGE, which was co-authored with the

late Dr. J. Allen Hynek and Mr. Bob Pratt.

Prearranged UFO Photos?

We have seen many UFO photographs in the past twenty years. In some cases

it seems that the photograph was the result of more than an accident. This

may be the case of Travis Ward a Greenwich resident who on January 22 in

the early morning hours took the following UFO photo. Was his camera set up

at the right place at the right time? Or was it more than a stroke of luck?

CE-III Cases

The number of CE-III cases that have been reported to me involve the

little grey humanoids in and around the Hudson Valley of New York. These

cases seem to be on the rise since August of 1987 and are currently under

investigation. In some of the cases contact was made without the classical

abduction. Many reports that have been brought to my attention all seem to

be of the classical "grey" beings described in the books, COMMUNION and

INTRUDERS. At times these creatures have been reported around a a UFO that

is close to the ground,but sometimes no UFO is seen at all.

Contact of the Fourth Kind

(Abductions in the Hudson Valley area of New York)

Over the past five years the New York, New Jersey and Connecticut area

have been the scene of a massive number of UFO sightings. The numbers of

reports are so great that I believe this area has the highest number of raw

UFO sighting reports in the entir e world. These reports are documented in

my book NIGHT SIEGE THE HUDSON VALLEY UFO SIGHTS which I co-authored with

the late Dr. J. Allen Hynek and Mr. Bob Pratt.

I have been asked over the years by many UFO researchers if there have

been any close encounter-abduction type cases in the Hudson Valley . My

answer to most was No.Only to few did I admite that there were abduction

cases and plenty of them. This denial of such cases was at the request of

Dr. Hynek since he wanted NIGHT SIEGE to be a documentation of the many UFO

reports in the Hudson Valley.D. Hynek also wanted to keep these cases quiet

until we had more data about the sightings in the area.

With so many reports over the years and with the sighting still

continuing it was only a matter of time before the growing number of

Abduction cases in the Hudson Valley had to be dealt with.

To this date I have been contacted by at least 75 people who feel as if

they had more than a sighting. Of the 75 there are 25 that would be

suitable for further study.Of these twenty five ten come from professional

backrounds.All do not want any type o f publicity. I will explore two of

these cases in this article. At the witnesses request, I have changed their

names to protect them.I would also like to inform the reader that Whitley

Strieber, author of the best selling book COMMUNION experiences took place

in the Hudson Valley area. Since the publication of his book many people

have come forward with incredible stories,people who would otherwise would

have kept silent.

On July 2 1987 I received a call from a 36 year old woman from Toms River

New Jersey who I shall call Gail. Gail was very troubled on the phone and

insisted that she talk to me about a UFO related experience that she had.

During the last part of June (1 987) as she was lying down on her bed, she

felt some what uneasy as if someone was watching her.The time was Ten PM.

She then heard a voice say" We have come for you..You will not be hurt."

She then realized that her entire body was paralyzed and that she could

only move her eyes.Gail was lying on her back and noticed that three beings

stood in the doorway to her bedroom. She was alone in the house at the

time,but does live there with her seventeen year old daughter who was away

visiting her father in Croton Falls N.Y. Gail is divorced.

Three beings were dressed in something that looked like tightly fitting

jumpsuits and stood in a single row,one behind the other. The leader,

according to Gail seemed to have a problem getting into the room. It was as

if sometype of invisible sheild was blocking his way. He lifted up his

hand and pressed them against the invisible sheild,then he put his

hand>4^[e light in the hall was dim,and she could not see their

features. She noticed they were about five feet tall with very long arms.

The leader then took some type of rod out from a side pocket and turned

the bottom of it. The rod then glowed with a green light and he passed it

over the doorway area. They then walked into the room without any effort.

As they entered the room still in a single file she noticed that they had

large heads and eyes that looked like a cats which wrapped around their

heads. She never heard them talk but heard all kinds on buzzing noises in

her head when the leader communicated with the others.

Gail tried to scream but could not,she could only move her eyes.The leader

placed himself on her right side and then one of them went to the foot of

the bed and the other on the left side of the bed. The beings on each side

of her then placed their hand s under her head and raised it up. She then

noticed that the one on her left took a tube of what like like a narrow

roll of white cotton and started pushing it up her left nostril.At that

moment she felt extreme pain in her head and then started to lose co

nscious. She felt as if she was falling from a great height,then she does

not remeber anymore.

The next thing she recalls is waking up at 8am with a very bad headache.

As she walked to the bathroom her nose (both nostrils started to bleed. She

felt as if something was stuck up her nose,but nothing was there. She

looked in the bathroom mirror and noticed her nose was swollen and

puffy.She she noticed a rash on her neck,legs and slightly on her arms.

She had hoped that the experience from that last night was a dream and

tried to block it out of her head. When her daughter arrived home that

night she told her about what happened.Gail told me that before she even

finsihed with her story her daughter s tarted shaking and then told her

that on the same night, about the same time she and her father were

followed by a UFO on route 116 near Croton Falls New York. She described to

her mother a large dark craft triangular in shape that paced the car for

five m inutes above tree top level.

