SEMSOG Bylaws, adopted by the Charter members 7/20/91
In an effort to provide a standard of excellence for the users and operators
of public electronic Bulletin Board Systems, the owner operators of seven
BBS mentioned elsewhere in these documents have come together and state the
following with one voice ...
A Bulletin Board System wishing to associate with the South Eastern Michigan
System Operators Group (hereafter referred to as SEMSOG), shall voluntarily
conform to the following requirements and standards of operation ...
1. SEMSOG members do not condone illegal activity, such as ...
A) Associated systems do not participate in the distribution of commercial
or preregistered shareware program files, Credit Card numbers, methods
of bypassing computer security systems, or telephone access codes.
2. SEMSOG members do not condone public vulgarity.
A) Associated systems that offer access to adult graphic files such as
.GIFS .MAC, .GL and other forms, other adult program material or adult
messaging areas will provide an age validation method requiring that a
user certify their age as 18 years or older before allowing access to
this material.
3. SEMSOG promotes the secure exchange of information and ideas among its
associated systems and users.
A) Associated systems will scan uploaded files for known virii prior to
release for general access by users.
B) Associated systems will provide an adequate means of validating new
callers.
C) Associated systems consider the information forming the user database
is private, and shall not in any case be distributed beyond the local
system.
4. SEMSOG membership is a fellowship.
A) Associated systems will remain in contact with the SEMSOG support system
for updates and news. And, if possible, configure for and join in with
a proposed networked message base with other SEMSOG systems.
B) Associated systems will maintain a current list of SEMSOG members, and
in an effort to promote the fellow member systems, make that list freely
available for display to callers. This list may perhaps take the form
of a bulletin, logon or logoff message of some sort, at the discretion
of the local SYSOP.
C) Associated systems shall have the right to promote themselves as such,
for the length of their association; have the right to add the SEMSOG
name and logo to their system as they see fit, so long as it is not used
or placed in a detrimental manner.
D) Associated systems will share among themselves knowledge of system
operation procedures to facilitate member systems in fulfilling the
purposes set forth in this Constitution.
5. SEMSOG membership is honor bound.
A) Associated systems found to be deviating significantly from the
Constitution guidelines will be subject to removal from membership by
vote of the SEMSOG Charter Members.
