OUR HEART'S ARE STRONG, BUT THEY'RE NOT MADE OF WOOD
Our hearts are strong, but they're not made of wood;
Or tin; or plastic; rubber; or of steel!
Our hearts are fragile ... that's not understood,
Since most seem to believe that hearts can't feel.
Our hearts do feel and hear -- soft, gentle speech
Can tender make our hearts, which long for more.
Unkindness can put hurt hearts out of reach,
Their memories long lasting, to the core....
Our hearts, in paradise when love is true,
Can manage bruises from a little storm;
When winds of words blow harsh to mask the blue,
No hot remorse or love can make hearts warm.
Rash words, when driven, always drill some holes,
Right through our hearts -- our minds -- to stab our souls.