I found this report very interesting since Croton falls is near the

border of Westchester and Putnam Counties in New York and that loney route

has been the site of more than one Close Encounter over the past five

years. I also found it interesting that both mother and daughter had a

experience with the paranormal at the same time.

There is more to this case than meets the eye. The daughter and father

accrording to my findings may have had as much as thirty minutes missing

time. If this is so and if both were abducted then the experience happened

to father,mother and daughter at t he same time!.

Gail's rash and headaches continued for a few days then disappeared. I

plan to have Gail undergo hypnosis in the near future by a certified

psychologist. The story does not end here. Several weeks latter I received

a call from Gail telling me that it ha ppened again. She said"Those

creatures came back the same time and they did the same thing"She

continued"It was as if I was watching a movie of the first time they

came,they did exactly the same thing.Including having trouble getting into

the doorway to th e bedroom.My daughter was once again away visiting her

father."

This case is still under study, but intial findings indicate that both

Gail and her daughter may have a history of interactions with the

intelligence behind the UFO phenomenon.

The second case I would like to cover took place on July 19th 1984 during

the peak of activity in the Hudson Valley. the sighting involved a Close

Encounter, Missing time and abduction. If this was a real expereince then

the implications are fantastic. In all the cases that I chose to study all

the witnesses related the truth,or what they thought was the truth.There is

no doubt in my mind that their stories are not hoaxes since none would have

nothing to gain by going public with their experiences.

Bill (as we shall refer to him) is a thirty two year old computer

programmer for a major scientific-engineering corportation that helped

design the major componets for the new NASA Hubble space telescope. On July

19th 1984, at about ten-thirty pm, Bill w as leaving work and heading west

on Highway I-84. As he approached the Taconic Parkway ramp in Dutchess

county New York he noticed a very bright almost circular object off to the

north. The object seemed to be just sitting there in the sky and the lights

w ere very bright white. As he watched the object it began to move and it

was at that time he noticed a dark mass behind it which blocked out the

brighter light polluted night sky. He continued to drive on 84 and soon

lost sight of the object. He then brushe d the entire incident off his mind

and thought"Oh it must have been those guys from Stormville flying those

planes faking a UFO" He then drove on listening to his radio.

He then turned off the route 52 exit near Stormville New York and began

traveling north. The time now was close to eleven PM and the roads were

quite desolate. He came to a clearing where there was a large field and

noticed a large dark mass sitting in the field about 200 yards from the

road. At first he thought that it was a new home,but then he knew there was

no house there since he went this way just last night and the field was

empty. As a matter of fact Bill drove this way home and passed the field

everynight and never saw a house there.

Bill slowed down the car"This thing was huge and dark",he said.The

strange thing was it was almost the same shape as a big barn,but it seemed

more tapered toward the sides and very smooth. As he watched, the dark

object rose into the air without a sound . This really upset Bill since he

was the only car on the road. The object then rose higher and higher. All

that Bill could see was the dark mass slowly rising into the air. It was

now about twice as high as the trees and it moved slowly towards Bill who w

as still in the car. Bills radio then started to sound "funny" he said that

the music on the radio sounded like a tape player ,playing music with very

weak batteries. The voices and the music sounded out of tune.

Bill then put his car into gear and sped away from the object. His heart

was racing as he drove up the road at about fifty miles and hour.Bill then

lost sight of the object and continued to drive at a slower rate of

speed.After several minutes he notice d a glow up ahead over a hill. As he

approached the crest of the hill there the object was! It was about 300

feet above the trees and was all lit up with rows of white and yellow

lights. He then stopped his car and turned off the engine and the lights.

He was hoping that who ever was in the thing would not see him. The object

then turned off its lights and he could see this huge dark mass slolwy

drifting toward him. The object passed right over his car,he could now see

its shape,it was triangular. Bill told

me"I don't want to make light of this,but the ship looked like one of the

star destroyers in Star Was" The underside was the same shape,although I

did not see the top.

The object passed over Bill, as he looked up he saw circular areas

underneath the UFO. These circular areas seemed to be like tunnels leading

into the object. Inside these circular tunnels there was a white

flashing,similar to the flashing of a white st robe light (we had several

reports of this white flashing effect from past CE cases in the Hudson

Valley, also the circular areas have been reported numerous times before).

Bill told me there was no sound.He estimated its size to be at least 300

feet from end to end.

Then something strange took place. The last thing Bill remembers is

watching it go over his car,he did not see it leave. The next thing he

knows he is at the bottom of the hill 600 feet from the position he was

when the UFO passed over his parked car. T he object itself was gone. He

was not sure what time it was when he watched the object passed over his

car,but he feels it was most likely about eleven-thirty PM. The time was

now tweleve -fifteen. He started his drive home upset and with a very stiff

neck .

