The Fae
:Intro
The Fae, as presented herein, are intended to draw in part from
fictional sources, to act as a model for a race both similar and alien
to the humanoids within the normal play of the Mystic Earth. Their
motivatoins, nature and portrayal make them best used for non-player
characters. Our main concern here are with the High Fae, sometimes
called the Sidhe or the Tuath De Nanon, the nobles who rule the lands of
the Fae outside the Mystic Earth.

:Appearances
The High Fae are humanoid, ranging in height from 5'6 to 7'6, and
have builds that may include Thin, Athletic, Average and Husky (But
never obese!).
They have very limited body hair, primarily upon the face/head and
the genitilia areas. It ranges in color from Platinum, Silver, Blonde,
Gold, Sandy, copper (and rarely Auburn), Black, Dark Blue-black. Their
hair does not grey or show other signs of aging or change in that way,
and grows slowly compared to that of humans.
Their eyes fill the human range and more, including Violets,
Sea-Greens and Vivid Blues.
Their skin tones are pale, but with some level of variety, from an
almost death-like white up to a light human flesh tone. It does not
callouse easily, taking years to develop such, and does not blemish.
Their ears are rounded, not pointed like elves.
:Stats
The High Fae race have certain Racial Advantages over some of the other
races when it comes to their statistical calculations:
15 - 40 Spirit Range
10 - 35 Coordination Range
10 - 35 Mind Range
5 - 20 BODY
Double Normal Health at start
Automatic 2 ranks in Physical Fitness
Automatic 1 rank in Cosmetics
Automatic 1 rank in Contortion
:Abilities
The High Fae are virtually immortal, but do not age in appearance
beyond the human equivilant of 20. They take no modifiers to their
statistics based upon their age like other long-lived races.
They Possess Natural Nightvision within 90', and Ethereal sight
within 120'. They have an expanded Lower Level Hearing range, which
explains their disdain for human places with their cconstantly
low-buzzing machines .
Their skin is more sensative than that of humans, so they avoid rough
materials, preferring soft and gentle ones in their clothing. They are
also, because they possess more nerve endings, more sensative to
physical pleasure and to pain.
They heal at the same rate as humans, but never scar, and their
bodies will regrow lost body parts along the way, including severed
limbs and the like.
The High Fae do not sleep like humans do, they cannot use magics
associated with the plane of dreams since they cannot enter such or
influence it.
All High Fae begin with knowing two languages, that of Courtspeech
and that of Commontongue (the first used between the High Fae
themselves, the second used when communicating with the lesser Fae).
The High Fae are immune to all diseases, save those specific of their
race (the worst being the one called 'The Wasting', which is almost
always fatal).
The High Fae have their own magic system, outlined elsewhere. They do
not take humans and shortlived peoples as students, but have on occasion
take a rare Elven student (Or Changeling).
:Culture
The culture of the Fae is difficult to follow, for they are a
secretive people, seeped in tradition and laws that humans cannot fully
fathom. This section deals with human impressions of them and their
culture and their interracction with humans.
They have a heirarchial system of goverment, which only the High Fae
participate in. Changelings and Low Fae are required simply to obey
without question the orders of the High Fae (All High Fae are of the
Noble Class) and the High Fae avoid abusing their powers too often. The
same is true of their human servants within the Lands of Faerie. To fail
to obey is to suffer a judgement, which tends to be swift and without
mercy as humans understand it.
A single Fae rules the people at a time, and he or she is given he
title of King or Queen. They may bring with them one consort to serve as
their Opposite upon the throne, to aide in judgements etc, but the
consort MUST be a High Fae. The Post lasts for 7 "years" and court is
held at the estate of the Fae who rules (Each High Fae maintains an
estate as their home). At the end of that period there is the
Challenging, a game that decides succession to the post with its
benefits and responsibilities. The game differs, but has at times
included such things as a Riddle Contest, a Magic Duel, a Puzzle Solving
and once even a foot race. The Fae who is stepping down sets the contest
and all within the Fae people that wish to try for the post can be
involved, but the Fae stepping down cannot join in the game (though they
may act as judge for the contest). Once in a while champions are used,
and it has been said on occasion human servants have been used for such.
The Fae have certain laws and edicts that date back in time far
before man walked upon the Mystic Earth. Among these are the laws that
prevent a High Fae from slaying another, directly or indirectly. This is
because the High Fae are slow to produce offspring, and a birth is an
event celebrated by all the Fae when it occurs (They happen at best one
per century among the entire race).
