Piers Anthony is a frustrating author. Here is someone who is capable of
producing good stuff, but (on the whole) doesn't. As you can see, he goes
series crazy. His best work tends to be either stand alone books (e.g.
"Macroscope") or the first book of the series ("On a Pale Horse" or "A
Spell for Chameleon"). The quality of a series generally goes down in
proportion to its length. Still, he produces the occasional gem that means
I can't completely write him off. Argh.