When he arrived home he told his wife about his sighting. She was worried

to begin with since he was almost and hour late. That night Bill woke up

yelling in the night"saying get away from me!" His wife said that the

nightmares continued for a while at least twice a week . Bill told to me

that the he was not sure of what the nightmare was, but he knew something

was after him. As time went on Bill was afriad to drive at night alone. He

even had to insist to his boss not to put him on the evening or night

shift at his job. Finally Bill wanted to find out more since the experience

of the UFO and the fearful dreams tormented him. It wasen't until 1987 that

Bill contacted me and told me his story. Bill Had seen Budd Hopkins(author

of the book INTRUDERS) on a n umber of shows and asked me if would be

possible for him to be hypnotized. Hearing Budd on TV talk about the

abductions made him fearful and he wanted to make sure that this did not

happen to him. I arranged to have Bill meet with a certified psychologist

that I occasionally use to perform hypnosis.The following is a brief

transcript of Bills encounter under hypnosis. He first related seeing the

object on 84 and then the object in the field and then in the sky over the

hill, it is then that his voice become s fearful.

Bill" I see it now its that thing! Its coming in my direction!. Iam going

to turn off my car lights. maybe then wont see me and go away. Its

huge......Oh my God what is it!. Theres someone standing in the road he is

now walking toward the car. Who are yo u!...... He's saying something to me

"don't be fearful we need you...you have been selected". Selected for

what,get away!. I feel strange like I am floating in the air,its all dark.

I am now on this table and these guys are all around me,six of them. Two a

re at my head and two on the sides(two on each side). My legs and arms are

like dead weights I can't move them.

(Bill is then asked to describe them)

"These guys are small, large heads with round eyes,the eyes are all black

I can see no pupils in them,they remind me of sharks eyes. They are dressed

in sometype of black and white skin type suits. I can't see their hands.

The one at my head is moving so me type of device that looks like a

portable car vacuum cleaner up and down the left side of my head. It

vibrates my entire head,it feels like a drill going through my head...

STOP! it hurts.. He tells me that they are looking for something and found

it.

I now can feel my legs and arms they are allowing me to get up. They are

very small only up to the bottom part of my chest (Bill is six foot one

inch) The others are now over some type of pannel. Two of them are leading

me by the arms. I asked them where they were from"The one on my right

leading said"We are from here" I didn't understand the answer. I asked him

if they planned to let me go. he replied "Yes but we will see you again" He

told me that they need us because they have trouble living in our wor ld.

He said they come from a place which is very ugly when compared to our

world and they would rather live here,but can't. I told him that I would

remember and tell every one about this. He said I would remember in time

but there are forces in your own(?) which will stop you from telling

anyone about this experience." Bill then found himself back in the car.

Bill now recalls every aspect of the experience. It was a very real

experience to him.

There are about a dozen other cases similar to Bill's and Gail's.In The

Hudson Valley area.Can all of these people who have had UFO abductions and

sightings in this part of the country be experiencing sometype of mass

hysteria? I don't think so. The evid ence indicates that there is some type

of non-human intelligence at work. If the case histories of the total

experiences are true then we all better work together to get to the bottom

of this.

In 1987 Peter Gersten a Peekskill New York attorney put together a new

organization called CONTACT. Peter who is known for his work in obtaining

UFO related documents from goverment agencies organized CONTACT in response

to the great number of Close Enc ounter cases in the New York area. Peter

had some of the top UFologist flown in from all over the country to meet at

his Peekskill home. Amoung them were Tracy Torme, Budd Hopkins, Jim Mc

Cambell and this author. On September 27 CONTACT organized a free UF O

public conference in Brewster New York. The theme of the conference was to

explore the adbuction phenomena and the possibility that some people have

been in contact with a non-human intelligence.Speakers at the conference

included John Keel. Whitley Stri eber and Budd Hopkins. Over 900 people

attended the 12 hour conference and 200 filled out forms who felt they had

a contact experience.

Then during the first several months of 1988 Peter Gersten dissolved

CONTACT and as of the date of this publication CONTACT is no longer in

existence. The reasons for this are not clear but Peter still maintains a

UFO Hotline where callers can get up to date information about UFO

sightings. The caller can also leave their name and report their own

ETHICAL IMPLICATIONS OF

THE UFO ABDUCTION PHENOMENON

It is in the nature of human psychology that an event as dramatic as

contact with extraterrestrial intelligence can not be thought about _neut-

rally_, without deep-seated hopes and preconceptions. Most of us, I'm cer-

tain, prefer to believe that extraterrestrials would arrive on our planet

as friendly, helpful beings, eager to share their technology and to aid us

in solving our social and ecological problems. Upon this basic and very

human wish certain people have erected a powerful set of interpretations

of modern-day UFO reports. These hopes, hardened into a kind of theology,

can be described as a modern religion, willed into existence after the de-

cline of our more traditional deities. After all, we have been told more

than once that God is dead.

