 THE WAR GAMES.   Written by Malcolm Hulke and Terrance Dicks.   10 episodes
                  19th April - 21st June 1969.
                 
 COMPANIONS:- Jamie and Zoe.

   The TARDIS lands in what appears to be France during the First World War.
 However, emerging from a strange mist the TARDIS crew find themselves in
 ancient times, in the midst of a Roman advance.
   The travellers are actually on an alien planet which is split into many
 different time zones. The soldiers from Earth's different wars have been
 brought to the planet by The War Chief, a renegade Time Lord, to help
 The War Lord to assemble an army to conquer the Galaxy. The War Chief
 recognises the Doctor and offers an alliance but the Doctor seizes control
 of the alien HQ and sends for the Time Lords.
   The War Chief is killed by the guards of The War Lord, who in turn is
 executed by the Time Lords. The Doctor is placed on trial for his
 interference in the affairs of others and is sentenced to a change of
 appearance and exile on Earth. Jamie and Zoe are returned to their own
 time with no memory of anything other than their first encounter with the
 Doctor.
   This story marked the end of an era. The entire regular cast was changed
 and the whole style of the show also. The stories of the early seventies
 were to be a very different kettle of fish indeed.