No Fae ruler may pass a law or rule or judgement that endangers the
existance of the Fae - this is where their power ends. They may not send
a High Fae by demand to a task that would bring certain death. They may
on each High Fae place a single major errand or mission during their
reign, and after that can impose no more upon that Fae. They may ask the
prescence of any Fae to attend within the Court, but not for more than a
full life of the Moon (Lunar Month). They may not demand that a High Fae
give up property specifically, save as a judgement, and cannot strip a
High Fae of their Authority over the lesser Fae and servants.
The Sitting ruler DOES wear the crown of authority, a small silver
device, almost a tierra, of great and ancient power. With this they may
strip any Fae of their Magics for the rest of their term of office,
communicate to ANY of the Fae mentally no matter distance or dimension,
and to move anywhere within the Lands of Faerie instantly by thought.
None but the rightful ruler may wear the crown or control its abilities,
and it is semi-sentient, said to possess a tiny bit of the life force of
the very first ruler who put the system in place and made the crown.
Those that are not fae must also follow certain laws. To eat while
in the Fair Lands is to have time pass for thee elsewhere - a single
meal might cost a year in time when one returns to the Mystic Earth.
Also too is the rule of gifts - to accept a gift or a favor asked for is
to owe a gift or favor of equal value. If unable to repay it then the
non-Fae must pay in servitude within the court - and time will pass for
them in the Mystic Earth while in the court but no aging will happen to
them while within the Land of the Fair. The Servitude will last for
seven Fae "years".
Because time passes differently for the Fae then for men and others
their concepts of reality are quite different. They understand worlds
beyond human passage and know more of the nature of the universe. They
pass from place to place by the use of the Fae-Gates, entrances and
roads of passage thru the Fair Lands to The Mystic Earth and other
places. These are made of high magic enchantments that take years to
form and are nearly indestructable when finished.
From this comes the legends of exactly where Faerie is in
comparison to the Mystic Earth:
"It is as close as the Harvest moon in the Evening sky,
as Distant as a dream on wakening;
Near as a Rainbow,
and so remote you could walk for ever and never reach it.
Is it Far?
No, Not Far."
Mortals cannot see Fae Gates, even with Ethereal Sight, without a
spell designed to lift the glamour that hides them from prying eyes. The
Fae can see thru the Glamour without effort.
:Philosophy_&_Attitudes
The Fae are not human, they are not bound by human motives or ways,
they are as alien to man as man is to a tree. They dress in clothing
that may appear to be like that of mankind's past, but will declare that
it is proper garb for their folk that mankind mimiced in their past
(often identified of being from anywhere between Early Middle Ages
Europe to the Cavalier Period of Europe).
They will usually carry not devices of iron or steel or such ferrous
metals, for such is not welcome in the Fair Lands and is outlawed there
(and will not pass thru a Faerie Gate). Silver on the other hand is
commonly worked and used in ways that are not conceivable by mankind,
Gold is less used save for coinage.
They will shun modern machines, and will never stoop to learning
human technologies like Electronics and such, often complaining about
the destruction such things do to the mortal world.
The Fae have no Gods or forms of worship, and they will avoid such
philosophy discussions. Despite this they are in their own right an
ethical people, within their own land and rules. They kill only when
necessary (But often enjoy sporting combat), tend to hide themselves
from the mundane humans entirely in this day and age, and believe in
payment of their debts among themselves and the mages of the Mystic
Earth.
They are rather arrogant and feel themselves experts in understanding
the lot and nature of humans, and will be presumptious. They speak in
court styled speech, and expect to be addressed in like or will grow
angry. They treat Elves more highly then men, but have a respect for
mages of any race more than the members of that race (save those whoose
magics are based on human-like technology).
Fae often collect things of beauty for their estates, and often
venture to human lands to obtain such for their collections. They will
think nothing of stealing that which they admire if it cannot be bought
or received as a gift, but will often leave behind a trade for such so
long as there were no devices or forces that endangered their lives when
they took it.
The Fae are promiscious, and are not cross-fertile with humans (but
are with Elves) or other mortal races. They consider sexuality on many
levels, from just pleasure, to sharing, to binding.... a Fae will have
many partners in their life, but a fae would NEVER sell their services
(though on occasion they will leave a trinket after an interesting
enough entertainment from passion). A Fae may have many consorts, and
they tend towards bisexuality because of a love for variety.
The Fae enjoy music, Dance and drink as well, but will avoid human
recreational drugs and music that is mechanical in source. They often
lose themselves in the moment's passion, to ease the boredom and apathy
that centuries of life can generate. Some also enjoy the playing of
pranks upon men and their like...