On the other hand, our recent wars, both hot and cold, and the ven-

ality and deceit we have seen in many of our political leaders have also

inspired an undercurrent of pessimism, global in extent. International

chaos, terrorism and governmental incompetence have trained many of us

always to expect the worst. And so, if the majority opinion, or hope, is

that extraterrestrials would arrive as space brothers, a strong minority

opinion fears the opposite - that we would find ourselves taken over by a

band of inter-galactic conquerors. Our popular science fiction films spell

out these hopes and fears quite literally: We have the kindly Space Broth-

er, Michael Rennie, stepping out of a gleaming spaceship to help earth-

lings through their troubles, and then we have the Body Snatchers out to

do us all in. I've dwelt on these basic attitudes about extraterrestrial

contact for an important reason: when we examine reports of actual con-

tact, especially as revealed in UFO abduction encounters, we must always

bear in mind our basic preconceptions and how they might influence our

reading of these events.

After twelve years of experience investigating the abduction phenom-

enon, I will not deal with the validity of such reports in this paper.

I've considered this issue elsewhere, in two books and a number of artic-

les, so we will here assume that the abductees I've worked with, more than

a hundred and fifty in all, are telling the truth as they best recall it.

I will concentrate instead on what information we can derive from their

accounts that might bear on the question of the moral nature of the UFO

phenomenon. Are the UFO occupants, as they are described by their abduc-

tees, good or bad, friends or foes, or is the situation just not reducible

to such terms? The very first step, obviously, is to analyze what the ab-

ductees say they feel about their captors, and that, every investigator

knows, is a complex task. My twelve years' experience leads me to a dis-

tinct conclusion: each abductee's emotions are invariably intense and many-

levelled - and usually mutually contradictory.

First of all, confrontations with UFO occupants are generally experi-

enced as frightening, so fear, at some point, is an almost universal ele-

ment in the emotional mix. Second, there is a kind of awe or wonder at the

power and seeming magic of the aliens' technology. This often translates

itself into a kind of affection, even love, that an abductee might feel

for the particular captor with whom he or she senses a special relation-

ship. On the other side of the same coin there is an almost universal ang-

er - verging sometimes on hatred - that abductees feel towards their abduc-

tors because of their enforced helplessness, their sense of having been

used, involuntarily, and even, upon occasion, of being made to suffer

severe pain. According to every broad study of the abduction literature

that I know of, and Edward Bullard's is the most authoritative [ParaNet

members - see FUFOR.ORD], fear, awe, affection and anger are the basic

emotional components of almost every UFO abduction experience. It is safe

to say, then, that _powerful and confusing_ emotions follow such experi-

ences, and that after their encounters abductees do not believe they have

been taken either by purely malevolent foes nor by selfless, angelic space

brothers. The situation is far too complicated for either simplistic read-

ing.

During the past eight years I have conducted an informal support

group for UFO abductees in the New York City area, and have kept in touch

with many others in various parts of the country. These circumstances have

allowed me to observe a number of men and women over an extended period of

time, and to see various patterns of response to their abduction experi-

ences. The weight of each component in the standard emotional mix varies

widely from individual to individual, and also changes with time within

any one psyche. But the basic components always seem to remain, subtly at

odds with one another, in each abductee. Several things must be kept in

mind, however, as we study the abductee's emotional charts. First, when

one is abducted, he or she is in something of an altered state, not unlike

a hypnotic trance. The abductee is _controlled_ by the abductors and his

or her behavior is in many ways far from normal. The abductee may be told

things, shown things, that may not be true or "real." So in this context

we must consider the abductee's occasional affection for his or her capt-

ors. Psychologists have shown that this phenomenon, the "Patty Hearst"

syndrome, all too often appears in earthly kidnapping experiences. There-

fore in evaluating the four emotions commonly described by UFO abductees,

three seem appropriate but one must be dealt with warily. Fear is some-

thing one would surely expect if the aliens actually look and act as re-

ported by their captives. Feelings of awe at the alien's technological

magic, an emotion that again seems appropriate. Anger, often to an extreme

degree, seems to be most abductee's reaction to being paralyzed and con-

trolled by their captors. The physically invasive and sometimes painful

operations performed upon them underline this response, which is often

deepened because the UFO occupants usually refuse to discuss the purpose

of these disturbing procedures. One has no choice except to submit to

needles, lights, knives, "scanners" and so forth, with no power to protest

or refuse. "I feel like a lab rat," one abductee said, her anger entirely

appropriate to her situation. It is the odd affection abductees often re-

port feeling for their captors that seems suspect, under the circumstan-

ces. Is this feeling possibly an artificial emotion, induced telepathic-

ally through some kind of quasi-hypnotic control? Is it a version of the

"Patty Hearst" syndrome? Is it a genuine reaction? Obviously no one can

answer these questions satisfactorily, but it seems to me that affection

is the one common abduction response that must be viewed with suspicion.

When one tries to tally up the pros and cons of an abduction experi-

ence as it immediately and visibly affects human emotion, it can be said

that two reactions are essentially negative, or even damaging. Fear and

anger, which are often felt deeply as terror and hatred, are surely dis-

ruptive of anyone's life. The sense of awe, while basically neutral and

sometimes tinged with fear, may enhance one's world view, and thus con-

tribute positively. The fourth and most suspect emotion, affection for

one's captors, if genuine, is a positive one. So the emotional "score" af-

ter an abduction experience does not support either a simple "Space Broth-

er" or "Body Snatcher" interpretation. Judging purely by obvious surface

reactions we are still in ethically mixed territory, though to me and to

many abductees the negative effects seem more powerful than the positive.

