MicroCook 1.96
MicroCook 1.96 <ASP> is a recipe management program for DOS,
but it works great in Windows 3.x and 95. It has very easy to use
pull-down menus and editors with full mouse support. With
MicroCook you can enter your own recipes, and save them to
multiple cookbook / database files. Changing of database is only
a few key strokes or mouse click away. You can also move or copy
selected recipes between the databases. The number of recipes is
only limited by disk space. During entering or import of recipes,
duplicate recipe name checking can be turned on as an option.
You can export and import recipes in a ASCII format for easy
e-mail transfer and BBS upload/download. Other importable ASCII
formats are Meal-Master, MasterCook and Edna's Cookbook. A built-
in ASCII editor with macros make editing of ASCII recipes in
other formats very easy. This editor is a part of a full file
manager where you also can view, copy, move, delete and rename
any files. The ASCII editor can also be used to edit or create
other files.
With the Disk search, you can search on any field in the
recipe, or the whole recipe. You can also search on two
ingredients at one time. The recipes found can be compiled into a
new index, or displayed one at the time. A very fast index search
can be used to search on recipe name or categories. Wild card
characters can be used in search.
Printing of recipes from the screen or index can be done on
(almost) any printer. The printed output can also be re-directed
to an ASCII disk file. This is a very clean format, and can be
used if you want to import the recipes into a word processor.
Multiple recipes can be tagged in the index listing for printing.
MicroCook is using overlays which mean that those parts of
the executable file that's not currently being used are loaded in
Extended (XMS) or Expanded (EMS) memory. If no XMS or EMS memory
is found, the disk is used as a swap file. This means that
there's more memory left in conventional memory for the core of
MicroCook, and for the index array with recipe names. There will
also be more memory left if you need to shell to DOS.
Included is also a graphical (VGA) screen saver which also
can used as a stand-alone screen saver. About 150 sample recipes
are included.
With the registered version you'll receive your personalized
serial number KEY file that will remove the "Please register"
message, plus put your name on the screen in MicroCook. If you
want to give MicroCook as a gift, please make sure that you
specify who's name should be in the KEY. The KEY file will also
be good for future updates and upgrades of MicroCook. Also
included with the registered copy are over 2,200 recipes, and a
database repair utility. You will also have the option to
purchase Mike's recipe collection with 3,317 recipes for an
additional $5.
The registration fee for MicroCook is currently $20.00, and
registration can be done either with check or money order through
mail, through SWREG on CompuServe, or with most major credit
cards through PsL (800#, fax, or e-mail).
