lives you're throwing away! Were not just machines.
Data (from command chair): FIRE!
[ Data's ship fires a photon barrage, and apparently
hits a fleeing Klingon Bird of Prey class ship ]
[ FOUR Federation Starships are shown, including the Enterprise,
Data's ship, a Stargazer type vessel, and one other which only
a small part of the saucer section is visible ]
...AND WILL PICARD'S PAST FINALLY CATCH UP WITH HIM?
[ Picard on the Enterprise bridge; Troi is assisting at a science
station, and O'Brien is serving as Tactical Officer; Picard stands,
Deanna turns abruptly, and Sela (Denise Crosby) in full Romulan garb

A *SAVAGE* KIDNAPING...
[ Picard on a planet, he is holding a knife;

[ Riker and Worf on the bridge, the interior of an alien ship is on
the main viewscreen; Three humanoid aliens can be seen, with some
rather impressive head ridges, these are the Tamarians ]
Riker (to viewscreen): You're holding our Captain.
I want him released.
...AND PICARD IS FORCED TO PLAY A DANGEROUS GAME OF SURVIVAL.
[ Picard stabs a large, glowing "dragon lizard" type creature
with an energized "power dagger"; An energy bolt throws him
back, and he drops the weapon ]
Picard (to unseen aliens): NOOO!!
[ The alien ship fires a focused green beam at an Enterprise
shuttle; The shuttle is hit, sending Worf and his female
co-pilot spiraling out of control ]
NOW THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY TO BRING HIM BACK ALIVE...

Geordi: It's going to take me at least a full day to do it.

[ Bev and Geordi in a cargo bay, with drums of hazardous materials.
The ship is rocked, and the containers are scattered ]
Riker: I think we should assume the worst,
that everyone on the bridge is dead.

hits a fleeing Klingon Bird of Prey class ship ]
[ FOUR Federation Starships are shown, including the Enterprise,
Data's ship, a Stargazer type vessel, and one other which only
a small part of the saucer section is visible ]
...AND WILL PICARD'S PAST FINALLY CATCH UP WITH HIM?
[ Picard on the Enterprise bridge; Troi is assisting at a science

rather impressive head ridges, these are the Tamarians ]
Riker (to viewscreen): You're holding our Captain.
I want him released.
...AND PICARD IS FORCED TO PLAY A DANGEROUS GAME OF SURVIVAL.
[ Picard stabs a large, glowing "dragon lizard" type creature
with an energized "power dagger"; An energy bolt throws him
back, and he drops the weapon ]
Picard (to unseen aliens): NOOO!!
[ The alien ship fires a focused green beam at an Enterprise
shuttle; The shuttle is hit, sending Worf and his female
co-pilot spiraling out of control ]
NOW THERE'S ONLY ONE WAY TO BRING HIM BACK ALIVE...
[ Geordi, Troi, and Riker in the conference lounge ]
Geordi: It's going to take me at least a full day to do it.
Troi: Captain Picard could be dead by then...
[ Back on the planet with Picard, the alien creature

LIFE SIGNS ARE FAILING!
[ A particulate cloud descends on the Enterprise as it moves
through a field of small asteroids orbiting a blue planet ]
[ In a crew cabin, Troi turns and looks astonished ]

Geordi: Primary power systems are going down.
[ The Enterprise fires an orange energy bolt from the
main deflector; an asteroid is hit and destroyed ]

[ On the main viewscreen, a small ship looking somewhat
like a Ferengi ShuttlePod suddenly explodes ]
[ Riker and Kamala together; they kiss ]
Kamala: You learn so quickly what stimulates a man.
...AND DETERMINED TO SATISFY FORBIDDEN DESIRES.
[ Picard talking privately with Kamala ]

at Ro; Other crewpersons walk by without seeing either of them ]
Romulan: Do not move.
[ Different scene: Ro and the Romulan are fighting; Ro hits him several
times and he collapses; Crew in the background pay no attention to them ]
Geordi: Ro!
[ Geordi walks in between Data and a crewman having a conversation ]

[ From a hilltop, Picard looks down upon "his" village ]

Picard: Am I a prisoner here?
...AND ANOTHER MAN'S SOUL.
[ Picard and Eline kiss ]
Picard: This is not my life!
DESTINED TO SPEND ETERNITY ON A DOOMED PLANET.
[ An *OLD* Picard enters instrument readings into a journal ]
[ A very aged Picard/Kamin speaking... ]

Worf: The Captain is under attack.
[ Beverly in Sickbay, the real Picard is convulsing;
Old Picard/Kamin looking very weak ]
Bev: I'm loosing him.

Riker: We've lost him.
...AND EMBARKS ON A MISSION OF NO RETURN.

a horse-drawn carriage passes before him ]
[ Riker speaking in the Enterprise conference room ]
Riker: I'm not willing to accept that he's dead and just leave it at that.
NOW, TO BRING HIM BACK ALIVE...
[ Troi, Riker, Geordi, and Bev in a cavern with glowing white beings ]
Riker: Oh my god...
...THE CREW MUST CROSS A CHILLING GATEWAY, INTO TERROR.
[ A glowing doorway opens with someone emerging from it ]
Troi: Data!!

Short version:
Data faces his own death and must journey to 19th century Earth