Moving away from the patterns of the abductees' immediate emotional

responses, we can evaluate the ethical content of an extraterrestrial pres-

ence by considering another, larger plane. Is there any evidence that ex-

traterrestrial intelligence has actively intervened in human affairs, eith-

er helpfully or destructively? The modern era of UFO activity begins in

earnest in 1947, but many UFO reports surfaced during World War II in the

phenomenon labelled "foo fighters" by our airmen. No force, either extra-

terrestrial or otherwise, put a stop to the Holocaust until the Allied

armies conquered Nazi Germany. By then it was too late for millions of in-

nocent people, murdered by a system no one seemed able to stop. The United

States developed nuclear weapons and used them to incinerate tens of thous-

ands of children, women and men. No one, terrestrial or otherwise, prevent-

ed those bombs from falling. Continuing Stalinist butchery, international

terrorism, American intervention in a Vietnamese civil war - all meant

that thousands upon thousands of innocent people lost their lives because

of the cruelty or indifference of political leaders of every persuasion.

No one intervened. Michael Rennie, alas, never stepped out of his space

ship to save us from ourselves. We have polluted our planet, spreading

cancer by industry's greedy indifference to the consequences of chemical

"bonanzas." No one came to our rescue; the Chariots of the Gods evidently

drew up just to watch the damage deepen. And now we have a new plague -

the disease known by its ironic acronym AIDS...something fresh and new

that we apparently did not have before the advent of the modern UFO era.

Now all of this means one thing. As a moral presence the UFO phenom-

enon seems sublimely indifferent to what we do to ourselves. Intervention

is evidently not part of the plan, as diving into the surf to rescue a

drowning child is sometimes not part of an indolent sunbather's plans. On

the other hand there seems to be no evidence that an extraterrestrial pre-

sence has inflicted any excess pain upon us, either. If Michael Rennie's

alien only saves us in Hollywood films, the evil, intervening Body Snatch-

ers seem only to exist there, too. I believe that the cruelty that mankind

has endured in this century has an all too human origin; one doesn't have

to look to spaceships for its cause. And we look to them in vain even for

first aid, let alone salvation.

But how should we evaluate what seems inescapable evidence of extra-

terrestrial indifference to human tragedy? I feel that the grades should

be harsh. The power and technology revealed by UFO report upon UFO report

indicates that intervention of some kind should have been possible; help

should have been given. Apologists for a Space Brothers theory use the

same argument as Christian Apologists: The UFO occupants, like God, tol-

erate evils such as the Holocaust because life is only a fleeting reality -

the afterlife, or a reincarnated life, renders this question moot. As a

Humanist I disagree. The death of a child at the hands of a gun-bearing

adult is an abomination, not a necessary learning experience. The only

excuse I can offer for extraterrestrial indifference is some kind of flaw

in their apparent power, some very real vulnerability that might provide

them with an excuse to avoid moral responsibility the way our indolent

sunbather could avoid trying to save the drowning child because he, him-

self, might be unable to swim.

A few valid UFO cases contain accounts of healing, descriptions of

wounds healed, eyesight strengthened and so on, after UFO abductions or

encounters. However, these rare examples of healing raise more ethical

problems than they solve. If the occupants of UFOs _do_ have the power to

heal, why is it used so sparingly, so arbitrarily? Why save one swimmer

and let the others drown? A woman I've worked with and know well was ab-

ducted along with her older sister; each had had childhood abductions,

each had lived uneasily with her memories. Last spring the older sister

was murdered in a park, by an apparently deranged individual. The tragedy

had nothing to do with UFOs, but my friend said this to me: "I always

thought, somehow, they were looking out for us, watching over the people

they'd taken in these experiments. Now I know I'm no safer than anyone

else. They don't seem to care." And yet in one case I know about an abduct-

ee was apparently saved in a similar situation. The arbitrariness of it

all undermines any attempt to accept a Space Brother reading of the entire

phenomenon. Amorality is the term that comes most quickly to mind.

If the immediate emotional reactions to UFO abductions are usually

more negative than positive, and there is literally no sign of benign ex-

traterrestrial intervention in world affairs, there is still one more area

to examine, and it is extremely important. It is the long term psycholog-

ical aftereffects of UFO abductions experiences. Dr. Aphrodite Clamar, a

clinical psychologist with whom I have worked in many such investigations,

has stated that she feels almost every abductee she has dealt with has

been psychologically scarred by the experience. This is surely my opinion

also, and I believe that the psychological tests of abductees administered

by Dr. Elizabeth Slater, as well as the psychological histories taken

through Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City all provide sup-

port for this thesis. Though she points out that cause and effect ob-

viously cannot be established with certainty, Dr. Slater describes the

psychological profiles of the nine abductees she tested as resembling

those found with rape victims - a low self-esteem, a distrust of their

bodies, their physicality, their sexuality, and a hesitancy to trust oth-

ers. Not a pretty legacy from our would-be Space Brothers.

