THE UNDERWATER MENACE


 THE UNDERWATER MENACE.   Written by Geoffrey Orme.   4 episodes.
                          14th January - 7th February 1967.
                       
 COMPANIONS:- Ben, Polly and Jamie.

   The TARDIS materialises on a barren rock, surrounded by the sea. Upon
 leaving the ship, the crew are captured by the Atlanteans and taken down
 to the undersea world of Atlantis. The Atlanteans plan to sacrifice the
 travellers to the Goddess Amdo but they are released by a scientist called
 Zaroff. He has a plan to lift Atlantis from the sea bed by draining the
 sea into the core of the Earth. The Doctor realises that this plan will
 result in the planet splitting apart.
   Ben and Jamie meanwhile, have been sent to the mines and Polly has been
 ordered to undergo surgery to turn her into a fishworker, collecting food
 from the sea. The party escape and persuade the fishmen to revolt. Zaroff
 intends to put his plan into action within twelve hours but the Doctor
 accelerates the fission, breaking down the sea walls and drowning Zaroff.
