Gin Rummy rules

THE DECK:                                  A regular deck of 52 cards (13   per suit) is used. The cards rank in  ascending order:                           A-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-J-Q-K            The four suits have equal value. Each card is worth its normal value   except face cards which are worth 10  points.                                                                     THE DEAL:                                  Each participant will receive 10 cards, dealt alternatingly.                The next card, known as the      "upcard", is then turned over onto thediscard pile.                                                               THE OBJECT:                                The object of the game is to formmatched sets of three or more cards.  A set can be:                           1) a 3 of a kind (6{,6},6])           2) a 4 of a kind (6[,6},6[,6])        3) 3+ cards of the same suit in          sequence (2},3},4})                                                         If a player is able to create    sets using all 10 of the cards in his hand, he achieves "gin".  If the      unmatched cards in the hand add up to less than 10 points, he may "knock".       Once either gin or knock are     reached, points are given out depend- ing on the value of the hands.                                              THE GIN:                                   When a player makes sets out of  the ten cards, he declares "gin" and  play stops.  He is given 25 points    plus the points of any unmatched cardsin his opponent@s hand. The opponent  earns nothing.                                                              THE KNOCK:                                When a player@s unmatched cards   total less than 10, he may opt to     "knock" on that amount. While he will earn NO bonus points as he does with  a "gin", he does get the points of anyunmatched cards in his opponent@s     hand.                                                                       THE UNDERKNOCK:                           If a player should knock and his  opponent@s unmatched cards add up to  less than the knock amount, the       opponent will receive 25 points plus  the difference.  The knocker receives nothing.                                                                    THE UPCARD:                                The first card turned over onto  the discard pile is the "upcard".     Alternating turns, one player may havefirst pick of this card. Should that  player desire the upcard, he picks it up and replaces it with something elsefrom his hand.                             Should the player decline to pickup the upcard, the opponent is given  the chance to do so.                                                        THE PLAY:                                  Alternatingly, a player will drawa card from either the deck or the    discard pile.  The player must then   pick a card to throw away, thus       making sure he has no more than 10    cards.  The throw away card is placed onto the discard pile face up.             After a card is thrown away, the player@s turn is over and it becomes  the opponent@s turn.                       During the player@s turn, he may elect to "gin" or "knock".  If he has picked up a card, he must discard at  the same time as declaring the gin or knock. This final discard is placed   face down on the discard pile to show the hand is over.                          Play will continue alternating   between the two players until one of  them is able to gin or knock OR until there are no more cards left in the   deck (in this case, the hand is over  without any result).                                                        THE SCORE:                                 If a player "gins", he get a     bonus of 25 points plus the value of  the opponent@s unmatched cards.  If a player "knocks", he receives the valueof the opponent@s unmatched cards lessthe amount of the knock. If the player"knocks" but the opponent@s unmatched cards have a value less than the knockvalue, the opponent gets the differ-  ence plus a bonus of 25 points.                                             THE SPECULATION:                           "Speculating" (also known as     laying off) occurs when the opponent  knocks (never during a "gin"). With   the "spec" the player can add matchingcards to the knocker@s groups.  For     Example 1:                              The knocker has the group 4},5},6}and the opponent has 3}                 Example 2:                              The knocker has the group 4},4[,4]and the opponent has 4{                 Example 3:                              The knocker has the group 6[,7[,8[and the opponent has 5[ and the 9[      Example 4:                              The knocker has the group J],Q],K]and the opponent has 9] and 10]            Cards "spec@d" are counted just  as normally matched cards. They are   denoted on the screen with an "s"     above the card.                            Through the menu, the speculationoption can be turned on/off. If the   knocking option is turned off, the    speculation option is automatically   turned off as well.                                                         THE BOX:                                   Each hand won by a player is     otherwise known as a "box" and may, ifthis option is chosen, give that play-er non-game points.  These points are added to the score AFTER the game is  over, thus they will be added into thetotal pointage history of the player  but will not affect the game in pro-  gress.                                                                      THE GAME:                                  The game is over when a player   has a score higher than the pre-set   game limit.                           ÿ