My case files include three instances in which individuals - all

males and apparently somewhat depressed to begin with - committed suicide

after what were described by their friends and family as UFO abduction ex-

periences. And there is more on this debit side of the ledger, including

what seems to have been an accident following a car-stopping incident and

abduction; the driver, the only surviving parent of four children, died

later of complications suffered in this encounter. Two female abductees

I've worked with either planned or carried out suicide attempts when they

were ten years old, and another recent attempt involves a frightened, des-

pondent fourteen-year-old girl.

No one who has had this experience regards it as an unmitigated

blessing. Some live in perpetual terror. Some have suffered nervous

breakdowns, and as a result of their experiences and the chemical and

shock treatments administered by baffled and incompetent doctors, are

living thoroughly damaged lives. I have seen disfiguring scars on the

bodies of abductees who have involuntarily been used in the UFO occupant's

"medical" procedures. Yet I have also seen abductees whose lives have been

undeniably broadened by their bizarre experiences; survivors who have man-

aged the human task of surmounting their traumas and gaining something

from them. The reports, again, are mixed, but the pain and suffering are

immense. Deaths, injuries, terrors and mental breakdowns must be weighed

against a philosophical broadening in many individuals, an awareness that

the universe is larger - and closer - than anyone had imagined. The cost,

of course, has been tremendous, and the gain due more to human resilience

than alien kindness.

But there is, I believe, an explanation for the apparently callous

and often destructive behavior of the aliens who perpetrate these tempor-

ary kidnappings of innocent men, women and children. One vivid example

should make the point. Two years ago a man in Minnesota whom I shall call

Earl wrote to me about his partially remembered UFO experiences. Eventual-

ly I visited him on his farm, and we began a series of hypnotic regres-

sions. He recalled a time years before when his wife had been helping him

harvest a crop of hay in a rather isolated field. She lay down to rest on

the wagon while Earl worked a few hundred yards away...but then he saw

three small UFOs fly in at tree-top level and hover above his sleeping

wife. One of them lowered to the ground as Earl put his tractor in gear

and raced to her side to protect her from whatever was happening. A normal-

looking blond man, speaking English, stepped from behind the clump of

trees where the UFO had landed and asked Earl to stop; "Everything is all

right," he said. "She won't be hurt." Earl ignored him and leaped off the

tractor, continuing on foot towards the wagon where his wife lay, surround-

ed now by small, gray-skinned figures. Earl suddenly found himself para-

lyzed and helpless. He stood there, unable to move, as the blond man con-

tinued speaking, assuring him that "everything is all right. Nothing will

happen to your mate." Earl watched in horror as his paralyzed wife was un-

dressed. A Long needle was pushed into her abdomen as she lay on a bed of

hay, crying out at the pain, but unable to resist. Skin and hair samples

were taken, and a thin probe was inserted into her vagina. Still frozen in

place, Earl cursed and raged, and the blond man seemed genuinely surprised

by his reaction. "We _want_ you to see this," he said. "We're not hurting

your mate. She'll be fine. Why are you upset? We're not hurting her..."

The scene ended shortly thereafter, and the couple returned home,

aware of a period of missing time, but with no memories of the UFO en-

counter. In the days and weeks after this event, Earl's wife began suf-

fering from nightmares, clawing in her sleep at the area near the bridge

of her nose, between her eyes, and screaming for them to "take it out,

it's hurting." She dug deep gouges in her forehead while the nightmares

continued unabated. Other symptoms of her terror appeared, half-understood

recollections of the events in the hay field. Eventually she had to be hos-

pitalized, suffering from a severe nervous breakdown. She lives at home

now, tranquilized and sadly no longer herself.

This story is but one of many which I could present to illustrate a

central point about UFO occupants and their relation to their human sub-

jects: they simply appear unable for the most part to understand us, our

feelings, our terrors, our love for one another. They seem psychologically

blind to basic human emotions. In my book _Intruders_ I recounted case af-

ter case in which women were artificially inseminated or endured ova-

retrieval operations, but whose reactions of rage or terror seemed surpris-

ing to their captors. These impassive UFO occupants seem as remote from

our "peculiar" human emotions as they are from our obviously differing

anatomy; perhaps more so. And their basic lack of understanding provides

us with a kind of excuse for their callous behavior.

