Cribbage rules

THE DECK:                                  A regular deck of 52 cards (13   per suit) is used. The cards rank in  ascending order:                            A-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-J-Q-K           Each face card counts as 10.  Theace counts as 1.  The other cards havea count equal to their name value     (e.g., the 6 of clubs is worth 6).         All four suits have equal value.                                       THE DEAL:                                  Each participant will receive 6  cards, dealt alternating between the  two. From these 6 cards, each player  must select 2 cards to be given to the"crib". This will result in 3 four-   card hands (the two players and the   crib).  After the crib has received   its cards, a "starter" card is dealt  which is used by the three hands as a fifth card.                                                                 THE SCORE:                                 Points are scored both during theplay of the hand and in the "counting"of the hand which follows the end of  play. Following these rules is a list of the various occurances and card    combinations which give points.            The points found in the "crib"   are counted after the play and after  the points in both normal hands.  The points will go to one player in one   hand and the other player in the next.The player who will receive the pointsin the crib is said to "have the      crib".                                     Points are marked on a "CRIBBAGE BOARD" which has 121 holes for both   players (2 rows of 60 each with a     final "out"). Each player uses two    "pegs" to mark his score.  The score  is recorded by moving the hindward    peg ahead of the forward peg however  many points were scored.                                                    THE PLAY:                                  The person who does not have the crib starts the play by leading any   of the four cards in his hand.  A     running subtotal is kept of the count value of the played cards. The owner  of the crib will then respond with oneof his own cards.  Play will continue,alternating between the two partici-  pants.                                     Play will temporarily cease when the next player is unable to play a   card and still have the running total remain under or equal to 31. A "go"   point to given the opponent who must  then play any cards he may have until the total reaches 31 or until he also has no playable card.                      When the 31 limit is reached by  both players, a new count is started  at 0 and the play continues.                                                THE COUNT:                                 After the play, each player will look at his five cards (the four from his own hand plus the "starter" card) and determine how many points are     contained in it.                          The person who does not own the   crib will count his hand first.  If   that count moves the player past the  "out" mark, the game is over and he   wins.                                     If the opponent did not go out,   the crib owner can count his own cardsand possibly win.  If he has not won  after counting his own hand, he countsthe crib hand and awards himself with however many points are to be found   there.                                    If, after both players and crib   been counted and no one has gone out, another hand is dealt and played.
