Place: Starfleet Mars Dockyard

Starfleet Command orders a newly completed design for a new class
of starship be constructed for launching in two years. The
blueprints describe the external and internal structure of the
Zenith class starship. The name of the starship is the USS
Odysseus, NCC-9000.

Date: November 2, 2689

Some revisions are made in the design blueprints, and the class
designation is changed to the Odysseus class, and the starship in
question is renamed the USS Enterprise, and a new hull registry is
assigned to it, the NCC-1701-H Registry.

Date: September 21, 2691

After a little over two years of revising and testing the prototype
of the first Odysseus class starship, the USS Enterprise, registry
NCC-1701-H, is finally declared by Starfleet Headquarters to be
spaceworthy. The Enterprise is sent with a temporary skeleton crew
to Earth (Sol III on intergalactic starchart maps) to be
commissioned and assigned a permanent crew.

Date: April 7, 2692

After slightly over half a standard year of training and final
tests, Starfleet finally commissioned and launched the new starship
on her maiden voyage. A summary of the NCC-1701-H starship's
technical details was published for public release as follows:

(Reprinted with permission from the United Federation Broadcasting
Network)

Starfleet Headquarters is proud to announce a new flagship, the
ultimate in starship design today. We are pleased to announce the
long-awaited Launching Ceremony of the newest and most advanced
StarShip to take its place in the famed Enterprise line, as well
as our most advanced starship in all of Starfleet's entire history
of space travel.

The most innovative aspect of the Enterprise, registry NCC-1701-H,
are the state-of-the-art Quinthium Transwarp engines. Truly, no
other, previous or present engine technology has given Starfllet
such an oppurtunity to further explore the unknown portions of our
Universe, and possibly to other places as well. So with pride, we
have named it the Odysseus class, in honor of Odysseus, the ancient
Greek voyager. Like Odysseus did, we hope to go on many more new
and strange missions.

The Enterprise is now even more suited to the task of long missions
then any other ship ever was. It is practically a mini-world unto
itself, carrying hundreds of crewmembers and their immediate
families (if they took any.) Like earlier models, the Enterprise
can divide into two independent sections when the situation
warrants it.

The quinthium crystals used in the six highly miniaturized
transwarp drives (possible thanks to new breakthroughs in
bioelectronic technologh), allows the Enterprise to travel even
faster then before, at the amazing factor of to the twentieth
power!

Three of the drives are for normal use, they are the primary drives
of the Enterprise starship. The three other drives are intended
for backup purposes in case one or all of the primary drives
malfunction or go off-line. Because of the potential of the
Enterprise's fanstatic engines, Starfleet has appropriately called
the technology behind them Parawarp Engines. (Paramount Warp).

The uniforms that the crewmembers will wear have been totally
redesigned to take advantage of the latest in miniaturization
technology. They possess abilities never before dreamed of or
introduced previously. The uniforms have multipurpose utility
belts which both hold useful materials and control various unifrom
functions, either manually or through the new NEUROCOMMAND system.
Among the capacities of each uniform include:

o Color changing; this can be accomplished anywhere on the surface
of the uniform. This function can be useful for such purposes as
camouflaging or distress signals or as readout of results from the
uniform's internal tricorder system. This function can be
performed manually or through the NEUROCOMMAND method.

o Personal shield system: This feature can be used in a variety of
ways, such as being used as a protective envelope in a hostile
environment, or as the perfect outer=space suit when it is
necessary to perform tasks extraship (in space, outside any space-
going ship or otherwise.) The utility belt can automatically
provide the necessary atmosphere for the wearer to survive in. May
be either manually controlled or neurocommanded.

o Internal Tricorder System: This function serves a variety of
purposes. It is completely automatic, and interwoven into the very
fabric of the uniform itself, making the uniform's entire surface
into a large sensor network. The tricorder can be used to gather
information and give results. It is also an excllent recorder, and
will store and retrive audiovisual data (as well as non-
audiovisual). This makes it a useful device to gather evidence.
Aain, this function can be called up either manually or by
neurocommand. Output is either provided through holoimages and/or
sound, color patterns on the uniform itself, or by telepathic
projection methods.

o Total Communications: The uniform has the ability to both act as
a translator/interpreter and communications system. Also may be
commanded manually or neurally. It can transmit any type of
information, either in conjenction with the uniform's tricorder
system or not, and can communicate in three major ways; through
audio means, visual signals (in any frequency or spectrum) or
finally, through a limited telepathic system. The telepathic
system works with either natural or non-natural telepaths. Its
primary function is to allow the exchange of information and ideas,
it has no ability to allow the wearer to control another person,
except perhaps if the wearer is a very strong telepath. It can
only comunicate with others wearing the same uniform or having
access to materials allowing the other to recieve it. The
communications system can be shut off at willand activated at will.