It seems to me that we are left with but two possibilities, neither

of which is very attractive. If the UFO occupants actually do understand

us and can empathize with our needs and emotions, then they are morally

deficient -- even cruel in their single-minded selfishness. Not malevolent

or deliberately evil, but as callous as the sunbather who watches the

child drown in the surf. At some point, amoral behavior becomes immoral

behavior. But if these same alien beings _simply do not understand our

feelings_, then they have an excuse of sorts for their behavior. And the

evidence suggest they really may not know what disasters they sometimes

cause. A female abductee recently wrote me a letter which goes in part:

I was watching a show about animals, because I love

animals. I don't know if it was _Wild Kingdom_ or some

_National Geographic_ show, but these scientists were

tracking some polar bears. They had all kinds of weird

looking equipment and were using a white board which

rendered them invisible in the snow to the bears. As I

watched I got a real sick feeling in the pit of my stom-

ach. These scientists were dressed in identical white

suits, lured the bears closer, and drugged the big one

with the cubs. The whole time they were tagging her they

were taking blood samples, measuring fat, checking eyes,

mouth, etc. And whenever the bear struggled they would pet

her, talk to her, tell her everything was going to be

fine. The cubs stayed close. The scientists placed a de-

vice on her that would track her for so many years. They

even marked her with a special paint that could be spotted

from the air. Then when they were through with her they

ran and hid behind the big screen so that when she woke up

she wouldn't see them. She got up, looked around, and ran

so fast her cubs could hardly keep up. Imagine how she

must have felt the other times when they followed her in a

helicopter. She could run, but with that paint and homing

device she could never hide! I think all we are is a bunch

of animals to these beings. Some little experiment that

has been ongoing for who knows how long. I don't like the

idea of being something's lab animal.

I thought about her letter, her understanding of the animal's plight

and the traumas inflicted by the scientists upon the bear and its cubs.

These zoologists - as well as the occupants of UFO's, one hopes - are all

acting from decent, scientific motives. And yet in both cases pain is in-

flicted, paralysis is imposed, and traumatic terror is the result. Some

animals might abandon their cubs after such an experience or die of a mis-

measured dose of a tranquilizing drug or even die from pure shock, just as

some humans, like Earl's poor wife, may never recover from the horror of

their experience. Sad though this alternative seems, it is easier for me

to believe that the occupants of UFOs simply do not understand what they

are doing to us, what traumas they are inflicting, than to believe they do

know and are merely indifferent to human suffering.

I have talked to many people who will not give up on the benign

Space Brother reading of these cases, no matter what. At the outset I said

that our quasi-religious hopes die slowly. And so, despite massive negat-

ive evidence, there are still many people who cling to the idea that some-

how, some way there may be _two_ alien groups, one bad and one good. The

bad group, according to this theory, does the abducting and experimenting

while the good group really loves and understands us. Sometimes a kind of

sub rosa Aryan racism can be detected beneath these hopes, in that the

"grays," as they have been called, are the bad aliens, while the more at-

tractive "blonds" are good. In my twelve years of investigation, however,

the more human-seeming aliens, whenever they are reported (as in the cases

of Earl and his wife or the Travis Walton abduction), seem to be operating

as a team right along with the so-called "grays," participating in abduct-

ions-as-usual. There is not a shred of evidence that I know of supporting

this simple-minded good-guys, bad-guys dichotomy - but there is plenty of

evidence that this kind of wishful thinking is an all too common psycholog-

ical habit.

The Contactee phenomenon, discounted by almost all serious investi-

gators, represents the triumph of hope against reality, of need against

evidence. The abduction cases I've studied over the years can be defined

as being, in effect, "all evidence and no ideology," while the contactee

cults are essentially the opposite. Contactee messages, as passed on

through helpful "channels," reduce themselves generally to soft entreaties

to love one another, to make peace, not war, and to take care of our plan-

et's precarious ecology - in other words, the kind of cliche' even people

like Reagan and Gorbachev routinely utter in their formal speeches. (This

kind of nebulous message, it should be said, is sometimes also reported in

valid UFO abduction cases. What we really need, one abductee said to me,

is actual alien help in solving our problems, not just another newspaper

editorial pointing them out.) In short, there is no reason to assume that

any benign group of aliens anywhere has yet done anything truly helpful to

our planet. Such evidence simply does not exist.

The final difficulty in the cultist view of a "good alien - bad

alien duality" lies in the age-old problem of evil. If the bad aliens are

hurting us by their abductions, why don't the good aliens prevent it? For

centuries we've asked ourselves, if God is omnipotent, how can he permit,

say, the torture of children? Many of us felt that since no answer consist-

ent with the idea of God's omnipotence could satisfy us, there was some-

thing seriously wrong with the theology. And so it is with this kind of

alien theology, apart from the fact that there is no credible evidence of

any kind indicating a struggle between rival alien groups. If there are

various groups of aliens from different places of origin in the Universe,

they are apparently all co-operatively doing the same thing to us, the hu-

man race - and I for one think that what they're doing is, in the short

term at least, immensely destructive.

Once again we are back to the only two viable alternatives. Either

the UFO occupants have not grasped the psychological toll they are taking

in these abductions and genetic experiments because they really do not

understand human psychology, _or_ they must be viewed as a callous, indif-

ferent, amoral race bent solely upon gratifying its own scientific needs

at whatever the cost to us, the victims. The question of which alternative

is true cannot be presently answered. There is evidence to support both

interpretations, but I, for one, wish to choose the former.

The "Message of Cydonia":

First Communication from an Extraterrestrial Civilization?

