JNUG Design: Ted Maiden with rework by Rod Harris

I fell in love with this course the moment I saw it. The background was the
key to a brillant idea. You immediately feel transported to Greece where you
will be rambling among the ruins. Ted had done a masterful job blending the
background, course and objects. I added about five additional to add a little
variety and to accomplish the crashing water onto the rocks at #18. The main
difference is the design philosphy of Ted and myself. He encourages the player
to score well by providing generous landing areas and and easy putting. I
on the other hand like to create a challenge to be overcome. This is the only
reason a rework was done. Again I would like to emphasis thank this is done
as a tribute and not because I felt the course was not good enough to begin
with. If you compare the two you will find basically the same layout with a
tighter shot. Putting has been made more difficult. Objects have been moved
to come into play or interfere with your shots. A new look was given to #7
with the seawall added behind the green. Also an additional green was added
to #6 and be careful you don't land on the wrong one as you will be forced
to putt.

Below are parts of Ted's original text file. Maybe through this you will be
able to find thought process behind this wonderful course.

PREMISE:

The builders of this course had to move tons of volcanic rock to make room
for some fairways and greens.  They did so in the midst of ancient ruins and
some old rock fences.  Sections of these fences can be seen occasionally.
With a smoking volcano and major ruins in the distance, your visit to this
Aegean setting should be a pleasant experience - one that will bring you back
again and again.

ABOUT THE COURSE:

The large rocks make the fairways seem more narrow than they really are.  But
this does not mean you can flail away with the driver.  To score well, you will
have to manage your attack and play a thinking man's game.  There are several
blind and semi-blind shots here.  Study the hole layout carefully.  This IS a
world-class layout that will have you hitting most of the clubs in your bag.

CREDITS:

Lee Ritze (Vialee)was the motivation of this design.  He more or less
challenged me to do a course on an archipelago or island setting.  Well,
Lee, this one is dedicated to you.  Let me know if you like it.  I built
it in three days - approximately 20 hours of work.

Maker indeed lived up to his name. I am astounded by not only the ingenuity
but speed in which he created this. Like his namesake the real one only took
six days to create this planet. I hope you enjoy this version and strongly
recommend you also obtain the original if you don't have it.

Enjoy, y'all.