It ma allow communication with a being not having access to
telepathic technology, but this probably would only work in close
or physical contact.

o For unusual situations, there are two tiny phaser emiters at the
front and back sides of the shoulders (four altogether). However,
the uniform's outfit includes a standard hand phaser. The phaser
now has the ability to make targets helpless to move without
placing them in a state of unconsciousness. This is called the
Restrain setting. There are two Resrain settings, one to cause
pain and one not to. The pain setting can be in three degrees,
Mild, Medium, Severe. Both shoulder (can be manually or neurally
commanded) phaser and the Mark 20 hand phaser have the same
abilities.

o The utility belt will only open or operate under the command of
the wearer. One of the uniform's abilities is to act as a
bandage. If the wearer is injured, the uniform can prevent
bleeding thanks to a special underlayer. Also, when the uniform
is itself damaged, it draws from a supply in the belt and actually
repairs itself!

o Temperature control - interwoven in the uniform is a controllable
thermometer so that the wearer is at the most comfortable
temperature possib.e It adjusts or can be adjusts when the
personal shield is activated.

o The utility belt has small powered directors to allow the wearer
to move more easily in a situation where no gravity is present, or
there is too little gravit. This can come in useful. For example,
if a wearer is suddenly thrown, (even in normal gravity), the
directors can be used to minimize injury (especially in conjunction
with the shielding). Another example is when working in outer-
space or liquid environments where movement is restricted.

o Nutri-tablets: Contained in the utility belt are nutri-tablets,
either can be chewed or swalowed. They provide all the necessary
nutrients when standard meals are unavilable or insufficient.
Shaped like narrow cigarettes (easier to grasp), there are two
hundred of them.

o Standard survival and other useful tools particuliar to the
wearer's duties and skills complete the outfit.

Bioelectronic technolog makes up better than 70 percent of the
Enterprise, adding even more speed to the shipboard computers and
other functions. A new weapon has been added to complement the
usual phaser banks and photon torpedoes. They are called Novablast
bombs. You can imagine what they must be like from the name. For
short, we call them nova bombs. (Nova grenades, like photon
grenades, are also available). Considerably more impressive in
their explosions and resulting consequences, he nova bombs and
grenades are more appropriate for heavy battle, war situations and
where more than the usual amount of force is needed. Nova beams
are available, but they require full use of all six drives to
provide the ncessary energy, so are a last resort, as they cause
quite a power drain.

There are now turbolifts to all major areas, including transporter
sections, and each of these areas has three turbolifts. The third
lift has an isolated power supply and is meant for emergency use
only.

Due to the size of the Enterprise and the amount of crewmembers and
civilians, a whole deck was set aside for medical use, called the
Hospital Deck. This is necessary, and each of the ship's two
sections has one (in case of separation). After all, there are
approximately 2500 people altogether onboard at the most!

The cargo-bay area now has four shuttlecraft, which, unlike
previous models, have a far more applealing look to them.
Streamlined and for missions where transporters cannot be used or
for some other reason, the first three are the primary shuttlecraft
and the last one for emergency use.

As for the main crew of this vessel, once again, the cream of
Starfleet's crop of the brightest officers are in command of the
cherised Enterprise:

CAPTAIN LAURA KATHERINE TIMBERMAN: Born on the planet Mars on
October 5, 2665, Captain Timberman is a surprising young candidate
for the command of the Enterprise at the age of twenty-six. Thanks
to her early entrance into Starfleet's new Junior Academy program
at the age of twelve, Captain Timberman was able to advance her
career far more quickly then previous generations of Starfleet
officers ever could dream of. After she was born in Mars City, her
parents moved to San Fransico when she turned around three,
probably explaining her early interest in space. Recently promoted
from the rank of Commander on the starship USS Frankfurt, Captain
Timberman is a small, attractive rusty-haired woman with startling
gray eyes. There is a rumor floating around that Captain Timberman
has some biological connection with the late Captain James T. Kirk,
or possibly his nephew. Starfleet neither denies or supports this
rumor and has refrained from comment. The captain herself and her
family and friends have nothing to say about the matter.

COMMANDER YENEZ BRALBAN: Commander Bralban is a three hundred year
old native of the world Truda (by our standards, in her middle
thirties to early forties). Like any normal Trudan, Commander
Bralban barely reaches four feet in height. She has a massive body
thought, due to the fact that Truda is such a superheavy body,
nearly the size of Jupiter. Her skin is a variant of navy blue,
her eyes are light green and her hair is black. She also serves
as the science officer. See the Truda file appended below.