Abstract

In 1976 an unmanned NASA Viking spacecraft successfully

photographed the surface of the planet Mars. In the subsequent

13 years, a mystery has loomed . . . a mile-long, 1500-ft high

humanoid "face" discovered in a northern Martian desert called

"Cydonia." Initially dismissed by NASA as "a trick of light and

shadow," new analysis presented here reveals a far more complex

situation, and a far more significant conclusion:

The "face" and its surrounding "enigmatic landforms" appear

to be a carefully layed out, highly-sophisticated, redundantly

encoded "mathematical and geometric CETI message" on the Martian

landscape -- in the tradition of century-old proposals by Gauss,

Lockyer, et al..

This paper presents the evidence whereby the authors have

reached this "radical conclusion." We -- one of us a former NASA

consultant, the other a geomorphologist -- detail the extensive

geodedic and mathematical analysis of "the Face" we have

conducted over the past several years: specifically, its

geometric relationship to other, equally enigmatic objects in the

immediate vicinity. This evidence includes multiple appearances

of two specific mathematical constants: "e" and "pi," derived by

angular measurement of the placement of key morphological objects

around the "face" and the discovery of redundant angles and

derived constants from that placement. We have also discovered

the two constants -- "e" and "pi" -- "coded" in the geodedic

siting latitude of the "complex" on the planet.

It is this multiple, diversified, but converging geodedic,

geometric and mathematical evidence that, in the authors'

opinion, now robustly supports the "radical conclusion" presented

above.

The geometry and mathematical constants we have discovered

at Cydonia appear to be a highly-specific communication of

"embedded tetrahedral geometry." It's apparent purpose: the

prediction of a specific geodedic latitude -- 19.5 degrees N. and

S. -- resulting from the location of the vertices of a

"circumscribed tetrahedran" rotated inside a planetary or stellar

sphere. This conclusion is reinforced by the geomorphological

observation of a major "tetrahedral pyramid" at Cydonia --

connected geometrically (by a 19.5-degree angle offset to the

local geodedic meridian) to equally obvious morphological

representations of "spheres" at Cydonia itself.

The purpose of all this appears to be to direct attention

towards "something occurring at these two specific planetary

latitudes." When examined by the authors, using published

geodedic planetary maps from NASA and U.S Geological Survey

sources, these latitudes are observed to be associated with a

hitherto unknown planetary and stellar energy phenomenon --

blatantly emerging at these specific latitudes -- on astronomical

objects all across the solar system, including the Sun. Further,

the appearance of these "energy outpourings" seems to be

modulated by the polarity of the planetary (or stellar) magnetic

dipole moment -- raising, in the author's minds, the possibility

that the "message" is attempting to direct us to a verifiable

astrophysical manifestation of a basic, "unified field,"

connecting planetary angular momentum, gravity, and

electromagnetism with surface energy release.

The possibility that "the message" is directing us to, not

merely energy transfer but energy generation, is also considered

in this paper. Several convergent observations of the outer

planets, most recently from Voyager 2, are presented to buttress

our contention that we may be looking at a new astrophysically-

significant form of energy. Evidence is also presented that some

manifestations of this energy may be altering the local

"gravitational space-time metric" -- consistant with current

theoretical interpretations of tetrahedral mathematics by

specialists, as "representative of higher-dimensional n-spaces."

The implications of these "real world" geophysical

manifestations of "unified field tetrahedral mathematics" --

specific, localized energy release on planetary surfaces,

apparently unrecognized until the "Cydonia tetrahedral

mathematics" were decoded by the authors -- are profound: ranging

from a possible breakthrough in the centuries-long search for a

Unified Field Theory connecting the four elemental forces of

Nature; to possible technological applications of this knowledge

-- including a new energy source, and possibly, ultimate control

of gravity itself.

We conclude by urging immediate verification of the "Cydonia

Message," via the 1992 unmanned Mars Observer spacecraft, as well

as detailed follow-up to our preliminary work presented here.

I hope so. Call me crazy, but I've chosen to believe that we weren't the only

intelligent life since I was a kid. I would love to find out during my lifetime

that it's true for sure and not just a "belief". I just hope that, if it's true,

we're not about to be taken advantage of by either other intelligent life or

by our government. Imprisonment of "dissentors" (whatever it exactly means)

would be a sad thing for our country to stoop to. (Though it wouldn't be the

first time we picked on a group and took away their rights; ie: orientals during

a certain world war.)

I can't help but hope that Star Trek: the new generation is a ploy to get us

used to "their" ideas and philosophy. If there really has been a cover-up

since Kennedy and before, then it's not impossible. Wouldn't it be nice?

Of course, we can't dare to trust anyone for a very long time after we've met

them. If they're advanced enough to get here, they could do us some serious

damage.

Greetings. Just as the heading says, I am looking for writers/critics to

contribute to Ink Nineteen, a progressive culture (for lack of a better

pair of words) magazine stationed in Central Florida, USA.

I have been a UsePhreak for some time now, and have noticed that the writing

talent available is enormous; yet only people with access to large computer

systems can enjoy it. Therefore, I am opening Ink Nineteen to eContributions,

a freshly-coined term with alarming Earth-shaking implications.