LT. COMMANDER FRANKLIN DELANO WILLIAMS - a thirty-year old male
hybrid from Earth, a Human/Vulcan mix. Howver, unlike the famous
Vulcan Mr. Spock, Mr. Williams looks quite human. He does share
the normal Vulcan massive strength and is a huge towering red-
headed man with brown eyes. His Vulcan heritage may also have
given him an unusal ability for hunches or the feeling of the
situation or what's to come, but if it did, or if he has such a
talent, Starfleet has not bothered to verify it, as Mr. Williams
rarely exhibits any such behavior except perhaps in stressful or
unusual situations. Normally, Mr. Williams serves as the Chief
Engineer, although he may also be called on to give advice, as he
has demonstrated an unusal knack to understand complex situations,
so he doubles as a junior Ship's Counselor whenever necesary

LT. KEVIN KESH - A Klingon/Human hybrid direct from the Klingon
Home World (son of a Human Ambassador and Klingon scientist), Lt.
Kesh is a twenty-four year old man who acts as the Navigations and
Weapons officer. Lt. Kesh plans on commanding his own starship one
day. Sometimes this aspiration can make him seems a little foolish
at times.

LT. T'SIEN: A Vulcan female officer, she is the Chief Medical
Officer To The Bridge and Aulixary crews, and also serves as a
director of the hospital decks. She is 55 years old, young for a
Vulcan. She is bonded to Lt. Sidel, the Vulcan helm officerr.

LT. SIDEL - A 61 year old Vulcan, his most striking feature is his
unusal yellow=gold hair, which he wears somewhat longer then
normal. Probably Vulcan, under the influence of Huams for so long
is starting to relax some social strictures.

LT. COMMANDER DANIEL M. KIRK - Communications and counselor, Lt.
Cmdr. Dan Kirk is the great-grandson of Peter Kirk, nephew of the
late James T. Kirk. Black-haired and blue of eye, he is a young
and witty officer who shows great promise. Now 22, he is another
graduate of Starfleet's Junior program.

LT. YOLANDA CHING - Of Spanish/Chinese ancestry, Lt. Ching is a
20 year old woman from Mexico City, Earth, and is the Enterprise
Chief Security Officer.

ENSIGN KAFEN ARADOZ - A young Andorian female who runs the
Transporter.

LT. TAYLOR PARKWEST - The Entertainment and Recreation Officer,
usally hanging around 10-Forward. An extremely attractive blond
haired man with blue eyes, he is a native of starbase 14. His
parents abandoned him at around the age of five, which he is
sometimes bitter about, on the starbase, when they were passing
through. He is also an xenobiologist, which adds some usefulness.

The TRUDA System

=====================================================

At the farthest side of the Andromeda Galaxy is an ancient Jupiter-
sized world called Truda, the fifth of eleven planets. Orbiting
a massive orange sun, Truda takes about a century to rotate it, so
their seasons are much longer. The typical Trudan native is a
short stocky fellow, whose skin color varies from very light blue
to dark violet, with shades of blue and purple in between. Their
limbs follow the UFP five per limb, two arms and two legs, with
five digits each. However, Trudans have semi-floppy ears, somewhat
pointed (someting of upside-down Vulcan ears?), which is their most
striking feature. Although like Vulcans, they are biologically
compatible with us, no offspring can be produced without genetic
surgeons to intervene. Tudans rarely exceed four feet, and have
a 900 year lifespan, so a 300 year old Trudan is comparable to our
mid 30-earl 40's. (Human). Although Trudans have been spacefarers
for about 20,000 years, because they lacked the diversity of the
collected intelligences of the Federation, it took them far longer
to develop to the point where their technology matches that of the
Federation. It was not until around 2600 that the Federation
encountered a Trudan scoutship exploring space near the Federation
border, since they live so far away. The Trudans held off joining
the Federation for fifteen years so they could have time to absorb
and study the history and knowledge of the entire Federation. They
were unsure, but signed on in 2616, and since then have been firm
supporters and members.

Truda has been far more civilized for far longer then most
Federation worlds. The last war they had was when the great ice
of the Ice Age advanced for the third time on Earth. However,
Truda is usually by nature, a civil world, despite their physical
makeup. It is difficult to get a Trudan angry, since they have
much patience. Trudans have a love for science and peace, but they
can be quite courageous when they need to be, but of course, just
like Humans, Trudans react differently to different situations, and
come in all kinds of personalities. Their hair and eyes are as
varied in color as Humans, usually purple, dark-brown, black, blue,
deep copper, violet, and silver. Trudan blood is sor of coppery,
although it is actually iron-based. Trudans are NOT carbonp-based
life forms though. Thy are silicon, but suprisingly enough, are
quite soft and flexible.
